Sirach 40

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 A hard lot has been created for human beings, a heavy yoke lies on the children of Adam from the daythey come out of their mother's womb, till the day they return to the mother of them al .	1 Una penosa tarea ha sido impuesta a todo hombre y un yugo pesado agobia a los hijos de Adán, desde el día que salen del vientre materno, hasta el día que retornan a la madre común.
2 What fills them with foreboding and their hearts with fear is dread of the day of death.	2 Les da mucho que pensar y los llena de temor la ansiosa expectativa del día de la muerte.
3 From the one who sits on a glorious throne to the wretch in dust and ashes,	3 Desde el que está sentado en un trono glorioso hasta el humillado en el polvo y la ceniza;
4 from the one who wears purple and a crown to the one dressed in sacking, al is fury and jealousy,turmoil and unrest, fear of death, rivalry, strife.	4 desde el que lleva púrpura y corona hasta el que va vestido miserablemente, sólo sienten rabia y envidia, turbación e inquietud, miedo a la muerte, resentimiento y rivalidad;
5 And even at night while he rests on his bed his sleep only gives a new twist to his worries:	5 y a la hora en que cada uno descansa en su lecho, el sueño de la noche perturba sus pensamientos.
6 scarcely has he lain down to rest, when in his sleep, as if in broad daylight, he is troubled withnightmares, like one who has escaped from a battle,	6 Descansa un poco, casi nada, y empieza a debatirse como en pleno día, agitado por sus propias pesadillas, como quien huye de un campo de batalla.
7 and at the moment of rescue he wakes up, amazed that there was nothing to be afraid of!	7 En el momento de sentirse a salvo, se despierta y ve con sorpresa que su temor era infundado.
8 For al creatures, human and animal -- and seven times more for sinners-	8 Esto le toca a todo ser viviente, sea hombre o animal, pero a los pecadores, siete veces más:
9 there is death and blood and strife and the sword, disasters, famine, affliction, plague.	9 muerte, sangre, rivalidad y espada, adversidad, hambre, destrucción y flagelo.
10 These things were al created for the wicked, and the Flood came because of them.	10 Todo esto fue creado para los impíos, y a causa de ellos sobrevino el diluvio.
11 Al that comes from the earth returns to the earth, and what comes from the water returns to the sea.	11 Todo lo que sale de la tierra, retorna a la tierra, y lo que sale de las aguas, vuelve al mar.
12 Al bribery and injustice wil be blotted out, but good faith wil stand for ever.	12 El soborno y la injusticia desaparecerán, pero la fidelidad permanece para siempre.
13 Il -gotten wealth will vanish like a torrent, like the single thunder-clap that heralds rain.	13 La riqueza de los injustos se secará como un torrente, es como el fragor de un trueno que estalla en la tormenta.
14 When he opens his hand, he rejoices, by the same token, sinners come to ruin.	14 Cuando uno de ellos se apodera de algo, se alegra, pero los transgresores desaparecerán por completo.
15 The sprigs of the godless wil not make many branches, tainted roots find only hard rock.	15 Los retoños de los impíos no multiplican sus ramas, y las raíces impuras están sobre una roca escarpada.

19 Children and the founding of a city perpetuate a name: more esteemed than either, a perfect wife.	19 Tener hijos y fundar una ciudad perpetúan el nombre, pero más se estima a una mujer irreprochable.
20 Wine and music cheer the heart; better than either, the love of wisdom.	20 El vino y la música alegran el corazón, pero más todavía el amor a la sabiduría.
21 Flute and harp add sweetness to a song; better than either, a melodious voice.	21 La flauta y el arpa emiten sonidos melodiosos, pero más todavía una lengua dulce.
22 The eye longs for grace and beauty; better than either, the green of spring corn.	22 La gracia y la belleza atraen la mirada, pero más todavía el verdor de los campos.
23 Friend or comrade -- it is always wel met; better than either, a wife and husband.	23 El amigo y el compañero se ayudan oportunamente, pero más todavía la mujer y el marido.
24 Brothers and al ies are good in times of trouble; better than either, almsgiving to the rescue.	24 Los hermanos y los bienhechores son útiles en la adversidad, pero más todavía salva la limosna.
25 Gold and silver wil steady your feet; more esteemed than either, good advice.	25 El oro y la plata hacen marchar con paso firme, pero más todavía se aprecia un consejo.
26 Money and strength make a confident heart; better than either, the fear of the Lord. With fear of theLord, nothing is lacking: no need to seek for other help.	26 La riqueza y la fuerza reconfortan el corazón, pero más todavía el temor del Señor. Con el temor del Señor, nada falta, y ya no es necesario buscar otra ayuda.
27 Fear of the Lord is a paradise of blessing, a better protection than the highest reputation.	27 El temor del Señor es como un vergel exuberante, y protege más que cualquier gloria.
28 My child, do not live by sponging off others, better be dead than be a sponger.	28 Hijo mío, no vivas de la mendicidad, porque más vale morir que mendigar.
29 A life spent in eyeing someone else's table cannot be accounted a life at al . Other people's fooddefiles the gul et; a wise, wel -brought-up person wil beware of doing this.	29 No merece llamarse vida la del que está pendiente de la mesa de otro. El mancha su boca con comida ajena, y el hombre instruido y bien educado se cuida de hacerlo.
30 What a sponger says may sound very sweet but in his bel y there burns a fire.	30 En boca del desvergonzado la mendicidad es dulce, pero en sus entrañas será fuego ardiente.
