Proverbs 22

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.	1 Vale más el buen nombre que las muchas riquezas, y ser estimado vale más que la plata y el oro.
2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.	2 El rico y el pobre tienen esto en común: el Señor los hizo a los dos.
3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	3 El hombre precavido ve el mal y se esconde, los incautos siguen adelante y la pagan.
4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.	4 Premio de la humildad son el temor del Señor, la riqueza, el honor y la vida.
5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.	5 Hay espinas y trampas en el camino del hombre tortuoso: el que cuida de sí mismo se aparta de ellas.
6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.	6 Inicia al niño en el camino que debe seguir, y ni siquiera en su vejez se apartará de él.
7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.	7 El rico domina a los pobres y el deudor es esclavo del acreedor.
8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.	8 El que siembra injusticia cosechará desgracias y la vara de su furor lo aniquilará.
9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.	9 El hombre generoso será bendecido, porque comparte su pan con el pobre.
10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.	10 Echa al insolente y cesará la pelea: no habrá más discordias ni insultos.
11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.	11 El que ama la pureza del corazón y habla con gracia, tiene al rey por amigo.
12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.	12 Los ojos del Señor vigilan la ciencia, y él confunde las palabras del traidor.
13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'	13 El perezoso dice: «Afuera hay un león, voy a ser ultimado en medio de la calle».
14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.	14 Fosa profunda es la boca de las mujeres ajenas: el que irrita al Señor caerá en ella.
15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.	15 La necedad está adherida al corazón del joven: la vara de la corrección la alejará de él.
16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.	16 El que explota al débil para engrandecerse tendrá que dar al rico y acabará en la indigencia.
17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,	17 Palabras de los sabios. Inclina tu oído, escucha mis palabras, y presta atención a mi experiencia:
18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.	18 será una delicia conservarlas dentro de ti y tenerlas siempre a punto sobre tus labios.
19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.	19 Para que pongas tu confianza en el Señor, hoy te voy a instruir también a ti.
20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,	20 ¿Acaso no te he escrito treinta discursos, que contienen consejos e instrucciones,
21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?	21 para hacerte conocer con exactitud las palabras verdaderas, y así puedas responder fielmente al que te envía?
22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,	22 No robes al débil porque es débil, ni atropelles al pobre en la puerta de la ciudad,
23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.	23 porque el Señor defenderá su causa, y a los que lo despojan, los despojará de la vida.
24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,	24 No te juntes con un hombre irascible ni vayas con un hombre iracundo,
25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.	25 no sea que aprendas sus costumbres y te pongas una trampa a ti mismo.
26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:	26 No seas de los que estrechan la mano, de los que salen fiadores por una deuda:
27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.	27 si no tienes con qué pagar, te quitarán el lecho donde te acuestas.
28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.	28 No desplaces los linderos antiguos, esos que colocaron tus padres.
29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.	29 ¿Ves a un hombre hábil en su oficio? El se presentará delante de los reyes y no estará al servicio de gente mediocre.
