Proverbs 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:	1 Proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel:
2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,	2 para aprender sabiduría e instrucción, para entender los discursos profundos,
3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;	3 para alcanzar intrucción y perspicacia, - justicia, equidad y rectitud -,
4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;	4 para enseñar a los simples la prudencia, a los jóvenes ciencia y reflexión,
5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.	5 Que atienda el sabio y crecerá en doctrina, y el inteligente aprenderá a hacer proyectos.
6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.	6 para descifrar proverbios y enigmas, los dichos de los sabios y sus adivinanzas.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.	7 El temor de Yahveh es el principio de la ciencia; los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.
8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:	8 Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre y no desprecies la lección de tu madre:
9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.	9 corona graciosa son para tu cabeza y un collar para tu cuello.
10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.	10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quieren seducir, no vayas.
11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,	11 Si te dicen: «¡Vente con nosotros, estemos al acecho para derramar sangre, apostémonos contra el inocente sin motivo alguno,
12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.	12 devorémoslos vivos como el seol, enteros como los que bajan a la fosa!;
13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;	13 ¡hallaremos toda clase de riquezas, llenaremos nuestras casas de botín,
14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'	14 te tocará tu parte igual que a nosotros, para todos habrá bolsa común!»:
15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path	15 no te pongas, hijo mío, en camino con ellos, tu pie detén ante su senda,
16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;	16 porque sus pies corren hacia el mal y a derramar sangre se apresuran;
17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.	17 pues es inútil tender la red a los ojos mismos de los pajarillos.
18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!	18 Contra su propia sangre están acechando, apostados están contra sus propias vidas.
19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.	19 Esa es la senda de todo el que se entrega a la rapiña: ella quita la vida a su propio dueño.
20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;	20 La Sabiduría clama por las calles, por las plazas alza su voz,
21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.	21 llama en la esquina de las calles concurridas, a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad pronuncia sus discursos:
22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?	22 «¿Hasta cuándo, simples, amaréis vuestra simpleza y arrogantes os gozaréis en la arrogancia y necios tendréis odio a la ciencia?
23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.	23 Convertíos por mis reprensiones: voy a derramar mi espíritu para vosotros, os voy a comunicar mis palabras.
24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,	24 Ya que os he llamado y no habéis querido, he tendido mi mano y nadie ha prestado atención,
25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,	25 habéis despreciado todos mis consejos, no habéis hecho caso de mis reprensiones;
26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,	26 también yo me reiré de vuestra desgracia, me burlaré cuando llegue vuestro espanto,
27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.	27 cuando llegue, como huracán, vuestro espanto, vuestra desgracia sobrevenga como torbellino, cuando os alcancen la angustia y la tribulación.
28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.	28 Entonces me llamarán y no responderé, me buscarán y no me hallarán.
29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,	29 Porque tuvieron odio a la ciencia y no eligieron el temor de Yahveh,
30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:	30 no hicieron caso de mi consejo, ni admitieron de mí ninguna reprensión;
31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.	31 comerán del fruto de su conducta, de sus propios consejos se hartarán.
32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;	32 Su propio descarrío matará a los simples, la despreocupación perderá a los insensatos.
33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'	33 Pero el que me escucha vivirá seguro, tranquilo, sin temor a la desgracia».
