[For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Psalm Of David] In God alone there is rest for my soul, from himcomes my safety;1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the desert of Idumea.
he alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold so that I stand unshaken.2 O God, my God: to you, I keep vigil until first light. For you, my soul has thirsted, to you my body, in so many ways.
How much longer wil you set on a victim, al together, intent on murder, like a rampart already leaningover, a wall already damaged?3 By a deserted land, both inaccessible and waterless, so I have appeared in the sanctuary before you, in order to behold your virtue and your glory.
Trickery is their only plan, deception their only pleasure, with lies on their lips they pronounce ablessing, with a curse in their hearts.Pause4 For your mercy is better than life itself. It is you my lips will praise.
Rest in God alone, my soul! He is the source of my hope.5 So will I bless you in my life, and I will lift up my hands in your name.
He alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold, so that I stand unwavering.6 Let my soul be filled, as if with marrow and fatness; and my mouth will give praise with exultant lips.
In God is my safety and my glory, the rock of my strength. In God is my refuge;7 When I have remembered you on my bed in the morning, I will meditate on you.
trust in him, you people, at al times. Pour out your hearts to him, God is a refuge for us.Pause8 For you have been my helper. And I will exult under the cover of your wings.
Ordinary people are a mere puff of wind, important people a delusion; set both on the scales together, and they are lighter than a puff of wind.9 My soul has clung close to you. Your right hand has supported me.
Put no trust in extortion, no empty hopes in robbery; however much wealth may multiply, do not setyour heart on it.10 Truly, these ones have sought my soul in vain. They will enter into the lower parts of the earth.
Once God has spoken, twice have I heard this: Strength belongs to God,11 They will be delivered into the hand of the sword. They will be the portions of foxes.
to you, Lord, faithful love; and you repay everyone as their deeds deserve.12 Truly, the king will rejoice in God: all those who swear by him will be praised, because the mouth of those who speak iniquity has been blocked.
