Sirach 30

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Whoever loves his son will beat him frequently so that in after years the son may be his comfort.	1 - Chi ama il suo figliuolo, gli è sempre addosso con la sferza, perchè possa rallegrarsi della sua riuscita, e quegli non abbia a picchiare alle porte de' vicini.
2 Whoever is strict with his son wil reap the benefit, and be able to boast of him to his acquaintances.	2 Chi castiga il suo figliuolo, avrà a lodarsi di lui, e tra i conoscenti se ne glorierà.
3 Whoever educates his son wil be the envy of his enemy, and wil be proud of him among his friends.	3 Chi istruisce suo figlio, fa geloso il nemico, e davanti agli amici se ne glorierà.
4 Even when the father dies, he might wel not be dead, since he leaves his likeness behind him.	4 Muore il padre di lui e quasi non muore; perchè dopo di sè lascia uno che gli rassomiglia.
5 In life he has had the joy of his company, dying, he has no anxieties.	5 Durante la sua vita lo vede e n'ha consolazione, e in morte non si rattrista, nè ha da arrossire in faccia a' nemici.
6 He leaves an avenger against his enemies and a rewarder of favours for his friends.	6 Lascia invero un vendicatore della sua casa contro i nemici, e uno che mostrerà riconoscenza agli amici.
7 Whoever coddles his son will bandage his wounds, his heart wil turn over at every cry.	7 Chi vezzeggia suo figlio, fascerà le sue piaghe, e a ogni grido [di lui] si turberan le sue viscere.
8 A badly broken-in horse turns out stubborn, a son left to himself turns out headstrong.	8 Un cavallo non domato diventa intrattabile, e un figliuolo abbandonato a sè, diventa un rompicollo.
9 Pamper your child and he wil terrorise you, play along with him and he wil bring you sorrow.	9 Accarezza il figliuolo e ti farà paventare, scherza con lui e ti rattristerà.
10 Do not laugh with him, or one day you wil weep with him and end up gnashing your teeth.	10 Non ridere con lui, perchè tu non abbia a piangere insieme, e, da ultimo, a digrignare i denti.
11 While he is young, do not al ow him his freedom and do not wink at his mistakes.	11 Non gli lasciar libertà nella gioventù, e non chiuder un occhio sui suoi capricci.
12 Bend his neck in youth, bruise his ribs while he is a child, or else he wil grow stubborn anddisobedient, and hurt you very deeply.	12 Piega la sua cervice nella gioventù, e rompigli le costole mentr'è fanciullo; perchè non divenga caparbio e ti si ribelli, e tu n'abbia strazio di cuore.
13 Be strict with your son, and persevere with him, or you will rue his insolence.	13 Educa tuo figlio e affaticati intorno a lui, per non incappare nella sua turpitudine.
14 Better be poor if healthy and fit than rich if tormented in body.	14 Meglio un povero sano e vigoroso di forze, che un ricco cagionevole e flagellato dal male.
15 Health and strength are better than any gold, a robust body than untold wealth.	15 La salute dell'anima, nella santità della giustizia, vai più d'ogni oro e argento, e il corpo robusto più d'una ricchezza immensa.
16 No riches can outweigh bodily health, no enjoyment surpass a cheerful heart.	16 Non c'è ricchezza che superi quella della salute del corpo, e non c'è piacere superiore alla gioia del cuore.
17 Better death than a wretched life, and everlasting rest than chronic il ness.	17 Meglio la morte che una vita amara, e il riposo eterno che una malattia ostinata.
18 Good things lavished on a closed mouth are like food offerings put on a grave.	18 Le buone cose profuse a una bocca chiusa, son come le offerte di vivande poste sur una tomba.
19 What use is an offering to an idol which can neither eat nor smel ? How describe someone pursued bythe Lord's displeasure?	19 Che giova l'oblazione a un idolo? esso invero non mangerà e non sentirà l'odore!
20 He looks and sighs like a eunuch embracing a pretty girl -- how he sighs!	20 Cosi colui ch'è perseguitato dal Signore, e porta la pena della sua iniquità.
21 Do not abandon yourself to sorrow, do not torment yourself with brooding.	21 Vede con gli occhi e geme, come l'eunuco che abbraccia una vergine e sospirai
22 Gladness of heart is life to anyone, joy is what gives length of days.	22 Non abbandonar l'anima tua alla tristezza, e non t'angustiare co' tuoi pensieri.
23 Give your cares the slip, console your heart, chase sorrow far away; for sorrow has been the ruin ofmany, and is no use to anybody.	23 L'allegria del cuore è la vita dell'uomo, e un tesoro inesausto di santità, e l'esultanza dell'uomo è longevità.
24 Jealousy and anger shorten your days, and worry brings premature old age.	24 Abbi pietà dell'anima tua, rendendoti accetto a Dio, e sii continente: raccogli il tuo cuore nella santità di lui, e caccia lungi da te la tristezza.
25 A genial heart makes a good trencherman, someone who enjoys a good meal.	25 Molti invero ha ucciso la tristezza, e non c'è utilità in essa.
	26 invidia e l'ira abbreviano i giorni, e vecchiaia anzi tempo arrecan le cure.
	27 Un cuor liberale e contento bada alla tavola: i suoi pasti infatti son preparati con cura.
