Proverbs 22

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.	1 Un buon nome è preferibile a grandi ricchezze e la benevolenza altrui vale più dell’argento e dell’oro.
2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.	2 Il ricco e il povero s’incontrano in questo: il Signore ha creato l’uno e l’altro.
3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	3 L’accorto vede il pericolo e si nasconde, gli inesperti vanno avanti e la pagano.
4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.	4 Frutti dell’umiltà sono il timore di Dio, la ricchezza, l’onore e la vita.
5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.	5 Spine e tranelli sono sulla via del perverso; chi ha cura di se stesso se ne tiene lontano.
6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.	6 Indirizza il giovane sulla via da seguire; neppure da vecchio se ne allontanerà.
7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.	7 Il ricco domina sul povero e chi riceve prestiti è schiavo del suo creditore.
8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.	8 Chi semina ingiustizia raccoglie miseria e il bastone che usa nella sua collera svanirà.
9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.	9 Chi è generoso sarà benedetto, perché egli dona del suo pane al povero.
10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.	10 Scaccia lo spavaldo e la discordia se ne andrà: cesseranno i litigi e gli insulti.
11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.	11 Chi ama la schiettezza del cuore e la benevolenza sulle labbra, sarà amico del re.
12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.	12 Gli occhi del Signore custodiscono la scienza: in tal modo egli confonde le parole del perfido.
13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'	13 Il pigro dice: «C’è un leone là fuori: potrei essere ucciso in mezzo alla strada».
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.	14 La bocca delle straniere è una fossa profonda: vi cade colui che è in ira al Signore.
15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.	15 La stoltezza è legata al cuore del fanciullo, ma il bastone della correzione l’allontana da lui.
16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.	16 Chi opprime il povero non fa che arricchirlo, chi dà a un ricco non fa che impoverirsi.
17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,	17 Porgi l’orecchio e ascolta le parole dei sapienti, applica la tua mente alla mia istruzione:
18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.	18 ti saranno piacevoli se le custodirai nel tuo intimo, se le terrai pronte sulle tue labbra.
19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.	19 Perché sia riposta nel Signore la tua fiducia, oggi le faccio conoscere a te.
20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,	20 Ecco, ho scritto per te trenta massime, in materia di consigli e di saggezza,
21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?	21 perché tu sappia riferire in modo conveniente parole di verità e possa riportarle a quelli che ti mandano.
22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,	22 Non depredare il povero perché egli è povero, e non affliggere il misero in tribunale,
23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.	23 perché il Signore difenderà la loro causa e spoglierà della vita coloro che li hanno spogliati.
24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,	24 Non ti associare a un collerico e non praticare un uomo iracondo,
25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.	25 per non abituarti alle sue maniere e procurarti una trappola per la tua vita.
26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:	26 Non essere di quelli che danno la mano e si fanno garanti dei debiti altrui,
27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.	27 perché, se poi non avrai da pagare, si dovrebbe togliere il letto di sotto a te.
28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.	28 Non spostare il confine antico, che è stato posto dai tuoi padri.
29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.	29 Hai visto un uomo sollecito nel lavoro? Egli starà al servizio del re e non al servizio di gente oscura!
