Proverbs 1

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:	1 Proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel,
2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,	2 para conocer la sabiduría y la instrucción, para entender las palabras profundas,
3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;	3 para obtener una instrucción esmerada –justicia, equidad y rectitud–
4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;	4 para dar perspicacia a los incautos, y al joven, ciencia y reflexión;
5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.	5 Que escuche el sabio, y acrecentará su saber, y el inteligente adquirirá el arte de dirigir.
6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.	6 para entender los proverbios y las sentencias agudas, las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.	7 El temor del Señor es el comienzo de la sabiduría, los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.
8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:	8 Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre y no rechaces la enseñanza de tu madre,
9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.	9 porque son una diadema de gracia para tu cabeza y un collar para tu cuello.
10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.	10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores intentan seducirte, tú no aceptes.
11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,	11 Si ellos dicen: «Ven con nosotros, tendamos una emboscada sangrienta, acechemos por puro gusto al inocente;
12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.	12 traguémoslos vivos como el Abismo, todos enteros, como los que bajan a la Fosa;
13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;	13 hallaremos toda clase de bienes preciosos, llenaremos nuestras casas con el botín;
14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'	14 tendrás tu parte igual que nosotros, todos haremos una bolsa común».
15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path	15 hijo mío, no los acompañes por el camino, retira tus pies de sus senderos,
16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;	16 porque sus pies corren hacia el mal y se apresuran para derramar sangre.
17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.	17 Pero en vano se tiende la red, si pueden verla todos los pájaros:
18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!	18 ellos tienden contra sí mismos una emboscada sangrienta, están al acecho contra sus propias vidas.
19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.	19 Tal es la suerte del que obtiene ganancias injustas; le quitan la vida al que las posee.
20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;	20 La Sabiduría clama por las calles, en las plazas hace oír su voz;
21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.	21 llama en las esquinas más concurridas, a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad, dice sus palabras:
22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?	22 «¿Hasta cuándo, incautos, amarán la ingenuidad? ¿Hasta cuándo los insolentes se complacerán en su insolencia y los necios aborrecerán la ciencia?
23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.	23 Tengan en cuenta mi reproche: yo voy a abrirles mi corazón y les haré conocer mis palabras.
24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,	24 Porque llamo y ustedes se resisten, extiendo mi mano y nadie presta atención,
25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,	25 porque ustedes desoyen todos mis consejos y no aceptan mi reproche,
26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,	26 yo, a mi vez, me reiré de la ruina de ustedes, me burlaré cuando los asalte el terror,
27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.	27 cuando los invada el terror como una tormenta y les llegue la ruina como un huracán. cuando les sobrevengan la angustia y la tribulación:
28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.	28 entonces me llamarán, y yo no responderé, me buscarán ansiosamente, y no me encontrarán.
29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,	29 Porque ellos aborrecieron la ciencia y no eligieron el temor del Señor,
30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:	30 porque no quisieron mi consejo y despreciaron todos mis reproches,
31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.	31 gustarán el fruto de su propia conducta, se hartarán de sus consejos.
32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;	32 Porque a los ingenuos los mata su propio extravío y la desidia pierde a los necios,
33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'	33 pero el que me escucha vivirá seguro y estará tranquilo, sin temer ningún mal».
