[For the choirmaster Tune: 'Do not destroy' Of David In a quiet voice When Saul sent men to watchDavid's house in order to have him killed] Rescue me from my enemies, my God, be my stronghold from myassailants, | 1 For the director. Do not destroy. A miktam of David, when Saul sent people to watch his house and kill him. |
rescue me from evil-doers, from men of violence save me. | 2 Rescue me from my enemies, my God; lift me out of reach of my foes. |
Look at them, lurking to ambush me, violent men are attacking me, for no fault, no sin of mine,Yahweh, | 3 Deliver me from evildoers; from the bloodthirsty save me. |
for no guilt, they come running to take up position. Wake up, stand by me and keep watch, | 4 They have set an ambush for my life; the powerful conspire against me. For no offense or misdeed of mine, LORD, |
Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, God of Israel, rise up, to punish al the nations, show no mercy to all thesemalicious traitors.Pause | 5 for no fault they hurry to take up arms. Come near and see my plight! |
Back they come at nightfall, snarling like curs, prowling through the town. | 6 You, LORD of hosts, are the God of Israel! Awake! Punish all the nations. Have no mercy on these worthless traitors. Selah |
Look how they rant in speech with swords on their lips, 'Who is there to hear us?' | 7 Each evening they return, growling like dogs, prowling the city. |
For your part, Yahweh, you laugh at them, you make mockery of all nations. | 8 Their mouths pour out insult; sharp words are on their lips. They say: "Who is there to hear?" |
My strength, I keep my eyes fixed on you. For my stronghold is God, | 9 You, LORD, laugh at them; you deride all the nations. |
the God who loves me faithfully is coming to meet me, God will let me feast my eyes on those who liein wait for me. | 10 My strength, for you I watch; you, God, are my fortress, |
Do not annihilate them, or my people may forget; shake them in your power, bring them low, Lord, our shield. | 11 my loving God. |
Sin is in their mouths, sin on their lips, so let them be trapped in their pride for the curses and lies thatthey utter. | 12 May God go before me, and show me my fallen foes. Slay them, God, lest they deceive my people. Shake them by your power; Lord, our shield, bring them down. |
Destroy them in your anger, destroy them til they are no more, and let it be known that God is Masterin Jacob and the whole wide world.Pause | 13 For the sinful words of their mouths and lips let them be caught in their pride. For the lies they have told under oath |
Back they come at nightfal , snarling like curs, prowling through the town, | 14 destroy them in anger, destroy till they are no more. Then people will know God rules over Jacob, yes, even to the ends of the earth. Selah |
scavenging for something to eat, growling unless they have their fil . | 15 Each evening they return, growling like dogs, prowling the city. |
And so I wil sing of your strength, in the morning acclaim your faithful love; you have been astronghold for me, a refuge when I was in trouble. | 16 They roam about as scavengers; if they are not filled, they howl. |
My strength, I wil make music for you, for my stronghold is God, the God who loves me faithful y. | 17 But I shall sing of your strength, extol your love at dawn, For you are my fortress, my refuge in time of trouble. |
My strength, your praise I will sing; you, God, are my fortress, my loving God. |
