Sirach 30

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Whoever loves his son will beat him frequently so that in after years the son may be his comfort.	1 El que ama a su hijo, le azota sin cesar, para poderse alegrar en su futuro.
2 Whoever is strict with his son wil reap the benefit, and be able to boast of him to his acquaintances.	2 El que enseña a su hijo, sacará provecho de él, entre sus conocidos de él se gloriará.
3 Whoever educates his son wil be the envy of his enemy, and wil be proud of him among his friends.	3 El que instruye a su hijo, pondrá celoso a su enemigo, y ante sus amigos se sentirá gozoso.
4 Even when the father dies, he might wel not be dead, since he leaves his likeness behind him.	4 Murió su padre, y como si no hubiera muerto, pues dejó tras de sí un hombre igual que él.
5 In life he has had the joy of his company, dying, he has no anxieties.	5 En su vida le mira con contento, y a su muerte no se siente triste.
6 He leaves an avenger against his enemies and a rewarder of favours for his friends.	6 Contra sus enemigos deja un vengador, y para los amigos quien les pague sus favores.
7 Whoever coddles his son will bandage his wounds, his heart wil turn over at every cry.	7 El que mima a su hijo, vendará sus heridas, a cada grito se le conmoverán sus entrañas.
8 A badly broken-in horse turns out stubborn, a son left to himself turns out headstrong.	8 Caballo no domado, sale indócil, hijo consentido, sale libertino.
9 Pamper your child and he wil terrorise you, play along with him and he wil bring you sorrow.	9 Halaga a tu hijo, y te dará sorpresas juega con él, y te traerá pesares.
10 Do not laugh with him, or one day you wil weep with him and end up gnashing your teeth.	10 No rías con él, para no llorar y acabar rechinando de dientes.
11 While he is young, do not al ow him his freedom and do not wink at his mistakes.	11 No le des libertad en su juventud, y no pases por alto sus errores.
12 Bend his neck in youth, bruise his ribs while he is a child, or else he wil grow stubborn anddisobedient, and hurt you very deeply.	12 Doblega su cerviz mientras es joven, tunde sus costillas cuando es niño, no sea que, volviéndose indócil, te desobedezca, y sufras por él amargura de alma.
13 Be strict with your son, and persevere with him, or you will rue his insolence.	13 Enseña a tu hijo y trabaja en él, para que no tropieces por su desvergüenza.
14 Better be poor if healthy and fit than rich if tormented in body.	14 Vale más pobre sano y fuerte de constitución que rico lleno de achaques en su cuerpo.
15 Health and strength are better than any gold, a robust body than untold wealth.	15 Salud y buena constitución valen más que todo el oro, cuerpo vigoroso más que inmensa fortuna.
16 No riches can outweigh bodily health, no enjoyment surpass a cheerful heart.	16 Ni hay riqueza mejor que la salud del cuerpo, ni contento mayor que la alegría del corazón.
17 Better death than a wretched life, and everlasting rest than chronic il ness.	17 Mejor es la muerte que una vida amarga, el descanso eterno que enfermedad permanente.
18 Good things lavished on a closed mouth are like food offerings put on a grave.	18 Manjares derramados sobre boca cerrada, eso son las ofrendas de alimentos puestas sobre una tumba.
19 What use is an offering to an idol which can neither eat nor smel ? How describe someone pursued bythe Lord's displeasure?	19 ¿De qué le sirve el sacrificio a un ídolo? ¡ni lo comerá ni lo olerá! Así aquel a quien persigue el Señor,
20 He looks and sighs like a eunuch embracing a pretty girl -- how he sighs!	20 que mira con sus ojos y gime. Escomo un eunuco que oprime a una virgen y gime.
21 Do not abandon yourself to sorrow, do not torment yourself with brooding.	21 No entregues tu alma a la tristeza, ni te atormentes a ti mismo con tus cavilaciones.
22 Gladness of heart is life to anyone, joy is what gives length of days.	22 La alegría de corazón es la vida del hombre, el regocijo del varón, prolongación de sus días.
23 Give your cares the slip, console your heart, chase sorrow far away; for sorrow has been the ruin ofmany, and is no use to anybody.	23 Engaña tu alma y consuela tu corazón, echa lejos de ti la tristeza; que la tristeza perdió a muchos, y no hay en ella utilidad.
24 Jealousy and anger shorten your days, and worry brings premature old age.	24 Envidia y malhumor los días acortan, las preocupaciones traen la vejez antes de tiempo.
25 A genial heart makes a good trencherman, someone who enjoys a good meal.	25 Un corazón radiante viene bien en las comidas, se preocupa de lo que come.
