Proverbs 22

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.	1 Bom renome vale mais que grandes riquezas; a boa reputação vale mais que a prata e o ouro.
2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.	2 Rico e pobre se encontram: foi o Senhor que criou a ambos.
3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	3 O homem prudente percebe a aproximação do mal e se abriga, mas os imprudentes passam adiante e recebem o dano.
4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.	4 O prêmio da humildade é o temor do Senhor, a riqueza, a honra e a vida.
5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.	5 Espinhos e laços há no caminho do perverso; quem guarda sua vida retira-se para longe deles.
6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.	6 Ensina à criança o caminho que ela deve seguir; mesmo quando envelhecer, dele não se há de afastar.
7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.	7 O rico domina os pobres: o que toma emprestado torna-se escravo daquele que lhe emprestou.
8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.	8 Aquele que semeia o mal, recolhe o tormento: a vara de sua ira o ferirá.
9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.	9 O homem benevolente será abençoado porque tira do seu pão para o pobre.
10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.	10 Expulsa o mofador e cessará a discórdia: ultrajes e litígios cessarão.
11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.	11 Quem ama a pureza do coração, pela graça dos seus lábios, é amigo do rei.
12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.	12 Os olhos do Senhor protegem a sabedoria, mas arruínam as palavras do pérfido.
13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'	13 Há um leão do lado de fora!, diz o preguiçoso, eu poderei ser morto na rua!
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.	14 A boca das meretrizes é uma cova profunda; nela cairá aquele contra o qual o Senhor se irar.
15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.	15 A loucura apega-se ao coração da criança; a vara da disciplina afastá-la-á dela.
16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.	16 Quem oprime o pobre, enriquece-o. Quem dá ao rico, empobrece-o.
17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,	17 Presta atenção às minhas palavras, aplica teu coração à minha doutrina,
18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.	18 porque é agradável que as guardes dentro de teu coração e que elas permaneçam, todas, presentes em teus lábios.
19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.	19 É para que o Senhor seja tua confiança, que quero instruir-te hoje.
20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,	20 Desde muito tempo eu te escrevi conselhos e instruções,
21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?	21 para te ensinar a verdade das coisas certas, para que respondas certo àquele que te indaga.
22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,	22 Não despojes o pobre, porque é pobre, não oprimas o fraco à porta da cidade,
23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.	23 porque o Senhor pleiteará sua causa e tirará a vida aos que os despojaram.
24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,	24 Não faças amizade com um homem colérico, não andes com o violento,
25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.	25 há o perigo de que aprendas os seus costumes e prepares um laço fatal.
26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:	26 Não sejas daqueles que se obrigam, apertando a mão, e se fazem fiadores de dívidas;
27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.	27 se não tens com que pagar, arrebatar-te-ão teu leito debaixo de ti.
28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.	28 Não passes além dos marcos antigos que puseram teus pais.
29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.	29 Viste um homem hábil em sua obra? Ele entrará ao serviço dos reis, e não ficará entre gente obscura.
