Proverbs 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:	1 Sentenze di Salomone, figlio di David, re d'Israele, I.
2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,	2 per conoscere la sapienza e la disciplina,
3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;	3 per capire le parole della prudenza, per ricevere l'istruzione della dottrina, la giustizia, il giudizio, l'equità,
4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;	4 in modo che i piccoli diventino accorti e i giovanetti abbiano conoscenza e riflessione.
5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.	5 Il saggio ascoltando diventerà più saggio, e l'intelligente possederà il modo di regolarsi,
6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.	6 comprenderà le sentenze e le loro interpretazioni, le parole dei saggi e i loro enimrni.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.	7 Il timor del Signore è il principio della sapienza; gli stolti disprezzano la sapienza e la dottrina.
8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:	8 Ascolta, o figlio, le istruzioni di tuo padre, e non dimenticare gl'insegnamenti di tua madre,
9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.	9 e avrai sul capo una corona e al collo una collana.
10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.	10 Figlio mio, se i cattivi ti volessero sedurre, non cedere.
11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,	11 Se dicono: « Vien con noi, insidiamo alla vita, tendiamo lacci all'innocente, che a nulla vale,
12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.	12 ingoiamolo vivo, come fa l'Abisso, tutto intero, come sceso nella fossa:
13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;	13 troveremo ogni sorta di ricchezze, empiremo di spoglie le nostre case;
14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'	14 unisci la tua sorte alla nostra, non ci sia fra noi tutti che Lina sola borsa»,
15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path	15 figlio mio, non andar con loro, tieni lontani i tuoi passi dalla loro strada;
16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;	16 perché i loro piedi corrono al male e si affrettano a sparger del sangue.
17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.	17 Ma indarno si tende la rete davanti agli occhi dei pennuti uccelli;
18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!	18 ed è contro la propria vita che essi tendono insidie, è contro l'anima propria che tramano.
19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.	19 Così va a finire l'avarizia: a toglier la vita di chi l'ha addosso.
20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;	20 La sapienza grida per le vie. alza la sua voce sulle piazze,
21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.	21 si fa sentire nei crocicchi affollati, alle porte della città proferisce le sue parole, e dice:
22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?	22 « Fino a quando, o fanciulli, amerete la fanciullaggine, gli stolti brameranno ciò che li rovina, e gl'insensati odieranno la scienza?
23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.	23 Volgetevi ai miei rimproveri. Ecco comunicherò a voi il mio spirito e vi dichiarerò le mie parole.
24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,	24 Siccome vi ho chiamati, e non siete voluti venire, ho stesa la mia mano, e nessuno ci ha badato,
25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,	25 e avete disprezzati tutti i miei consigli, e non avete voluto sapere delle mie ammonizioni,
26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,	26 anch'io riderò nella vostra rovina, e vi schernirò quando vi assalirà il terrore,
27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.	27 quando vi piomberà addosso la sventura, quando come turbine vi sorprenderà la morte, quando verrà sopra di voi la tribolazione e l'angoscia.
28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.	28 Allora mi chiameranno, ma io non risponderò; mi cercheranno con premura, ma non mi troveranno.
29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,	29 Perchè ebbero in odio la disciplina e non vollero saperne del timore del Signore,
30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:	30 non stettero al mio consiglio e malignarono ogni mia correzione,
31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.	31 perciò mangeranno i frutti della loro condotta, e si sazieranno dei propri consigli.
32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;	32 L'indocilità di questi fanciulli sarà la loro morte, e la prosperità degli stolti li manderà in rovina.
33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'	33 Ma chi mi ascolta vivrà tranquillo nell'abbondanza di ogni bene, senza alcun male.
