Sirach 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 My child, have you sinned? Do so no more, and ask forgiveness for your previous faults.	1 Figliuolo, hai peccato? Non tornare a peccare, e per i [peccati] di prima prega che ti sian rimessi.
2 Flee from sin as from a snake, if you approach it, it wil bite you; its teeth are lion's teeth, they takehuman life away.	2 Fuggi dal peccato, come dalla faccia d'un serpente; se ti accosterai, ti morderà.
3 Al law-breaking is like a two-edged sword, the wounds it inflicts are beyond cure.	3 Denti di leone sono i tuoi denti, che tolgon la vita agli uomini.
4 Terror and violence make havoc of riches, similarly, desolation overtakes the houses of the proud.	4 Quasi spada a due tagli è ogni iniquità: alla sua ferita non c'è rimedio.
5 A plea from the mouth of the poor goes straight to the ear of God, whose judgement comes withoutdelay.	5 L'insolenza e l'ingiuria possono annientare una fortuna, e la casa più ricca sarà annientata dalla superbia: cosi la fortuna del superbo sarà sradicata.
6 Whoever resents reproof walks in the sinner's footsteps; whoever fears the Lord is repentant of heart.	6 La preghiera del povero [sale], dalla bocca [di costui], sino al suo orecchio, e il giudizio lo colpirà presto.
7 The glib speaker is known far and wide, but the wary detects every slip.	7 Chi odia la corruzione, {va] sulle orme del peccatore; e chi teme Dio, si convertirà in cuor suo.
8 To build your house with other people's money is like collecting stones for your own tomb.	8 Si conosce da lontano il potente per l'audacia della lingua, e l'uomo sensato sa sfuggirgli.
9 A meeting of the lawless is like a heap of tow: they wil end in a blazing fire.	9 Chi fabbrica la sua casa a spese d'altri, è come chi raccoglie le sue pietre per l'inverno.
10 The sinner's road is smoothly paved, but it ends at the pit of Sheol.	10 Una massa di stoppa è la truppa degli empi, e la loro fine una fiammata di fuoco.
11 Whoever keeps the Law wil master his instincts; the fear of the Lord is made perfect in wisdom.	11 La strada de' peccatori è lastricata di pietre, e al suo termine c'è [la fossa del] l'averno, le tenebre e i tormenti.
12 No one who lacks aptitude can be taught, but certain aptitudes give rise to bitterness.	12 Chi osserva la giustizia, tiene a freno il proprio spirito,
13 The sage's knowledge is as rich as the abyss and his advice is like a living spring.	13 e la perfezione del timor di Dio è la sapienza e il senno.
14 The heart of a fool is like a broken jar, it will not hold any knowledge.	14 Non acquisterà sapere chi non è prudente nel bene;
15 If the educated hears a wise saying, he praises it and caps it with another; if a debauchee hears it, hedoes not like it and tosses it behind his back.	15 ma v'è una prudenza che abbonda nel male, e non v'ha senno là dove c'è l'amarezza.
16 The talk of a fool is like a load on a journey, but it is a pleasure to listen to the intelligent.	16 il sapere del savio cresce come un'inondazione, e il suo consiglio rimane come una fonte di vita.
17 The utterance of the shrewd wil be eagerly awaited in the assembly, what he says wil be givenserious consideration.	17 cuore dello stolto è come un vaso fesso, e non può ritenere nessun sapere.
18 The wisdom of a fool is like the wreckage of a house, the knowledge of a dolt is incoherent talk.	18 Qualunque parola saggia che ascolti l'uomo intelligente, la loda e la fa sua; l'ascolta un libertino, e gli dispiace, e se la gitta dietro le spalle.
19 To the senseless fel ow instruction is like fetters on the feet, like manacles on the right hand.	19 Il racconto dello stolto è come un fardello per via; ma sulle labbra dell'uomo sensato si trova la grazia.
20 A fool laughs at the top of his voice, but the intel igent quietly smiles.	20 La bocca del prudente è ricercata nell'assemblea, e sulle sue parole rifletton [tutti] in cuor loro.
21 To the shrewd instruction is like a golden ornament, like a bracelet on the right arm.	21 Come una casa diroccata, così è la sapienza per lo stolto, e la scienza dell'insipiente son parole inintelligibili.
22 The step of a fool goes straight into a house, but a person of much experience makes a respectfulapproach;	22 [Quasi] ceppi a' piedi è l'istruzione per gli sciocchi, e quasi manette alla mano destra.
23 the stupid peeps inside through the door, a well-bred person waits outside.	23 Lo stolto, ridendo, alza la voce; ma l'uomo prudente sorride appena pian piano.
24 Listening at doors is a sign of bad upbringing, the perceptive would be ashamed to do so.	24 [Com'] un ornamento d'oro è l'istruzione per l'uomo prudente, e come un braccialetto al braccio destro.
25 The lips of gossips repeat the words of others, the words of the wise are careful y weighed.	25 Il piede dello stolto è pronto [a entrar] in casa d'altri, ma l'uomo sperimentato si perita in faccia al potente.
26 The heart of fools is in their mouth, but the mouth of the wise is in their heart.	26 L'insensato spia dalla finestra nella casa, ma l'uomo educato se ne sta fuori.
27 When the godless curses Satan, he is cursing himself.	27 È maleducazione da parte d'uno l'origliare alla porta, e il prudente sdegnerà [tale] infamia.
28 The scandal-monger sul ies himself and earns the hatred of the neighbourhood.	28 Le labbra degl'imprudenti buttan fuori sciocchezze, ma le parole de' prudenti saran pesate con la bilancia.
	29 In bocca degli stolti è il cuore loro, e nel cuore de' savi la loro bocca.
	30 Quando l'empio maledice il diavolo, maledice l'anima sua.
	31 Il mormoratore contamina se stesso, e si rende odioso a tutti. E chi si ferma con lui, sarà odiato; ma l'uomo che sa tacere e ha senno, sarà onorato.
