NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 A hard lot has been created for human beings, a heavy yoke lies on the children of Adam from the daythey come out of their mother's womb, till the day they return to the mother of them al .	1 Grandi pene sono destinate a ogni uomo e un giogo pesante sta sui figli di Adamo, dal giorno della loro uscita dal grembo materno fino al giorno del ritorno alla madre di tutti.
2 What fills them with foreboding and their hearts with fear is dread of the day of death.	2 Il pensiero dell’attesa e il giorno della fine provocano le loro riflessioni e il timore del cuore.
3 From the one who sits on a glorious throne to the wretch in dust and ashes,	3 Da chi siede su un trono glorioso fino a chi è umiliato su terra e su cenere,
4 from the one who wears purple and a crown to the one dressed in sacking, al is fury and jealousy,turmoil and unrest, fear of death, rivalry, strife.	4 da chi indossa porpora e corona fino a chi è ricoperto di panno grossolano,
5 And even at night while he rests on his bed his sleep only gives a new twist to his worries:	5 non c’è che sdegno, invidia, spavento, agitazione, paura della morte, contese e liti. Anche durante il riposo nel letto il sogno notturno turba i suoi pensieri:
6 scarcely has he lain down to rest, when in his sleep, as if in broad daylight, he is troubled withnightmares, like one who has escaped from a battle,	6 per un poco, come niente, sta nel riposo e subito nel sonno si affatica come di giorno, è sconvolto dalla visione del suo cuore, come chi è scampato da una battaglia.
7 and at the moment of rescue he wakes up, amazed that there was nothing to be afraid of!	7 Al momento di mettersi in salvo si sveglia, meravigliandosi dell’irreale timore.
8 For al creatures, human and animal -- and seven times more for sinners-	8 Così è per ogni essere vivente, dall’uomo alla bestia, ma per i peccatori sette volte tanto:
9 there is death and blood and strife and the sword, disasters, famine, affliction, plague.	9 morte, sangue, contese, spada, disgrazie, fame, calamità, flagelli.
10 These things were al created for the wicked, and the Flood came because of them.	10 Questi mali sono stati creati per gli empi, per loro causa venne anche il diluvio.
11 Al that comes from the earth returns to the earth, and what comes from the water returns to the sea.	11 Tutto quello che proviene dalla terra alla terra ritorna, quanto viene dalle acque rifluisce nel mare.
12 Al bribery and injustice wil be blotted out, but good faith wil stand for ever.	12 Ogni corruzione e ogni ingiustizia sparirà, ma la fedeltà resterà per sempre.
13 Il -gotten wealth will vanish like a torrent, like the single thunder-clap that heralds rain.	13 Le ricchezze degli ingiusti si prosciugheranno come un torrente, si disperderanno come tuono che echeggia durante l’uragano.
14 When he opens his hand, he rejoices, by the same token, sinners come to ruin.	14 Se gli ingiusti dovranno alzare le mani, ci si rallegrerà, così i trasgressori cadranno in rovina.
15 The sprigs of the godless wil not make many branches, tainted roots find only hard rock.	15 La stirpe degli empi non moltiplica i suoi rami, le radici impure sono sopra una pietra dura.
16 The reed that grows by every lake and river's edge is the first plant to be uprooted.	16 Il giunco su ogni corso d’acqua o sugli argini di un fiume viene tagliato prima di ogni altra erba.
17 Charity is a very paradise of blessing and almsgiving endures for ever.	17 Un atto di bontà è come un giardino di benedizioni, l’elemosina dura per sempre.
18 For a person of private means and one who works hard, life is pleasant, better off than either, one whofinds a treasure.	18 La vita di chi basta a se stesso e del lavoratore è dolce, ma più ancora lo è per chi trova un tesoro.
19 Children and the founding of a city perpetuate a name: more esteemed than either, a perfect wife.	19 I figli e la fondazione di una città consolidano un nome, ma più ancora è apprezzata una donna irreprensibile.
20 Wine and music cheer the heart; better than either, the love of wisdom.	20 Vino e musica rallegrano il cuore, ma più ancora l’amore della sapienza.
21 Flute and harp add sweetness to a song; better than either, a melodious voice.	21 Il flauto e l’arpa rendono piacevole il canto, ma più ancora una voce soave.
22 The eye longs for grace and beauty; better than either, the green of spring corn.	22 L’occhio desidera grazia e bellezza, ma più ancora il verde dei campi.
23 Friend or comrade -- it is always wel met; better than either, a wife and husband.	23 Il compagno e l’amico s’incontrano a tempo opportuno, ma più ancora moglie e marito.
24 Brothers and al ies are good in times of trouble; better than either, almsgiving to the rescue.	24 Fratelli e soccorritori aiutano nella tribolazione, ma più ancora l’elemosina.
25 Gold and silver wil steady your feet; more esteemed than either, good advice.	25 Oro e argento rendono sicuro il piede, ma più ancora è stimato un consiglio.
26 Money and strength make a confident heart; better than either, the fear of the Lord. With fear of theLord, nothing is lacking: no need to seek for other help.	26 Ricchezze e potenza sollevano il cuore, ma più ancora il timore del Signore. Con il timore del Signore non manca nulla, con esso non c’è bisogno di cercare un altro aiuto.
27 Fear of the Lord is a paradise of blessing, a better protection than the highest reputation.	27 Il timore del Signore è come un giardino di benedizioni e protegge più di qualsiasi gloria.
28 My child, do not live by sponging off others, better be dead than be a sponger.	28 Figlio, non vivere una vita da mendicante: è meglio morire piuttosto che mendicare.
29 A life spent in eyeing someone else's table cannot be accounted a life at al . Other people's fooddefiles the gul et; a wise, wel -brought-up person wil beware of doing this.	29 Un uomo che guarda alla tavola altrui ha una vita che non si può chiamare tale; si contaminerà con cibi estranei, l’uomo sapiente ed educato se ne guarderà.
30 What a sponger says may sound very sweet but in his bel y there burns a fire.	30 Il mendicare è dolce nella bocca dello sfrontato, ma dentro di lui c’è un fuoco che brucia.
