NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 A hard lot has been created for human beings, a heavy yoke lies on the children of Adam from the daythey come out of their mother's womb, till the day they return to the mother of them al .	1 - Grande travaglio fu destinato a tutti gli uomini, e grave giogo [imposto] ai figliuoli d'Adamo, dal giorno ch'escon dal ventre della loro madre, sino al giorno della sepoltura nel [seno del]la madre comune:
2 What fills them with foreboding and their hearts with fear is dread of the day of death.	2 loro pensieri, le ansie del loro cuore, la preoccupazione dell'aspettativa, e il dì della morte.
3 From the one who sits on a glorious throne to the wretch in dust and ashes,	3 Da colui ch'è assiso sopra un trono di gloria, al miserabile che giace nella polvere e nella cenere;
4 from the one who wears purple and a crown to the one dressed in sacking, al is fury and jealousy,turmoil and unrest, fear of death, rivalry, strife.	4 da colui che veste di porpora e porta la corona,a colui ch'è ricoperto di ruvido lino; [in tutti infierisce] rabbia, gelosia, agitazione, ansietà, paura della morte, rancore continuo e lotta!
5 And even at night while he rests on his bed his sleep only gives a new twist to his worries:	5 Anche nel tempo che [uno] si riposa sul letto, il sonno notturno perturba le sue idee.
6 scarcely has he lain down to rest, when in his sleep, as if in broad daylight, he is troubled withnightmares, like one who has escaped from a battle,	6 Per poco tempo, quasi un nulla, gusta riposo, e n'[è sturbato] da sogni, come [fosse] nel giorno ch'è di sentinella. -
7 and at the moment of rescue he wakes up, amazed that there was nothing to be afraid of!	7 E' conturbato dai fantasmi del suo cuore, come un fuggito via nel dì della battaglia: e giunto in salvo, si sveglia, e si meraviglia della vana paura.
8 For al creatures, human and animal -- and seven times more for sinners-	8 Per ogni vivente, dall'uomo fino alla bestia, — e per i peccatori sette volte di più
9 there is death and blood and strife and the sword, disasters, famine, affliction, plague.	9 ancora — peste e strage, conflitti e spada, oppressione e fame, rovina e flagelli!
10 These things were al created for the wicked, and the Flood came because of them.	10 Contro gl'iniqui è stato creato tuttociò, e per essi venne il diluvio.
11 Al that comes from the earth returns to the earth, and what comes from the water returns to the sea.	11 Tutto quanto provien dalla terra, ritorna alla terra e tutte le acque fan ritorno al mare.
12 Al bribery and injustice wil be blotted out, but good faith wil stand for ever.	12 Ogni dono e ingiustizia periranno, ma la fedeltà durerà in eterno.
13 Il -gotten wealth will vanish like a torrent, like the single thunder-clap that heralds rain.	13 Le ricchezze degli ingiusti seccheranno come un torrente, e svaniranno come il fracasso di gran tuono durante la tempesta.
14 When he opens his hand, he rejoices, by the same token, sinners come to ruin.	14 Quando uno apre la mano [a beneficare], se ne troverà contento; ma i prevaricatori andranno in malora,
15 The sprigs of the godless wil not make many branches, tainted roots find only hard rock.	15 I rampolli degli empi non metteran molti rami, e le radici degli immondi [stanno] in cima a una roccia.
16 The reed that grows by every lake and river's edge is the first plant to be uprooted.	16 La verzura [ch'è] presso ogni acqua e sulla sponda d'un rivo prima d'ogni altra erba è estirpata.
17 Charity is a very paradise of blessing and almsgiving endures for ever.	17 [Ma] la benignità è come un giardino benedetto, e la beneficenza perdura in eterno.
18 For a person of private means and one who works hard, life is pleasant, better off than either, one whofinds a treasure.	18 Dolce è la vita dell'operaio che basta a se stesso, e in essa troverai un tesoro.
19 Children and the founding of a city perpetuate a name: more esteemed than either, a perfect wife.	19 [L'aver] figliuoli e il fabbricare una città danno un nome duraturo; ma meglio d'[entrambe] queste cose è stimata una moglie irreprensibile,
20 Wine and music cheer the heart; better than either, the love of wisdom.	20 Il vino e la musica rallegrano il cuore; ma meglio d'entrambi l'amor della sapienza.
21 Flute and harp add sweetness to a song; better than either, a melodious voice.	21 Il flauto e l'arpa fan soave concento, ma meglio d'entrambi è una lingua gentile.
22 The eye longs for grace and beauty; better than either, the green of spring corn.	22 Della grazia e della bellezza si compiace il tuo occhio; ina meglio d'entrambe sono i seminati verdeggianti.
23 Friend or comrade -- it is always wel met; better than either, a wife and husband.	23 L'amico e il compagno càpitano in buon punto; ma meglio d'entrambi una moglie col marito.
24 Brothers and al ies are good in times of trouble; better than either, almsgiving to the rescue.	24 Fratelli [e parenti] son d'aiuto nel tempo della tribolazione ma meglio di loro [entrambi] è la carità che salva.
25 Gold and silver wil steady your feet; more esteemed than either, good advice.	25 L'oro e l'argento consolidano i piedi; ma meglio d'entrambi è stimato un [buon] consiglio.
26 Money and strength make a confident heart; better than either, the fear of the Lord. With fear of theLord, nothing is lacking: no need to seek for other help.	26 La ricchezza e la forza esaltano il cuore; ma meglio [d'entrambi è] il timor del Signore.
27 Fear of the Lord is a paradise of blessing, a better protection than the highest reputation.	27 Non si soffre penuria col timor di Dio, nè v'è, con esso, da ricercare aiuto.
28 My child, do not live by sponging off others, better be dead than be a sponger.	28 Il timore del Signore è come un giardino di benedizione, e sopra ad ogni magnificenza fu steso quel velo.
29 A life spent in eyeing someone else's table cannot be accounted a life at al . Other people's fooddefiles the gul et; a wise, wel -brought-up person wil beware of doing this.	29 Figliuolo, nel tempo della tua vita non ridurti alla mendicità: meglio morire che mendicare.
30 What a sponger says may sound very sweet but in his bel y there burns a fire.	30 Chi volge rocchio alla mensa altrui, la sua vita non può considerarsi una vita. Egli contamina l'anima sua con cibi estranei;
	31 ma un uomo ben educato e saggio si guarda bene [da ciò]!
	32 In bocca a un impudente sarà dolce il mendicare, ma un fuoco avvamperà nelle sue viscere.
