Proverbs 1

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:	1 Parabole di Salomone figliuolo di David, re d'Israele.
2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,	2 Donde apparar la sapienza, e la disciplina,
3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;	3 E intendere gli avvertimenti della prudenza, e abbracciare le istruzioni della dottrina, la giustizia, la rettitudine, e l'equità:
4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;	4 Donde i piccoli si provveggano di sagacità, i giovinetti di sapere, e di intelligenza.
5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.	5 Il saggio, che ascolterà, crescerà in sapienza, e colui, che intenderà, starà al timone:
6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.	6 Comprenderà le parabole, e la loro interpretazione, le parole de' saggi, e i loro enimmi.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.	7 I timor del Signore egli o il principio della sapienza: la sapienza, e la dottrina è disprezzata dagli stolti.
8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:	8 Ascolta, figliuol mio, i precetti del padre tuo, e non metter da banda le ammonizioni della tua madre:
9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.	9 Onde tu acquisti corona al tuo capo, e collana al tuo collo.
10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.	10 Figliuol mio, se i peccatori ti adescherrano, tu non fare a modo di coloro.
11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,	11 S'ei diranno: Vieni con noi, insidieremo alla vita altrui, nasconderemo i lacci tesi a colui, che inutilmente è senza colpa:
12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.	12 Lo ingoieremo vivo, come fa l'inferno, e tutto intero, come un che cade in un baratro.
13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;	13 Troveremo ricchezze grandi d'ogni maniera, ed empieremo di spoglie le nostre case.
14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'	14 Unisci la sorte tua colla nostra, una sola borsa sarà tra tutti noi.
15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path	15 Figliuol mio, non andar con costoro: tien lungi dalle vie loro i tuoi passi.
16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;	16 Perocché i loro piedi corrono al male, ed ei si affrettano a spargere il sangue;
17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.	17 Ma indarno si tende la rete dinanzi agli occhi dei pennuti augelli:
18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!	18 Costoro di più le insidie tendono alla propria lor vita, e le frodi macchinano contro le anime loro.
19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.	19 Cosi le ruberie di tutti gli avari ruban le anime di quelli, che se le appropiano.
20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;	20 La sapienza esce fuora cantando, alza la voce sua nelle piazze,
21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.	21 Là, dove si aduna la moltitudine, ella si fa sentire, alle porte (della città) ella espone i suoi documenti, e dice:
22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?	22 Fino a quando, o fanciulli, amerete voi la fanciullaggine? e ameranno gli stolti quello, che ad essi nuoce? e gli imprudenti avranno in odio la scienza?
23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.	23 Volgetevi a udire le mie riprensioni: ecco che io vi comunicherò il mio spirito, e voi farò nota la mia dottrina.
24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,	24 Perché io chiamai, e voi non obbediste, stesi la mano, e nissun vi fece attenzione,
25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,	25 Disprezzaste tutti i miei consigli, e poneste in non cale le mie riprensioni;
26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,	26 Io pure nella perdizione vostra riderò, e vi schernirò allora quando sopravverrà a voi quello, che temevate.
27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.	27 Quando improvvisa sciagura vi investirà, e la morte, quasi turbine, vi sorprenderà; quando sopra di voi si getterà la tribolazione, e l'affanno.
28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.	28 Allora costoro mi invocheranno, ed io non gli esaudirò, si alzeranno, solleciti, e non mi troveranno:
29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,	29 Perocché ebbero in odio la disciplina, e non abbracciarono il timor del Signore.
30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:	30 E non porser le orecchie aì miei consigli, e si fecer beffe di tutte le mie correzioni.
31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.	31 Mangeranno pertanto i frutti delle opere loro, e si satolleranno de' loro consiglj.
32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;	32 La indocilità di questi fanciulli sarà la loro morte, e la prosperità degli stolti li manderà in rovina.
33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'	33 Ma chi ascolta me avrà riposo senza paure, e sarà nell'abbondanza scevro dal timore de' mali.
