Proverbs 22

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.	1 Un nome famoso val più di molta ricchezza e la reputazione più dell'argento e l'oro.
2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.	2 Il ricco e il povero s'incontrano insieme: il Signore li ha fatti entrambi.
3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	3 L'uomo assennato vede la disgrazia e si mette al riparo; i semplici vi passano accanto e ci cascano.
4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.	4 Frutto dell'umiltà è il timor del Signore, la ricchezza, la gloria e la vita.
5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.	5 Spine e lacci sulla strada del perverso; chi ha cura di sé ne sta lontano.
6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.	6 Istruisci il giovane sulla via da seguire; anche da vecchio non se ne allontanerà.
7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.	7 Il ricco domina sui poveri e il debitore è schiavo del creditore.
8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.	8 Chi semina iniquità raccoglie disgrazia e la verga della sua collera colpisce lui stesso.
9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.	9 L'occhio benevolo sarà benedetto, perché ha dato del suo pane al povero.
10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.	10 Scaccia il beffardo e la discordia se ne andrà e cesseranno lite e insulto.
11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.	11 Chi ama la purezza di cuore e ha la grazia sulle labbra, il re è suo amico.
12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.	12 Gli occhi del Signore proteggono la scienza, ma egli confonde le parole del bugiardo.
13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'	13 Dice il pigro: "C'è il leone fuori! Sulla strada sarò sbranato!".
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.	14 Fossa profonda è la bocca della donna altrui; colui che il Signore riprova vi cadrà.
15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.	15 La stoltezza è legata al cuor del giovane: la verga del castigo lo allontana da lei.
16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.	16 Chi opprime il povero lo fa ricco; chi dà al ricco, solamente impoverisce.
17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,	17 Tendi l'orecchio e ascolta le parole dei sapienti, applica il tuo cuore perché tu le comprenda!
18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.	18 Son deliziose se le custodisci nel tuo seno, se resteranno insieme sopra le tue labbra.
19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.	19 Affinché sia il Signore la tua fiducia, voglio istruirti oggi intorno alla tua via.
20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,	20 Non ho scritto per te trenta parole, riguardanti consigli e conoscenza,
21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?	21 perché tu possa far conoscere la verità, rispondere a coloro che ti interrogano?
22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,	22 Non spogliare il povero, perché è povero e non opprimere alla porta l'infelice,
23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.	23 perché il Signore difenderà la loro causa e rapirà la vita ai loro aggressori.
24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,	24 Non diventare amico di un infuriato e non frequentare l'iracondo,
25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.	25 perché tu non impari i suoi costumi e non ci trovi un laccio alla tua vita.
26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:	26 Non essere di quelli che offrono la destra, che si fanno garanti per i debiti:
27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.	27 se tu non hai da rendere, ti toglieranno anche il letto di sotto.
28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.	28 Non spostare il vecchio confine che posero i tuoi padri.
29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.	29 Tu vedi un uomo svelto al suo lavoro? Starà alla presenza dei sovrani. Non starà più davanti a gente oscura.
