Sirach 16

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Do not long for a brood of worthless children, and do not take pleasure in godless sons.	1 No desees un gran número de hijos inútiles ni se alegres de los hijos impíos.
2 However many you have, take no pleasure in them, unless the fear of the Lord lives among them.	2 Por muchos que sean, no te alegres de ellos, si les falta el temor del Señor.
3 Do not count on their having long life, do not put too much faith in their number; for better have onethan a thousand, better die childless than have children who are godless.	3 No esperes que vivan mucho tiempo ni te sientas seguro porque son numerosos: vale más uno solo que mil y es mejor morir sin hijos que tenerlos impíos.
4 One person of sense can populate a city, but a race of lawless people will be destroyed.	4 Con uno solo inteligente se puebla una ciudad, pero la estirpe de los hombres sin ley es arrasada.
5 My eyes have seen many such things, my ears have heard things even more impressive.	5 Mis ojos han visto muchas cosas semejantes y cosas peores aún escucharon mis oídos.
6 Fire is kindled in a sinful society, Retribution blazes in a rebel ious nation.	6 En la reunión de los pecadores arde el fuego y contra la nación rebelde se enciende la ira.
7 God did not pardon the giants of old who, confident in their strength, had rebel ed.	7 El Señor no perdonó a los antiguos gigantes que se rebelaron con toda su fuerza.
8 He did not spare the people with whom Lot lived; he abhorred them, rather, for their pride.	8 No dejó sin castigo a la ciudad donde vivía Lot, a los que abominaba a causa de su orgullo.
9 He was pitiless to the nation of perdition -- those people who gloried in their sins-	9 No se apiadó de la nación condenada al exterminio. de los que fueron expulsado a causa de sus pecados.
10 as also to the six hundred thousand men on the march, who had banded together in their obstinacy.	10 Así trató también a los seiscientos mil soldados que se amotinaron por la dureza de su corazón.
11 And had there been only one man stubborn, it would have been amazing had he escaped unpunished,since mercy and wrath alike belong to the Lord who is mighty to forgive and to pour out wrath.	11 Aunque fuera uno solo el hombre obstinado, sería un milagro que quedara impune, porque en él está la misericordia, pero también la ira, es tan fuera para el perdón como pródigo para la ira.
12 As great as his mercy, so is his severity; he judges each person as his deeds deserve:	12 Tan grande como su misericordia es su reprobación: él juzga a cada uno según sus obras.
13 the sinner wil not escape with his il -gotten gains nor the patience of the devout go for nothing.	13 El pecador no escapará con su presa ni será defraudada la constancia de los buenos.
14 He takes note of every charitable action, and everyone is treated as he deserves.	14 El tiene en cuenta cada limosna y cada uno recibirá conforme a sus obras.
15	15 [El Señor endureció al Faraón para que no lo reconociera a fin de dar a conocer sus obras bajo el cielo.]
16	16 [Su misericordia se manifiesta a toda la creación; su luz y su oscuridad las repartió a los hijos de Adán.]
17 Do not say, 'I shal hide from the Lord; who is going to remember me up there? I shall not be noticedamong so many people; what am I in the immensity of creation?'	17 No digas: «Me ocultaré del Señor, y allá en lo alto, ¿quién se acordará de mí? Entre tanta gente pasaré inadvertido: ¿quién soy yo en la inmensa creación?».
18 For see, the sky and the heavens above the sky, the abyss and the earth shake at his visitation.	18 Mira: el cielo y lo más alto del cielo, el Abismo y la tierra se conmueven cuando él los visita:
19 The mountains and earth's foundations alike quail and tremble when he looks at them.	19 las montañas junto con los cimientos de la tierra tiemblan de espanto bajo su mirada.
20 But to all this no one gives thought. Who keeps his movements in mind?	20 Pero no se reflexiona en estas cosas ¿y quién presta atención a sus designios?
21 The storm wind itself is invisible, and most of what he does goes undetected.	21 Como una tempestad que se desata sin que el hombre se dé cuenta, así la mayoría de sus obras permanecen ocultas.
22 'Who wil report whether justice has been done? Who wil be watching? The covenant is remote!'	22 «¿Quién anuncia las obras de justicia? ¿Quién las espera? Porque la alianza está lejos»:
23 Such are the thoughts of the person of little sense, stupid, misguided, cherishing his fol y.	23 así razona el que no tiene entendimiento; el insensato, el extraviado, sólo piensa necedades.
24 Listen to me, my child, and learn knowledge, and give your whole mind to my words.	24 Escucha, hijo mío, e instrúyete, presta mucha atención a mis palabras.
25 I shal expound discipline methodically and proclaim knowledge with precision.	25 Revelaré mi enseñanza con mesura y expondré la ciencia con exactitud.
26 When God created his works in the beginning, he assigned them their places as soon as they weremade.	26 Por decisión del Señor existen sus obras desde el principio: desde que fueron hechas, él fijó sus límites.
27 He determined his works for al time, from their origins to their distant generations. They know neitherhunger nor weariness, and they never desert their duties.	27 El ordenó sus obras para siempre, y su gobierno por todas las generaciones. Ellas no sufren hambre ni se fatigan y nunca interrumpen su actividad.
28 Not one has ever got in the way of another, and they wil never disobey his word.	28 No se chocan unas contra otras y jamás desobedecen a su palabra.
29 And afterwards the Lord looked at the earth, and filled it with his good things.	29 Luego el Señor fijó sus ojos en la tierra y la colmó de sus bienes.
30 He covered its surface with every kind of animal, and to it they wil return.	30 La cubrió con toda clase de vivientes y todos volverán a ella.
