Sirach 16

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Do not long for a brood of worthless children, and do not take pleasure in godless sons.	1 Non desiderare molti figli buoni a nulla, non rallegrarti dei figli che sono empi.
2 However many you have, take no pleasure in them, unless the fear of the Lord lives among them.	2 Siano pur molti, non gioire se sono privi del timore del Signore.
3 Do not count on their having long life, do not put too much faith in their number; for better have onethan a thousand, better die childless than have children who are godless.	3 Non contare sulla loro giovane età e non confidare nel loro numero, perché tu gemerai per un dolore prematuro e d’improvviso conoscerai la loro fine; poiché è preferibile uno a mille e morire senza figli che averne di empi.
4 One person of sense can populate a city, but a race of lawless people will be destroyed.	4 La città sarà ripopolata per opera di un solo saggio, mentre la stirpe degli iniqui verrà distrutta.
5 My eyes have seen many such things, my ears have heard things even more impressive.	5 Il mio occhio ha visto molte cose simili, il mio orecchio ne ha sentite anche di più gravi.
6 Fire is kindled in a sinful society, Retribution blazes in a rebel ious nation.	6 Nell’assemblea dei peccatori un fuoco si accende, contro un popolo ribelle è divampata l’ira.
7 God did not pardon the giants of old who, confident in their strength, had rebel ed.	7 Egli non perdonò agli antichi giganti, che si erano ribellati per la loro forza.
8 He did not spare the people with whom Lot lived; he abhorred them, rather, for their pride.	8 Non risparmiò i concittadini di Lot, che egli aveva in orrore per la loro superbia.
9 He was pitiless to the nation of perdition -- those people who gloried in their sins-	9 Non ebbe pietà di un popolo maledetto, che fu scacciato per i suoi peccati. Tutto questo egli fece a nazioni dal cuore duro e per il numero dei suoi santi non fu consolato.
10 as also to the six hundred thousand men on the march, who had banded together in their obstinacy.	10 Così trattò i seicentomila fanti che avevano congiurato per la durezza del loro cuore. Flagellando, avendo pietà, percuotendo, guarendo, il Signore ha custodito nella pietà e nell’istruzione.
11 And had there been only one man stubborn, it would have been amazing had he escaped unpunished,since mercy and wrath alike belong to the Lord who is mighty to forgive and to pour out wrath.	11 Ci fosse anche un solo uomo di dura cervice, sarebbe inaudito se restasse impunito, poiché in lui c’è misericordia e ira, potente quando perdona e quando riversa la sua ira.
12 As great as his mercy, so is his severity; he judges each person as his deeds deserve:	12 Tanto grande è la sua misericordia, quanto grande il suo rimprovero; egli giudicherà l’uomo secondo le sue opere.
13 the sinner wil not escape with his il -gotten gains nor the patience of the devout go for nothing.	13 Non sfuggirà il peccatore con la sua preda, né la pazienza del giusto sarà delusa.
14 He takes note of every charitable action, and everyone is treated as he deserves.	14 Egli riconoscerà ogni atto di misericordia, ciascuno riceverà secondo le sue opere.
15	15 Il Signore ha indurito il faraone perché non lo riconoscesse, perché fossero note le sue opere sotto il cielo.
16	16 A tutta la creazione la sua misericordia è manifesta, ha dispensato la luce e le tenebre agli uomini.
17 Do not say, 'I shal hide from the Lord; who is going to remember me up there? I shall not be noticedamong so many people; what am I in the immensity of creation?'	17 Non dire: «Mi nasconderò al Signore! Lassù chi si ricorderà di me? Fra tanta gente non sarò riconosciuto, chi sarò io in mezzo a una creazione immensa?».
18 For see, the sky and the heavens above the sky, the abyss and the earth shake at his visitation.	18 Ecco il cielo e il cielo dei cieli, l’abisso e la terra sussultano quando egli appare. Tutto l’universo è stato creato ed esiste per la sua volontà.
19 The mountains and earth's foundations alike quail and tremble when he looks at them.	19 Anche i monti e le fondamenta della terra tremano di spavento quando egli li scruta.
20 But to all this no one gives thought. Who keeps his movements in mind?	20 Ma nessuno riflette su queste cose; al suo modo di agire chi presta attenzione?
21 The storm wind itself is invisible, and most of what he does goes undetected.	21 Come un uragano che l’uomo non vede, così molte sue opere sono nascoste.
22 'Who wil report whether justice has been done? Who wil be watching? The covenant is remote!'	22 «Chi annuncerà le sue opere di giustizia? O chi aspetterà? L’alleanza infatti è ancora lontana, e il rendiconto di tutto sarà solo alla fine».
23 Such are the thoughts of the person of little sense, stupid, misguided, cherishing his fol y.	23 Queste cose pensa chi ha il cuore meschino; lo stolto, che si lascia ingannare, pensa sciocchezze.
24 Listen to me, my child, and learn knowledge, and give your whole mind to my words.	24 Ascoltami, figlio, e impara la scienza, e nel tuo cuore tieni conto delle mie parole.
25 I shal expound discipline methodically and proclaim knowledge with precision.	25 Manifesterò con ponderazione la dottrina, con cura annuncerò la scienza.
26 When God created his works in the beginning, he assigned them their places as soon as they weremade.	26 Quando il Signore da principio creò le sue opere, dopo averle fatte ne distinse le parti.
27 He determined his works for al time, from their origins to their distant generations. They know neitherhunger nor weariness, and they never desert their duties.	27 Ordinò per sempre le sue opere e il loro dominio per le generazioni future. Non soffrono né fame né stanchezza e non interrompono il loro lavoro.
28 Not one has ever got in the way of another, and they wil never disobey his word.	28 Nessuna di loro urta la sua vicina, mai disubbidiranno alla sua parola.
29 And afterwards the Lord looked at the earth, and filled it with his good things.	29 Dopo ciò il Signore guardò alla terra e la riempì dei suoi beni.
30 He covered its surface with every kind of animal, and to it they wil return.	30 Ne coprì la superficie con ogni specie di viventi e questi ad essa faranno ritorno.
