Proverbs 6

1 My child, if you have gone surety for your neighbour, if you have guaranteed the bond of a stranger,	1 Figliuol mio, se tu sei entrato mallevadore pel tuo amico, tu hai impegnata la tua mano con uno straniero
2 if you have committed yourself with your lips, if through words of yours you have been entrapped,	2 Ti se' legato mediante le parole della tua bocca, e il tuo parlare è stato il tuo laccio.
3 do this, my child, to extricate yourself -- since you have put yourself in the power of your neighbour: go,humble yourself, plead with your neighbour,	3 Fa pertanto, figliuol mio, quello, ch'io dico: e libera te stesso, perocché tu se' caduto nelle mani del prossimo tuo: corri in questa, e in quella parte, affrettati, sveglia il tuo amico,
4 give your eyes no sleep, your eyelids no rest,	4 Non lasciar prendere dal sonno i tuoi occhi, e non assonnino le tue pupille:
5 break free like a gazel e from the trap, like a bird from the fowler's clutches.	5 Scappa come un daino dal laccio, e come un uccello dalla mano dell'uccellatore.
6 Idler, go to the ant; ponder her ways and grow wise:	6 Va, o pigro dalla formica, e il fare di lei considera, e impara ad esser saggio:
7 no one gives her orders, no overseer, no master,	7 Ella senza aver condottiero, né precettore, né principe,
8 yet al through the summer she gets her food ready, and gathers her supplies at harvest time.	8 Prepara nell'estate il suo sostentamento, e al tempo della messe raccoglie il suo mangiare.
9 How long do you intend to lie there, idler? When are you going to rise from your sleep?	9 Fino a quando, o pigro, dormirai tu? quando ti sveglierai dal tuo sonno?
10 A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back,	10 Un pochetto dormirai, un pochetto assonnerai, un pochetto stropiccerai una mano coll'altra per riposarti;
11 and poverty comes like a vagrant and, like a beggar, dearth.	11 E l'indigenza verrà a te come un ladrone, e la povertà come un uomo armato. Ma se tu sarai diligente, le tue ricolte saranno come una sorgente (perenne), e anderà lungi da te la miseria.
12 A scoundrel, a vicious man, he goes with a leer on his lips,	12 L'uomo apostata, creatura non buona a nulla, ha per uso una bocca perversa,
13 winking his eye, shuffling his foot, beckoning with his finger.	13 Ammicca cogli occhi; preme col piede, parla colle dita,
14 Trickery in his heart, always scheming evil, he sows dissension.	14 Nel cattivo suo cuore macchina iniquità, e in ogni tempo semina discordie:
15 Disaster wil overtake him sharply for this, suddenly, irretrievably, he wil be broken.	15 Verrà sopra di lui repentinamente la sua perdizione, e subitamente sarà percosso, né vi sarà più per lui medicina.
16 There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that he abhors:	16 Sei sono le cose, che il Signore ha in odio, e la settima è all'anima di lui in esecrazione:
17 a haughty look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,	17 Gli occhi altieri, la lingua bugiarda, le mani che spargono il sangue innocente,
18 a heart that weaves wicked plots, feet that hurry to do evil,	18 Il cuore che macchina perversi disegni, i piedi veloci a correre al male,
19 a false witness who lies with every breath, and one who sows dissension among brothers.	19 Il testimone falso che spaccia menzogne, e colui che tra' fratelli semina discordie.
20 Keep your father's precept, my child, do not spurn your mother's teaching.	20 Figliuol mio, fa conserva de' precetti del padre tuo, e non metter da parte la legge della tua madre:
21 Bind them ever to your heart, tie them round your neck.	21 Imprimili per sempre nel tuo cuore, e fanne collana al tuo collo.
22 While you are active, they will guide you, when you fal asleep, they wil watch over you, when youwake up, they will converse with you.	22 Teco vengano per viaggio, nel dormire ti custodiscano, e con essi confabula quando ti svegli:
23 For the precept is a lamp, the teaching is a light; correction and discipline are the way to life,	23 Imperocché il comandamento è una lampana, e la legge è luce, è la correzione della disciplina è strada di vita.
24 preserving you from the woman of bad character, from the wheedling talk of a woman who belongs toanother.	24 Elle ti salveranno dalla donna malvaggia, e dalla lingua adulatrice di donna straniera.
25 Do not covet her beauty in your heart or let her captivate you with the play of her eyes;	25 Il tuo cuore non desideri la sua bellezza, e non lasciarti prendere da' suoi sguardi:
26 a prostitute can be bought for a hunk of bread, but a married woman aims to snare a precious life.	26 Perocché una tal donna vale a mala pena il prezzo di un pane; e questa donna fa preda dell'anima preziosa d'un uomo.
27 Can a man carry fire inside his shirt without setting his clothes alight?	27 Può egli un uomo nascondersi in seno il fuoco, senza che si abbrucino le sue vesti?
28 Can you walk on red-hot coals without burning your feet?	28 Ovver camminare sopra gli accesi carboni, senza scottarsi i suoi piedi.
29 Just so, the man who makes love to his neighbour's wife: no one who touches her wil get offunpunished.	29 Cosi chi s'appressa alla donna altrui, non sarà mondo quando l'avrà toccata.
30 People attach but little blame to a thief who steals only to satisfy his hunger;	30 Non è gran peccato, che uno rubi, mentre ruba per empire l'affamato suo ventre:
31 yet even he, if caught, wil have to repay sevenfold and hand over all his family resources.	31 E scoperto ch'ei sia renderà anche il settuplo, e darà tutto quel, che ha in sua casa.
32 But the adulterer has no sense; he works his own destruction.	32 Ma l'adultero per la sua insensataggine manderà in rovina l'anima sua:
33 All he wil get is blows and contempt, and dishonour never to be blotted out.	33 Egli si va accumulando obbrobri, e ignominie, e la sua infamia non sarà mai scancellata:
34 For jealousy inflames the husband who wil show no mercy when the day comes for revenge;	34 Perocché la gelosia, e il furor del marito noi risparmierà nel giorno della vendetta,
35 he wil not consider any compensation; lavish what gifts you may, he wil not be placated.	35 Né si placherà alle preghiere di chicchessia, né accetterà in compenso i doni anche in gran numero.
