Sirach 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 My child, have you sinned? Do so no more, and ask forgiveness for your previous faults.	1 Figlio, hai peccato? Non farlo più e chiedi perdono per le tue colpe passate.
2 Flee from sin as from a snake, if you approach it, it wil bite you; its teeth are lion's teeth, they takehuman life away.	2 Come davanti a un serpente, fuggi il peccato: se ti avvicini, ti morderà. Denti di leone sono i suoi denti, capaci di distruggere vite umane.
3 Al law-breaking is like a two-edged sword, the wounds it inflicts are beyond cure.	3 Ogni trasgressione è spada a doppio taglio, non c’è guarigione alle sue ferite.
4 Terror and violence make havoc of riches, similarly, desolation overtakes the houses of the proud.	4 Spavento e violenza disperdono la ricchezza, così la casa del superbo sarà devastata.
5 A plea from the mouth of the poor goes straight to the ear of God, whose judgement comes withoutdelay.	5 La preghiera del povero sale agli orecchi di Dio e il giudizio di lui sarà a suo favore.
6 Whoever resents reproof walks in the sinner's footsteps; whoever fears the Lord is repentant of heart.	6 Chi odia il rimprovero segue le orme del peccatore, ma chi teme il Signore si converte nel cuore.
7 The glib speaker is known far and wide, but the wary detects every slip.	7 Da lontano si conosce chi è abile nel parlare, ma l’assennato avverte quando inciampa.
8 To build your house with other people's money is like collecting stones for your own tomb.	8 Chi costruisce la sua casa con ricchezze altrui è come chi ammucchia pietre per il sepolcro.
9 A meeting of the lawless is like a heap of tow: they wil end in a blazing fire.	9 Ammasso di stoppa è una riunione di iniqui, la loro fine è una fiammata di fuoco.
10 The sinner's road is smoothly paved, but it ends at the pit of Sheol.	10 La via dei peccatori è ben lastricata, ma al suo termine c’è il baratro infernale.
11 Whoever keeps the Law wil master his instincts; the fear of the Lord is made perfect in wisdom.	11 Chi osserva la legge domina il suo istinto, il timore del Signore conduce alla sapienza.
12 No one who lacks aptitude can be taught, but certain aptitudes give rise to bitterness.	12 Chi non è perspicace non può essere istruito, ma c’è anche una perspicacia che riempie di amarezza.
13 The sage's knowledge is as rich as the abyss and his advice is like a living spring.	13 La scienza del saggio cresce come un diluvio e il suo consiglio è come sorgente di vita.
14 The heart of a fool is like a broken jar, it will not hold any knowledge.	14 L’intimo dello stolto è come un vaso frantumato, non può contenere alcuna scienza.
15 If the educated hears a wise saying, he praises it and caps it with another; if a debauchee hears it, hedoes not like it and tosses it behind his back.	15 Se un assennato ascolta un discorso intelligente, lo approva e vi aggiunge dell’altro; se l’ascolta un dissoluto, se ne dispiace e lo getta via, dietro le spalle.
16 The talk of a fool is like a load on a journey, but it is a pleasure to listen to the intelligent.	16 Le spiegazioni dello sciocco sono come un fardello nel cammino, ma il parlare del saggio reca diletto.
17 The utterance of the shrewd wil be eagerly awaited in the assembly, what he says wil be givenserious consideration.	17 La parola del prudente è ricercata nell’assemblea, sui suoi discorsi si riflette seriamente.
18 The wisdom of a fool is like the wreckage of a house, the knowledge of a dolt is incoherent talk.	18 Per lo stolto la sapienza è come casa in rovina, e la scienza dell’insensato è un insieme di parole astruse.
19 To the senseless fel ow instruction is like fetters on the feet, like manacles on the right hand.	19 Ceppi ai piedi è l’istruzione per l’insensato e come catene alla sua destra.
20 A fool laughs at the top of his voice, but the intel igent quietly smiles.	20 Lo stolto alza la sua voce quando ride, ma l’uomo saggio sorride appena sommessamente.
21 To the shrewd instruction is like a golden ornament, like a bracelet on the right arm.	21 Come ornamento d’oro è l’istruzione per chi ha senno, è come un monile al braccio destro.
22 The step of a fool goes straight into a house, but a person of much experience makes a respectfulapproach;	22 Il piede dello stolto entra subito in una casa, ma l’uomo prudente è rispettoso verso gli altri.
23 the stupid peeps inside through the door, a well-bred person waits outside.	23 Lo stolto spia dalla porta dentro una casa, l’uomo educato invece se ne sta fuori.
24 Listening at doors is a sign of bad upbringing, the perceptive would be ashamed to do so.	24 È cattiva educazione origliare alla porta, l’uomo prudente ne resterebbe confuso.
25 The lips of gossips repeat the words of others, the words of the wise are careful y weighed.	25 Le labbra degli stolti raccontano sciocchezze, ma le parole dei prudenti sono pesate sulla bilancia.
26 The heart of fools is in their mouth, but the mouth of the wise is in their heart.	26 Il cuore degli stolti sta sulla loro bocca, mentre bocca dei saggi è il loro cuore.
27 When the godless curses Satan, he is cursing himself.	27 Quando un empio maledice l’avversario, maledice se stesso.
28 The scandal-monger sul ies himself and earns the hatred of the neighbourhood.	28 Chi mormora diffama se stesso ed è detestato dal suo vicinato.
