Job 15

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Eliphaz of Teman spoke next. He said:	1 Elifaz di Teman prese a sua volta la parola e disse:
2 Does anyone wise respond with windy arguments, or feed on an east wind?	2 "Un sapiente risponde forse con dottrina falsa e si riempie il ventre con vento di Levante?
3 Or make a defence with ineffectual words and speeches good for nothing?	3 Arguisce forse con ragioni inconsistenti e con discorsi che non servono a nulla?
4 You do worse: you suppress reverence, you discredit discussion before God.	4 Tu pure vuoi distruggere la pietà e sopprimere la riflessione davanti a Dio.
5 Your very fault incites you to speak like this, hence you adopt this language of cunning.	5 In verità, il tuo crimine ispira le tue parole e adotti il linguaggio dei furbi.
6 Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; your own lips bear witness against you.	6 E' la tua bocca che ti condanna, non io, e le tue labbra testimoniano contro di te.
7 Are you the first-born of the human race, brought into the world before the hills?	7 Sei tu forse il primo uomo che è nato? Sei stato generato prima dei colli?
8 Have you been a listener at God's council, or established a monopoly of wisdom?	8 Hai tu ascoltato i segreti consigli di Dio, e ti sei accaparrata la sapienza?
9 What knowledge do you have that we have not, what understanding that is not ours too?	9 Che cosa sai tu che noi non sappiamo? E cosa comprendi che non sia a noi familiare?
10 One of us is an old, grey-headed man loaded with more years than your father!	10 Anche tra noi c'è il vecchio, c'è il canuto; qualcuno che è più anziano di tuo padre.
11 Can you ignore these divine consolations and the moderate tone of our words?	11 Ti sembrano poca cosa le consolazioni di Dio e la parola soave che ti è rivolta?
12 How passion carries you away! And how you rol your eyes,	12 Perché ti trasporta la passione, e perché si storcono i tuoi occhi
13 when you vent your anger on God and speeches come tripping off your tongue!	13 quando rivolgi contro Dio il tuo furore e lanci parole dalla tua bocca?
14 How can anyone be pure, anyone born of woman be upright?	14 Chi è l'uomo perché si ritenga puro e perché si dica giusto un nato di donna?
15 God cannot rely even on his holy ones, to him, even the heavens seem impure.	15 Ecco, neppure dei suoi santi egli ha fiducia, e i cieli non sono puri ai suoi occhi;
16 How much more, this hateful, corrupt thing, humanity, which soaks up wickedness like water!	16 quanto meno l'uomo detestabile e corrotto, che beve l'iniquità come acqua!
17 Listen to me, I have a lesson for you: I am going to impart my own experience	17 Voglio spiegartelo, ascoltami; ti racconterò ciò che ho visto,
18 and the tradition of the sages who have remained faithful to their ancestors,	18 ciò che narrano i saggi senza celarlo, avendolo udito dai loro antenati.
19 to whom alone the land was given -- no foreigner included among them.	19 Ad essi soli fu concesso questo paese, quando nessuno straniero si era infiltrato tra essi.
20 The life of the wicked is unceasing torment, the years al otted to the tyrant are numbered.	20 Il malvagio si tormenta tutta la vita; qualunque sia il numero degli anni riservati al tiranno,
21 A cry of panic echoes in his ear; when al is peace, his destroyer swoops down on him.	21 grida di spavento risuonano nei suoi orecchi; quando sta in pace, lo assalta il brigante.
22 No more can he count on escaping from the dark, but knows that he is destined for the sword,	22 Non spera di uscire dalle tenebre, destinato com'è al pugnale.
23 marked down as meat for the vulture. He knows that his ruin is at hand.	23 Vaga in cerca di cibo, ma dove andare? Sa che la sua sventura è vicina.
24 The hour of darkness terrifies him, distress and anguish assail him as when a king is poised for theassault.	24 Il giorno tenebroso lo spaventa, l'ansia e l'angoscia lo assalgono, come un re pronto all'assalto!
25 He raised his hand against God, boldly he defied Shaddai!	25 Infatti, ha steso contro Dio la sua mano, ha osato sfidare l'Onnipotente;
26 Head lowered, he charged him, with his massively bossed shield.	26 correva contro di lui a testa alta, sotto il dorso blindato dei suoi scudi;
27 His face had grown ful and fat, and his thighs too heavy with flesh.	27 perché aveva la faccia coperta di grasso ed i lombi circondati di pinguedine.
28 He had occupied the towns he had destroyed, with their uninhabited houses about to fal into ruins;	28 Aveva abitato in città diroccate, in case non più adatte a dimora, destinate a diventare macerie.
29 but no great profit to him, his luck will not hold, he wil cast his shadow over the country no longer,	29 Non si arricchirà, non durerà la sua fortuna; le sue possessioni non scenderanno nel sepolcro.
30 (he wil not escape the dark). A flame wil scorch his young shoots, the wind will carry off his blossom.	30 Non sfuggirà alle tenebre, una fiamma seccherà i suoi germogli ed il vento porterà via i suoi fiori.
31 Let him not trust in his great height or delusion will be his.	31 Non confidi nella vanità che inganna, perché la vanità sarà la sua ricompensa.
32 His palm trees wil wither before their time and his branches never again be green.	32 Ciò si compirà anzitempo; i suoi rami non rinverdiranno più.
33 Like the vine, he wil shake off his unripe fruit, like the olive tree, shed his blossom.	33 Sarà come vite che lascia cadere l'agresto, come l'ulivo che perde la fioritura.
34 Yes, sterile is the spawn of the sinner, and fire consumes the tents of the venal.	34 Sì, la banda degli empi è sterile ed il fuoco divora le tende della venalità.
35 Whoever conceives malice, breeds disaster, bears as offspring only a false hope.	35 Chi concepisce malizia, genera sventura, e il suo ventre nutre la delusione".
