NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 a human being, born of woman, whose life is short but ful of trouble.	1 « L'uomo nato di donna vive poco tempo e pieno di molte miserie.
2 Like a flower, such a one blossoms and withers, fleeting as a shadow, transient.	2 Come un fiore sboccia e secca, fugge qual ombra, senza mai fermarsi.
3 And this is the creature on whom you fix your gaze, and bring to judgement before you!	3 E tu stimi degno aprire i tuoi occhi sopra tal essere, e chiamarlo al tuo tribunale?
4 But will anyone produce the pure from what is impure? No one can!	4 Chi può render puro colui che fu concepito d'immonda semenza? Non forse tu che sei l'unico?
5 Since his days are measured out, since his tale of months depends on you, since you assign himbounds he cannot pass,	5 I giorni dell'uomo son brevi, il numero dei suoi mesi è presso di te. Gli hai fissato un termine che non può essere oltrepassato.
6 turn your eyes from him, leave him alone, like a hired labourer, to finish his day in peace.	6 Ritirati un poco da lui e lascialo in pace, finché non venga, come quello d'un mercenario, il suo giorno bramato.
7 There is always hope for a tree: when fel ed, it can start its life again; its shoots continue to sprout.	7 Per la pianta c'è una speranza: anche tagliata, rimette e ritorna ad avere i suoi rami;
8 Its roots may have grown old in the earth, its stump rotting in the ground,	8 ed anche quando sarà invecchiata sotto la terra la sua radico, quando il suo tronco sarà morto nella polvere,
9 but let it scent the water, and it buds, and puts out branches like a plant newly set.	9 appena sente l'acqua rinverdisce e fa le fronde come pianta novella.
10 But a human being? He dies, and dead he remains, breathes his last, and then where is he?	10 Ma l'uomo morto che sia, non ha più nulla. E' finito. Di grazia, che ne resta?
11 The waters of the sea wil vanish, the rivers stop flowing and run dry:	11 Simile alle acque sparite dal lago, al fiume che inaridisce e secca.
12 a human being, once laid to rest, will never rise again, the heavens wil wear out before he wakes up,or before he is roused from his sleep.	12 L'uomo quando si sarà addormentato non risorgerà, finché non cada il cielo non si sveglierà, nè si scuoterà dal suo sonno.
13 Will no one hide me in Sheol, and shelter me there til your anger is past, fixing a certain day forcal ing me to mind-	13 Oh! potessi ottenere che tu mi seppellisca nell'Abisso, e mi faccia star laggiù nascosto finché non passi il tuo furore, finché tu non abbia fissato il giorno in cui ti ricorderai di me!
14 can the dead come back to life? - day after day of my service, I should be waiting for my relief tocome.	14 Pensi forse che l'uomo morto torni a vivere? Tutti i giorni del mio presente battagliare aspetto che venga il mio cambiamento.
15 Then you would cal , and I should answer, you would want to see once more what you have made.	15 Allora mi chiamerai ed io risponderò, e tu porgerai la destra all'opera delle tue mani.
16 Whereas now you count every step I take, you would then stop spying on my sin;	16 Tu hai certamente contati i miei passi; ma perdona i miei peccati.
17 you would seal up my crime in a bag, and put a cover over my fault.	17 Tu hai sigillati come in un sacco i miei delitti, ma hai dato un rimedio alle mie iniquità.
18 Alas! Just as, eventual y, the mountain fal s down, the rock moves from its place,	18 Il monte cade e sparisce, il masso è divelto dal suo posto,
19 water wears away the stones, the cloudburst erodes the soil; so you destroy whatever hope a personhas.	19 le acque scavan le pietre, la terra a poco a poco è portata via dalla inondazione, e così farai sparire anche l'uomo.
20 You crush him once for al , and he is gone; first you disfigure him, then you dismiss him.	20 Gli darai per un po' di tempo il vigore, e lo farai passare per sempre, ne sfigurerai il volto, lo caccerai.
21 His children may rise to honours -- he does not know it; they may come down in the world -- he doesnot care.	21 Abbiano onori i suoi figli o siano dispregiati, egli non lo saprà;
22 He feels no pangs, except for his own body, makes no lament, except for his own self.	22 ma la sua carne soffrirà finché egli avrà vita, ed egli piangerà sopra se stesso ».
