Proverbs 22

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.	1 Más vale buen nombre que muchas riquezas, y mejor es favor que plata y oro.
2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.	2 El rico y el pobre se encuentran, a los dos los hizo Yahveh.
3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	3 El hombre precavido ve el mal y se esconde, los simples pasan y reciben castigo.
4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.	4 Premio de la humildad, el temor de Yahveh, la riqueza, el honor y la vida.
5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.	5 Espinas y lazos en la senda del malo, el que cuida de su vida, se aleja de ellos.
6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.	6 Instruye al joven según sus disposiciones, que luego, de viejo, no se apartará de ellas.
7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.	7 El rico domina a los pobres, el deudor es esclavo de su acreedor.
8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.	8 Quien siembra injusticia cosecha miserias y la vara de su cólera desaparecerá.
9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.	9 El de buena intención será bendito, porque da de su pan al débil.
10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.	10 Expulsa al arrogante y se irá el litigio, y pleitos e injurias cesarán.
11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.	11 El que ama los corazones puros, el de gracia en los labios, es amigo del rey.
12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.	12 Los ojos de Yahveh custodian la ciencia, pero confunden las palabras del pérfido.
13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'	13 El perezoso dice: «Hay fuera un león; voy a ser muerto en medio de la calle».
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.	14 Fosa profunda la boca de las mujeres ajenas: aquel contra el que Yahveh se aíra, caerá en ella.
15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.	15 La necedad está enraizada en el corazón del joven, la vara de la instrucción lo alejará de ella.
16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.	16 El que oprime a un débil, lo engrandece; el que da a un rico, llega a empobrecerlo.
17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,	17 Presta oído y escucha las palabras de los sabios, y aplica tu corazón a mi ciencia,
18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.	18 porque te será dulce guardarlas en tu seno, y tener todas a punto en tus labios.
19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.	19 Para que esté en Yahveh tu confianza también a ti hoy te enseñaré.
20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,	20 ¿No he escrito para ti treinta capítulos de consejos y ciencia,
21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?	21 para hacerte conocer la certeza de las palabras verdaderas, y puedas responder palabras verdaderas a quien te envíe?
22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,	22 No despojes al débil, porque es débil, y no aplastes al desdichado en la puerta,
23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.	23 porque Yahveh defenderá su causa y despojará de la vida a los despojadores.
24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,	24 No tomes por compañero a un hombre airado, ni vayas con un hombre violento,
25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.	25 no sea que aprendas sus senderos, y te encuentres con un lazo para tu vida.
26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:	26 No seas de los que chocan la mano, y salen fiadores de préstamos:
27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.	27 porque si no tienes con qué pagar, te tomarán el lecho en que te acuestas.
28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.	28 No desplaces el lindero antiguo que tus padres pusieron.
29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.	29 ¿Has visto un hombre hábil en su oficio? Se colocará al servicio de los reyes. No quedará al servicio de gentes oscuras.
