Sirach 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Non fare il male, perché il male non ti prenda.
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 Stai lontano dall’iniquità ed essa si allontanerà da te.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Figlio, non seminare nei solchi dell’ingiustizia per non raccoglierne sette volte tanto.
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Non domandare al Signore il potere né al re un posto di onore.
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Non farti giusto davanti al Signore né saggio davanti al re.
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Non cercare di divenire giudice se ti manca la forza di estirpare l’ingiustizia, perché temeresti di fronte al potente e getteresti una macchia sulla tua retta condotta.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 Non fare soprusi contro l’assemblea della città e non degradarti in mezzo al popolo.
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 Non ti impigliare due volte nel peccato, perché neppure di uno resterai impunito.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 Non dire: «Egli guarderà all’abbondanza dei miei doni, e quando farò l’offerta al Dio altissimo, egli l’accetterà».
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 Non essere incostante nella tua preghiera e non trascurare di fare elemosina.
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Non deridere un uomo dall’animo amareggiato, perché c’è chi umilia e innalza.
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Non seminare menzogne contro tuo fratello e non fare qualcosa di simile all’amico.
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Non ricorrere mai alla menzogna: è un’abitudine che non porta alcun bene.
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Non parlare troppo nell’assemblea degli anziani e non ripetere le parole della tua preghiera.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Non disprezzare il lavoro faticoso, in particolare l’agricoltura che Dio ha istituito.
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Non unirti alla moltitudine dei peccatori, ricòrdati che la collera divina non tarderà.
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Umìliati profondamente, perché castigo dell’empio sono fuoco e vermi.
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Non cambiare un amico per interesse né un vero fratello per l’oro di Ofir.
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Non disdegnare una sposa saggia e buona, poiché la sua amabilità vale più dell’oro.
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Non maltrattare un servo che lavora fedelmente né l’operaio che si impegna totalmente.
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Ama il servo intelligente e non rifiutargli la libertà.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Hai bestiame? Abbine cura; se ti è utile, resti in tuo possesso.
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Hai figli? Educali e fa’ loro piegare il collo fin dalla giovinezza.
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Hai figlie? Vigila sul loro corpo e non mostrare loro un volto troppo indulgente.
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Fa’ sposare tua figlia e avrai compiuto un grande affare, ma dàlla a un uomo assennato.
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Hai una moglie secondo il tuo cuore? Non ripudiarla, ma se non le vuoi bene, non fidarti.
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Onora tuo padre con tutto il cuore e non dimenticare le doglie di tua madre.
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Ricorda che essi ti hanno generato: che cosa darai loro in cambio di quanto ti hanno dato?
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 Con tutta l’anima temi il Signore e abbi riverenza per i suoi sacerdoti.
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 Ama con tutta la forza chi ti ha creato e non trascurare i suoi ministri.
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 Temi il Signore e onora il sacerdote, dàgli la sua parte, come ti è stato comandato: primizie, sacrifici di riparazione, offerta delle spalle, vittima di santificazione e primizie delle cose sante.
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 Anche al povero tendi la tua mano, perché sia perfetta la tua benedizione.
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 La tua generosità si estenda a ogni vivente, ma anche al morto non negare la tua pietà.
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Non evitare coloro che piangono e con gli afflitti móstrati afflitto.
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 Non esitare a visitare un malato, perché per questo sarai amato.
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 In tutte le tue opere ricòrdati della tua fine e non cadrai mai nel peccato.
