Sirach 16

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Do not long for a brood of worthless children, and do not take pleasure in godless sons.	1 Non ti rallegrare d'aver molti figlioli, se son cattivi, non te ne compiacere, se non hanno il timor di Dio.
2 However many you have, take no pleasure in them, unless the fear of the Lord lives among them.	2 Non confidar nella loro vita, non far assegnamento sulle loro fatiche.
3 Do not count on their having long life, do not put too much faith in their number; for better have onethan a thousand, better die childless than have children who are godless.	3 E' meglio avere un figliolo solo, ma timorato di Dio, che mille figlioli cattivi.
4 One person of sense can populate a city, but a race of lawless people will be destroyed.	4 Ed è meglio morir senza figlioli, che lasciarne degli empi.
5 My eyes have seen many such things, my ears have heard things even more impressive.	5 Uno solo, ma intelligente, popolerà la patria; la tribù degli empi sarà sterminata.
6 Fire is kindled in a sinful society, Retribution blazes in a rebel ious nation.	6 Molte di queste cose le han viste i miei occhi, e le mie orecchie ne han sentite maggiori di queste.
7 God did not pardon the giants of old who, confident in their strength, had rebel ed.	7 Il fuoco divamperà nell'adunanza dei peccatori, e l'ira scoppierà sopra la nazione incredula.
8 He did not spare the people with whom Lot lived; he abhorred them, rather, for their pride.	8 Non placarono Dio per i loro peccati gli antichi giganti, che furon distrutti perchè confidavano nella loro forza.
9 He was pitiless to the nation of perdition -- those people who gloried in their sins-	9 Dio non risparmiò quelli che abitavano con Lot, e li ebbe in esecrazione per la superbia delle loro parole.
10 as also to the six hundred thousand men on the march, who had banded together in their obstinacy.	10 Non ebbe compassione di loro, sterminò tutta quella nazione che si vantava dei suoi peccati.
11 And had there been only one man stubborn, it would have been amazing had he escaped unpunished,since mercy and wrath alike belong to the Lord who is mighty to forgive and to pour out wrath.	11 E lo stesso fu dei seicentomila uomini uniti nella durezza del loro cuore. E se ce ne fosse uno solo ostinato, sarebbe miracolo se andasse impunito.
12 As great as his mercy, so is his severity; he judges each person as his deeds deserve:	12 Perchè in Lui v'è la misericordia e l'ira, può placarsi e dare sfogo allo sdegno.
13 the sinner wil not escape with his il -gotten gains nor the patience of the devout go for nothing.	13 Come la sua misericordia è il suo castigo; giudica l'uomo secondo le sue opere.
14 He takes note of every charitable action, and everyone is treated as he deserves.	14 Non la scamperà il peccatore colle sue rapine, e l'attesa del misericordioso non sarà ritardata.
15	15 Ogni misericordia darà a ciascuno il posto secondo il merito delle sue opere e secondo il modo con cui ha inteso il suo pellegrinaggio.
16	16 Non dire: « Mi nasconderò a Dio, e chi di lassù si ricorderà di me?
17 Do not say, 'I shal hide from the Lord; who is going to remember me up there? I shall not be noticedamong so many people; what am I in the immensity of creation?'	17 In mezzo a tanto popolo non sarò riconosciuto; e che è l'anima mia in tanta immensità di creature? »
18 For see, the sky and the heavens above the sky, the abyss and the earth shake at his visitation.	18 Ecco, il cielo, e il cielo dei cieli, l'abisso, tutta la terra, e ciò che è in loro tremeranno alla sua presenza,
19 The mountains and earth's foundations alike quail and tremble when he looks at them.	19 e tutti i monti, e i colli e i fondamenti della terra, se Dio li rimira, tremeranno atterriti.
20 But to all this no one gives thought. Who keeps his movements in mind?	20 E dopo tutte queste cose il cuore è insensato, ma da lui son veduti tutti i cuori.
21 The storm wind itself is invisible, and most of what he does goes undetected.	21 E le sue vie chi le comprende? Come la procella, che l'occhio umano non vedrà mai?
22 'Who wil report whether justice has been done? Who wil be watching? The covenant is remote!'	22 Il più gran numero delle sue opere son nascoste, e lo opere della sua giustizia chi potrà spiegarle? chi sostenerle? Il patto è lungi da parecchi, ma alla fine si fa il giudizio di tutti.
23 Such are the thoughts of the person of little sense, stupid, misguided, cherishing his fol y.	23 Chi ha poco cuore pensa a cose vane, e l'uomo imprudente e fuor di strada pensa a follie.
24 Listen to me, my child, and learn knowledge, and give your whole mind to my words.	24 Ascoltami, o figlio, e impara gli insegnamenti della prudenza, stai attento con il tuo cuore alle mie parole.
25 I shal expound discipline methodically and proclaim knowledge with precision.	25 Dirò con ponderazione gl'insegnamenti, cercherò di spiegarti la sapienza. Stai attento con il tuo cuore alle mie parole, che dico coll'equità dello spirito le maraviglie che Dio ha sparse nelle sue opere fin da principio: secondo verità annunzio la scienza di Dio.
26 When God created his works in the beginning, he assigned them their places as soon as they weremade.	26 Secondo il giudizio di Dio furon fatte le sue opere da principio, e insieme coll'essere ne distinse le parti, e le principali secondo la loro specie.
27 He determined his works for al time, from their origins to their distant generations. They know neitherhunger nor weariness, and they never desert their duties.	27 Ordinò in eterno le loro operazioni: senza bisogno di ristoro, senza stancarsi, non hanno mai cessato d'agire.
28 Not one has ever got in the way of another, and they wil never disobey his word.	28 In eterno nessuna darà impaccio all'altra.
29 And afterwards the Lord looked at the earth, and filled it with his good things.	29 Non essere incredulo alla sua parola.
30 He covered its surface with every kind of animal, and to it they wil return.	30 Dopo di questo Dio mirò la terra e la ricolmò dei suoi beni.
	31 Ciò dimostrano tutti quelli che vivono sulla sua superfìcie, e di nuovo tornano alla terra.
