NEW JERUSALEMLXX
Elihu continued his speech. He said:1 υπολαβων δε ελιους λεγει
Do you think you can prove yourself upright and establish your uprightness before God2 τι τουτο ηγησω εν κρισει συ τις ει οτι ειπας δικαιος ειμι εναντι κυριου
by daring to say to him, 'What does it matter to you, or how does it benefit me, whether I have sinnedor not?'3 η ερεις τι ποιησω αμαρτων
Very well, I shal tel you and your friends as wel .4 εγω σοι δωσω αποκρισιν και τοις τρισιν φιλοις σου
Take a look at the skies and see, observe how high the clouds are above you.5 αναβλεψον εις τον ουρανον και ιδε καταμαθε δε νεφη ως υψηλα απο σου
If you sin, how can you affect him? If you heap up crimes, what effect has it on him?6 ει ημαρτες τι πραξεις ει δε και πολλα ηνομησας τι δυνασαι ποιησαι
If you are upright, what do you give him, what benefit does he receive at your hands?7 επει δε ουν δικαιος ει τι δωσεις αυτω η τι εκ χειρος σου λημψεται
Your wickedness affects only your fel ows, your uprightness, other human beings.8 ανδρι τω ομοιω σου η ασεβεια σου και υιω ανθρωπου η δικαιοσυνη σου
They too groan under the weight of oppression, they cry for help under the tyranny of the mighty,9 απο πληθους συκοφαντουμενοι κεκραξονται βοησονται απο βραχιονος πολλων
but none of them thinks of saying, 'Where is God, my Maker, who makes glad songs ring out at night,10 και ουκ ειπεν που εστιν ο θεος ο ποιησας με ο κατατασσων φυλακας νυκτερινας
who has made us more intel igent than wild animals wiser than birds in the sky?'11 ο διοριζων με απο τετραποδων γης απο δε πετεινων ουρανου
Cry they may, but get no answer, to be spared from the arrogance of the wicked.12 εκει κεκραξονται και ου μη εισακουση και απο υβρεως πονηρων
Of course God does not listen to trivialities, Shaddai pays no attention to them.13 ατοπα γαρ ου βουλεται ο κυριος ιδειν αυτος γαρ ο παντοκρατωρ ορατης εστιν
And how much less when you say, 'I cannot see him, my case is open and I am waiting for him.'14 των συντελουντων τα ανομα και σωσει με κριθητι δε εναντιον αυτου ει δυνασαι αινεσαι αυτον ως εστιν
Or, 'His anger never punishes, he does not seem aware of human rebel ion.'15 και νυν οτι ουκ εστιν επισκεπτομενος οργην αυτου και ουκ εγνω παραπτωματι σφοδρα
Hence, when Job speaks, he talks nonsense, ignorantly babbling on and on.16 και ιωβ ματαιως ανοιγει το στομα αυτου εν αγνωσια ρηματα βαρυνει
