Sirach 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 My child, have you sinned? Do so no more, and ask forgiveness for your previous faults.	1 Figliolo, hai peccato? Non peccar più, ma prega anche per le colpe passate, per ottenerne il perdono.
2 Flee from sin as from a snake, if you approach it, it wil bite you; its teeth are lion's teeth, they takehuman life away.	2 Come dalla faccia del serpente, così fuggi dal peccato: se a lui ti accosti, ti morderà.
3 Al law-breaking is like a two-edged sword, the wounds it inflicts are beyond cure.	3 I suoi denti son denti di leoni che uccidono le anime degli uomini.
4 Terror and violence make havoc of riches, similarly, desolation overtakes the houses of the proud.	4 Come spada a doppio taglio è ogni colpa, e alla sua ferita non c'è rimedio.
5 A plea from the mouth of the poor goes straight to the ear of God, whose judgement comes withoutdelay.	5 L'arroganza e la violenza annientano le ricchezze. La casa della grande abbondanza sarà spiantata dalla superbia: così i beni dell'orgoglioso saranno sradicati.
6 Whoever resents reproof walks in the sinner's footsteps; whoever fears the Lord is repentant of heart.	6 Dalla bocca del povero la preghiera giungerà fino alle orecchie di Dio, e ben presto sarà a lui resa giustizia.
7 The glib speaker is known far and wide, but the wary detects every slip.	7 Chi odia la correzione segue la via del peccatore; ma chi teme Dio rientrerà in se stesso.
8 To build your house with other people's money is like collecting stones for your own tomb.	8 Chi è potente per l'audacia della lingua si dà a conoscere da lontano, ma l'uomo assennato sa schivarlo.
9 A meeting of the lawless is like a heap of tow: they wil end in a blazing fire.	9 Chi si fabbrica la casa coi danari altrui è come colui che mette assieme le pietre nell'inverno.
10 The sinner's road is smoothly paved, but it ends at the pit of Sheol.	10 L'assemblea degli iniqui è stoppa ammucchiata, e finirà tra le fiamme ardenti.
11 Whoever keeps the Law wil master his instincts; the fear of the Lord is made perfect in wisdom.	11 La via dei peccatori è lastricata di pietre; ma va a finire all'inferno, nelle tenebre, nei tormenti.
12 No one who lacks aptitude can be taught, but certain aptitudes give rise to bitterness.	12 Chi osserva la legge domina i suoi istinti.
13 The sage's knowledge is as rich as the abyss and his advice is like a living spring.	13 La perfezione del timor di Dio è sapienza e intelligenza.
14 The heart of a fool is like a broken jar, it will not hold any knowledge.	14 Non sarà istruito chi non è sapiente nel bene.
15 If the educated hears a wise saying, he praises it and caps it with another; if a debauchee hears it, hedoes not like it and tosses it behind his back.	15 Or v'è una sapienza feconda di male, ma non c'è sapienza dov'è l'amarezza.
16 The talk of a fool is like a load on a journey, but it is a pleasure to listen to the intelligent.	16 La scienza del sapiente traboccherà come inondazione, e il suo consiglio rimarrà come fonte di vita.
17 The utterance of the shrewd wil be eagerly awaited in the assembly, what he says wil be givenserious consideration.	17 Il cuore dell'insensato è come un vaso rotto, e non può ritenere sapienza alcuna.
18 The wisdom of a fool is like the wreckage of a house, the knowledge of a dolt is incoherent talk.	18 Qualunque parola abbia sentita l'uomo saggio, la loderà e se l'applicherà; se l'ascolta il voluttuoso, essa gli dispiacerà, e se la getterà dietro le spalle.
19 To the senseless fel ow instruction is like fetters on the feet, like manacles on the right hand.	19 Il racconto dello stolto è come un far dello nel viaggio, ma sui labbri del saggio si troverà la grazia.
20 A fool laughs at the top of his voice, but the intel igent quietly smiles.	20 La parola del prudente sarà ricercata nelle adunanze, e le sue parole saran meditate nei cuori.
21 To the shrewd instruction is like a golden ornament, like a bracelet on the right arm.	21 Come una casa rovinata, cosi è per lo stolto la sapienza, e la scienza dell'insensato consiste in parole senza senso.
22 The step of a fool goes straight into a house, but a person of much experience makes a respectfulapproach;	22 La disciplina è per lo stolto come ceppi ai piedi e come catene alla mano destra.
23 the stupid peeps inside through the door, a well-bred person waits outside.	23 Lo stolto fa strepito nel ridere, il sapiente invece nel ridere si farà appena sentire.
24 Listening at doors is a sign of bad upbringing, the perceptive would be ashamed to do so.	24 La dottrina è pel sapiente un ornamento d'oro, e come un braccia letto al polso destro.
25 The lips of gossips repeat the words of others, the words of the wise are careful y weighed.	25 Il piede dello stolto entra facilmente in casa del prossimo, ma l'uomo accorto si vergognerà in faccia ai grandi.
26 The heart of fools is in their mouth, but the mouth of the wise is in their heart.	26 Lo stolto guarderà dentro la casa dalla finestra, ma l'uomo educato se ne starà fuori.
27 When the godless curses Satan, he is cursing himself.	27 E' umana stoltezza stare a origliare alla porta: il prudente ne sentirà la sconvenienza.
28 The scandal-monger sul ies himself and earns the hatred of the neighbourhood.	28 Le labbra degli imprudenti racconteranno cose assurde, ma le parole dei saggi saran pesate sulla bilancia.
	29 Gli stolti hanno il cuore sulla bocca, i saggi invece hanno la bocca sul cuore.
	30 Quando l'empio maledice il diavolo, maledice l'anima propria.
	31 Il delatore contaminerà l'anima propria, sarà odiato in ogni cosa, e chi starà con lui sarà malvisto; ma l'uomo silenzioso e di buon senso sarà onorato.
