NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
[For the choirmaster Poem Of David When Doeg the Edomite went and warned Saul, 'David has goneto Abimelech's house'] Why take pride in being wicked, you champion in vil ainy, al day long1 For the leader. A maskil of David,
plotting crime? Your tongue is razor-sharp, you artist in perfidy.2 when Doeg the Edomite went and told Saul, "David went to the house of Ahimelech."
You prefer evil to good, lying to uprightness. Pause3 Why do you glory in evil, you scandalous liar? All day long
You revel in destructive talk, treacherous tongue!4 you plot destruction; your tongue is like a sharpened razor, you skillful deceiver.
That is why God wil crush you, destroy you once and for all, snatch you from your tent, uproot youfrom the land of the living.Pause5 You love evil rather than good, lies rather than honest speech. Selah
The upright wil be awestruck as they see it, they wil mock him,6 You love any word that destroys, you deceitful tongue.
'So much for someone who would not place his reliance in God, but relied on his own great wealth, and made himself strong by crime.'7 Now God will strike you down, leave you crushed forever, Pluck you from your tent, uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
But I, like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God, put my trust in God's faithful love, for ever andever.8 The righteous will look on with awe; they will jeer and say:
I shal praise you for ever for what you have done, and shal trust in your name, so ful of goodness, inthe presence of your faithful.9 "That one did not take God as a refuge, but trusted in great wealth, relied on devious plots."
But I, like an olive tree in the house of God, trust in God's faithful love forever.
I will praise you always for what you have done. I will proclaim before the faithful that your name is good.
