Sirach 7

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Non fare il male e il male non ti prenderà.
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 Allontanati dall'ingiustizia ed essa starà lontana da te.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Non seminare nei solchi dell'ingiustizia perché non la raccolga per sette volte.
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Non chiedere al Signore la supremazia, né al re un seggio di gloria.
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Non giustificarti davanti al Signore e non fare il saggio al cospetto del re.
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Non cercare di diventare giudice se ti manca la forza d'estirpare l'ingiustizia, per non avere intimidazioni dal potente e non venire a compromesso con la tua onestà.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 Non fare un sopruso contro la città per non inimicarti tutto il popolo.
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 Non legarti due volte col peccato, già con una sei colpevole.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 Non dire: "Si guarderà all'abbondanza dei miei doni e sarà accetta la mia offerta al Dio Altissimo".
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 Non essere impaziente nella tua preghiera e non mancare di fare l'elemosina.
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Non irridere un uomo nella sua amarezza: uno solo è colui che umilia ed esalta.
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Non spargere menzogna sul tuo fratello, e lo stesso non fare con l'amico.
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Evita di dire qualsiasi menzogna, è un'abitudine che non giova al bene.
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Non essere chiacchierone fra gli anziani, e non ripetere le parole nella preghiera.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Non disprezzare il lavoro pesante, né l'agricoltura, creata dall'Altissimo.
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Non associarti nella compagnia dei peccatori: ricòrdati che l'ira non tarderà.
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Umìliati molto da te stesso, perché il giudizio dell'empio è fuoco e vermi.
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Non tradire un amico per denaro né un vero fratello per l'oro di Ofir.
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Non perdere l'occasione d'una moglie saggia e buona, perché la sua grazia vale più dell'oro.
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Non maltrattare il servo che lavora fedelmente, né l'operaio che s'impegna totalmente.
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Ama lo schiavo giudizioso, non rifiutargli la libertà.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Hai armenti? Curali attentamente; se sono produttivi, mantienili.
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Hai figli? Pensa alla loro educazione, piega loro il collo fin da bambini.
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Hai figlie? Veglia sul loro corpo, e con loro non allietare il volto.
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Sposa tua figlia e così risolverai un grosso problema, dàlla ad un uomo che sia di senno.
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Hai una moglie che ti piace? Non ripudiarla; ma non confidarti con la moglie se la detesti.
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Onora tuo padre con tutto il cuore, e non dimenticare le doglie di tua madre.
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Ricòrdati che da loro fosti generato; potrai ricambiarli per quanto hanno fatto?
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 Temi il Signore con tutta l'anima e riverisci i suoi sacerdoti.
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 Ama con tutta la forza colui che ti ha fatto e non trascurare i suoi ministri.
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 Temi il Signore e onora il sacerdote, dàgli la sua parte come è prescritto; le primizie, le offerte del peccato e la porzione delle spalle, il sacrificio di santificazione e le primizie sacre.
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 Stendi la tua mano anche al povero, perché ti giunga piena benedizione.
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 Se il dono piace ai vivi, anche con i morti non essere avaro.
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Non voltare le spalle a quelli che piangono e soffri con quelli che soffrono.
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 Non temere di visitare gli ammalati, perché da loro sarai riamato.
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 In tutte le tue azioni ricorda la fine, e così mai peccherai.
