Proverbs 6

1 My child, if you have gone surety for your neighbour, if you have guaranteed the bond of a stranger,	1 - Figliuolo mio, se hai fatto sicurtà pel tuo amico, hai impegnato la mano presso un estraneo,
2 if you have committed yourself with your lips, if through words of yours you have been entrapped,	2 ti sei vincolato colle parole della tua bocca e obbligato colle tue stesse profferte.
3 do this, my child, to extricate yourself -- since you have put yourself in the power of your neighbour: go,humble yourself, plead with your neighbour,	3 Fa' dunque quel che ti dico, o figliuolo mio, e libera te stesso, giacchè sei caduto nelle mani del tuo prossimo. Va', corri, affrettati, scuoti il tuo amico;
4 give your eyes no sleep, your eyelids no rest,	4 Non dare riposo agli occhi tuoi, non sonnecchino le tue palpebre;
5 break free like a gazel e from the trap, like a bird from the fowler's clutches.	5 svincolati, come un daino, da chi l'ha preso, e come uccello di mano all'uccellatore.
6 Idler, go to the ant; ponder her ways and grow wise:	6 Va', pigro, dalla formica, considera le sue vie e impara a esser saggio.
7 no one gives her orders, no overseer, no master,	7 Essa, senza avere nè duce, nè istruttore, nè principe,
8 yet al through the summer she gets her food ready, and gathers her supplies at harvest time.	8 prepara nell'estate il suo sostentamento e nel tempo della mèsse raccoglie da mangiare.
9 How long do you intend to lie there, idler? When are you going to rise from your sleep?	9 Infino a quando, o pigro, dormirai? quand'è che t'alzerai dal tuo sonno?
10 A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back,	10 Un po' dormi, un po' sonnecchi, un po' tieni le mani in mano per riposare;
11 and poverty comes like a vagrant and, like a beggar, dearth.	11 e intanto la povertà ti raggiunge, come un viandante, e l'indigenza, come un uomo armato. Ma se tu sarai solerte, verrà come una sorgente la tua mèsse e l'indigenza fuggirà lungi da te.
12 A scoundrel, a vicious man, he goes with a leer on his lips,	12 Un rinnegato, un uomo che non è niente di buono, procede con bocca perversa;
13 winking his eye, shuffling his foot, beckoning with his finger.	13 ammicca cogli occhi, tenta col piede, parla col dito;
14 Trickery in his heart, always scheming evil, he sows dissension.	14 nel cattivo suo cuore, macchina il male e in ogni tempo semina discordie.
15 Disaster wil overtake him sharply for this, suddenly, irretrievably, he wil be broken.	15 Verrà sopra costui improvvisamente la sua rovinasi schianterà d'un colpo senza più rimedio.
16 There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that he abhors:	16 Sono sei cose che il Signore odia, e la settima è in esecrazione all'anima sua:
17 a haughty look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,	17 occhi alteri, lingua bugiarda, mani spargitrici di sangue innocente,
18 a heart that weaves wicked plots, feet that hurry to do evil,	18 cuore che macchina disegni iniqui, piedi veloci a correre al male,
19 a false witness who lies with every breath, and one who sows dissension among brothers.	19 chi proferisce menzogne in falso testimonio, e colui che semina discordie tra i fratelli.
20 Keep your father's precept, my child, do not spurn your mother's teaching.	20 Fa' tesoro, o figliuolo mio, dei precetti di tuo padre e non lasciare la legge di tua madre.
21 Bind them ever to your heart, tie them round your neck.	21 Tienli legati sopra il tuo cuore sempre e annodali al tuo collo.
22 While you are active, they will guide you, when you fal asleep, they wil watch over you, when youwake up, they will converse with you.	22 Quando viaggi camminino teco, quando dormi ti custodiscano, e vegliando intrattienti con essi.
23 For the precept is a lamp, the teaching is a light; correction and discipline are the way to life,	23 Perchè lampada è il precetto e luce la legge e strada di vita è la correzione della disciplina.
24 preserving you from the woman of bad character, from the wheedling talk of a woman who belongs toanother.	24 Per guardarti dalla donna malvagia e dalla lusingatrice lingua dell'avventuriera.
25 Do not covet her beauty in your heart or let her captivate you with the play of her eyes;	25 Il tuo cuore non vagheggi la sua bellezzanon lasciarti prendere dai suoi cenni.
26 a prostitute can be bought for a hunk of bread, but a married woman aims to snare a precious life.	26 Perchè il prezzo di una cortigiana è d'un pane appena, mentre la donna di partito fa preda di un'anima preziosa.
27 Can a man carry fire inside his shirt without setting his clothes alight?	27 Può forse un uomo tenersi del fuoco in senosenza che brucino le sue vesti?
28 Can you walk on red-hot coals without burning your feet?	28 o camminare sulle bracisenza scottarsi le piante?
29 Just so, the man who makes love to his neighbour's wife: no one who touches her wil get offunpunished.	29 Così chi frequenta la donna altrui; non sarà netto se l'avrà toccata.
30 People attach but little blame to a thief who steals only to satisfy his hunger;	30 Non è gran colpa se uno ha rubato, quando ruba per empirsi il ventre, avendo fame;
31 yet even he, if caught, wil have to repay sevenfold and hand over all his family resources.	31 anche colto, restituirà sette tanti; darà magari tutta la sostanza di casa sua.
32 But the adulterer has no sense; he works his own destruction.	32 Ma l'adultero, per la sua insensataggine, perderà la sua anima.
33 All he wil get is blows and contempt, and dishonour never to be blotted out.	33 Egli raccoglierà disonore e vergogna e la sua infamia non si cancellerà.
34 For jealousy inflames the husband who wil show no mercy when the day comes for revenge;	34 Perchè la gelosia furibonda del marito non gliela risparmierà nel dì della vendetta;
35 he wil not consider any compensation; lavish what gifts you may, he wil not be placated.	35 non si acquieterà alle preghiere di nessuno, nè accetterà ammenda di doni per quanto numerosi.
