Sirach 21

NEW JERUSALEM	EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL
1 My child, have you sinned? Do so no more, and ask forgiveness for your previous faults.	1 Mein Sohn, hast du gesündigt, tu es nicht wieder und bete wegen deiner früheren Sünden!
2 Flee from sin as from a snake, if you approach it, it wil bite you; its teeth are lion's teeth, they takehuman life away.	2 Flieh vor der Sünde wie vor der Schlange; kommst du ihr zu nahe, so beißt sie dich. Löwenzähne sind ihre Zähne, sie rauben den Menschen das Leben.
3 Al law-breaking is like a two-edged sword, the wounds it inflicts are beyond cure.	3 Wie ein zweischneidiges Schwert ist jedes Unrecht; für die Wunde, die es schlägt, gibt es keine Heilung.
4 Terror and violence make havoc of riches, similarly, desolation overtakes the houses of the proud.	4 Gewalttat und Hochmut verwüsten den Wohlstand, das Haus des Übermütigen stürzt ein.
5 A plea from the mouth of the poor goes straight to the ear of God, whose judgement comes withoutdelay.	5 Das Gebet aus dem Mund des Armen dringt zu den Ohren Gottes und rasch kommt Gottes Gericht.
6 Whoever resents reproof walks in the sinner's footsteps; whoever fears the Lord is repentant of heart.	6 Wer Ermahnung hasst, folgt der Spur des Sünders; wer den Herrn fürchtet, nimmt sie sich zu Herzen.
7 The glib speaker is known far and wide, but the wary detects every slip.	7 Von weitem erkennt man den Schwätzer; der Erfahrene merkt es, wenn jener entgleist.
8 To build your house with other people's money is like collecting stones for your own tomb.	8 Baut einer sein Haus mit fremdem Geld, sammelt er Steine für einen Schutthaufen.
9 A meeting of the lawless is like a heap of tow: they wil end in a blazing fire.	9 Ein Bündel Werg ist die Versammlung der Ruchlosen, ihr Ende ist die Feuerflamme.
10 The sinner's road is smoothly paved, but it ends at the pit of Sheol.	10 Der Weg der Sünder ist frei von Steinen; doch sein Ende ist die Tiefe der Unterwelt.
11 Whoever keeps the Law wil master his instincts; the fear of the Lord is made perfect in wisdom.	11 Wer das Gesetz befolgt, beherrscht seinen Trieb und Gottesfurcht ist vollendete Weisheit.
12 No one who lacks aptitude can be taught, but certain aptitudes give rise to bitterness.	12 Der Unkluge lässt sich nicht erziehen; doch es gibt auch Klugheit, die viel Bitterkeit einträgt.
13 The sage's knowledge is as rich as the abyss and his advice is like a living spring.	13 Das Wissen des Weisen schwillt an wie ein Bach, wie ein lebendiger Quell ist sein Rat.
14 The heart of a fool is like a broken jar, it will not hold any knowledge.	14 Das Herz des Toren ist wie eine geborstene Zisterne: Es hält keine Weisheit fest.
15 If the educated hears a wise saying, he praises it and caps it with another; if a debauchee hears it, hedoes not like it and tosses it behind his back.	15 Hört der Verständige ein weises Wort, lobt er es und fügt andere hinzu. Hört es der Leichtfertige, lacht er darüber, er wirft es weit hinter sich.
16 The talk of a fool is like a load on a journey, but it is a pleasure to listen to the intelligent.	16 Das Gespräch des Toren ist wie eine Last auf der Reise, doch auf den Lippen des Verständigen findet sich Anmut.
17 The utterance of the shrewd wil be eagerly awaited in the assembly, what he says wil be givenserious consideration.	17 Die Rede des Weisen begehrt man in der Versammlung und seine Worte überdenkt man im Herzen.
18 The wisdom of a fool is like the wreckage of a house, the knowledge of a dolt is incoherent talk.	18 Wie ein Gefängnis ist dem Toren die Weisheit, Erkenntnis ist dem Unverständigen wie eine Fessel.
19 To the senseless fel ow instruction is like fetters on the feet, like manacles on the right hand.	19 Wie Ketten an den Füßen ist dem Unvernünftigen die Zucht und wie Handschellen an der rechten Hand.
20 A fool laughs at the top of his voice, but the intel igent quietly smiles.	20 Der Tor lacht mit lauter Stimme, der Kluge aber lächelt kaum leise.
21 To the shrewd instruction is like a golden ornament, like a bracelet on the right arm.	21 Wie ein goldener Schmuck ist dem Weisen die Zucht und wie eine Spange am rechten Arm.
22 The step of a fool goes straight into a house, but a person of much experience makes a respectfulapproach;	22 Der Fuß des Toren eilt rasch ins Haus, der Besonnene aber wartet bescheiden.
23 the stupid peeps inside through the door, a well-bred person waits outside.	23 Der Tor blickt durch die Tür ins Haus hinein, der Wohlerzogene bleibt draußen stehen.
24 Listening at doors is a sign of bad upbringing, the perceptive would be ashamed to do so.	24 Ungezogen ist es, an der Tür zu horchen, der Verständige aber verschließt seine Ohren.
25 The lips of gossips repeat the words of others, the words of the wise are careful y weighed.	25 Die Lippen der Frevler erzählen ihre eigene Torheit, die Worte der Verständigen sind wohl abgewogen.
26 The heart of fools is in their mouth, but the mouth of the wise is in their heart.	26 Die Toren haben ihr Herz auf der Zunge, die Weisen haben ihre Zunge im Herzen.
27 When the godless curses Satan, he is cursing himself.	27 Verflucht der Ruchlose den Gerechten, so verflucht er sich selbst.
28 The scandal-monger sul ies himself and earns the hatred of the neighbourhood.	28 Sich selbst besudelt der Verleumder; wo er wohnt, ist er verhasst.
