Job 14

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 a human being, born of woman, whose life is short but ful of trouble.	1 L’uomo nato di donna È di breve età, e pieno di travagli.
2 Like a flower, such a one blossoms and withers, fleeting as a shadow, transient.	2 Egli esce fuori come un fiore, e poi è reciso; E fugge come l’ombra, e non istà fermo.
3 And this is the creature on whom you fix your gaze, and bring to judgement before you!	3 E pur tu apri gli occhi tuoi sopra un tale, E mi fai venire a giudicio teco!
4 But will anyone produce the pure from what is impure? No one can!	4 Chi può trarre una cosa monda da una immonda? Niuno.
5 Since his days are measured out, since his tale of months depends on you, since you assign himbounds he cannot pass,	5 Poichè i suoi giorni son determinati, E che il numero de’ suoi mesi è appo te, E che tu gli hai posti i suoi termini, I quali egli non può trapassare,
6 turn your eyes from him, leave him alone, like a hired labourer, to finish his day in peace.	6 Rivolgiti d’addosso a lui, sì ch’egli abbia alcuna posa, Infino a tanto che di buona voglia egli fornisca la sua giornata, come un mercenario
7 There is always hope for a tree: when fel ed, it can start its life again; its shoots continue to sprout.	7 Perciocchè quantunque un albero sia tagliato, Pur vi è speranza per lui, ch’egli si rinnoverà ancora, E che i suoi rampolli non mancheranno.
8 Its roots may have grown old in the earth, its stump rotting in the ground,	8 Benchè la sua radice sia invecchiata nella terra, E il suo tronco sia morto nella polvere;
9 but let it scent the water, and it buds, and puts out branches like a plant newly set.	9 Pur nondimeno, tosto ch’egli sentirà l’acqua, rigermoglierà, E produrrà rami come una pianta novella.
10 But a human being? He dies, and dead he remains, breathes his last, and then where is he?	10 Ma l’uomo muore, e si fiacca; E quando l’uomo è trapassato, ov’è egli?
11 The waters of the sea wil vanish, the rivers stop flowing and run dry:	11 Le acque se ne vanno via dal mare, E i fiumi si seccano, e si asciugano;
12 a human being, once laid to rest, will never rise again, the heavens wil wear out before he wakes up,or before he is roused from his sleep.	12 Così, quando l’uomo giace in terra, egli non risorge; Finchè non vi sieno più cieli, i morti non si risveglieranno, E non si desteranno dal sonno loro.
13 Will no one hide me in Sheol, and shelter me there til your anger is past, fixing a certain day forcal ing me to mind-	13 Oh! nascondessimi tu pur sottera, Ed occultassimi, finchè l’ira tua fosse racquetata; E ponessimi alcun termine, dopo il quale tu ti ricordassi di me!
14 can the dead come back to life? - day after day of my service, I should be waiting for my relief tocome.	14 Se l’uomo muore, può egli tornare in vita? Aspetterò io tutti i giorni del tempo determinato della mia vita, Finchè mi venga mutamento di condizione?
15 Then you would cal , and I should answer, you would want to see once more what you have made.	15 E che tu mi chiami, e che io ti risponda, E che tu desideri l’opera delle tue mani?
16 Whereas now you count every step I take, you would then stop spying on my sin;	16 Perciocchè ora tu conti i miei passi, E non riserbi nulla a punir del mio peccato.
17 you would seal up my crime in a bag, and put a cover over my fault.	17 I miei misfatti son suggellati in un sacchetto, Tu l’hai cucito sopra le mie iniquità.
18 Alas! Just as, eventual y, the mountain fal s down, the rock moves from its place,	18 Ma certo, come un monte cadendo scoscende, Ed una rupe è divelta dal suo luogo;
19 water wears away the stones, the cloudburst erodes the soil; so you destroy whatever hope a personhas.	19 E le acque rodono le pietre, E i lor diluvi inondano la polvere dalla terra; Così tu fai perir la speranza dell’uomo.
20 You crush him once for al , and he is gone; first you disfigure him, then you dismiss him.	20 Tu lo sopraffai in eterno, ed egli se ne va; Tu gli fai mutar faccia, e lo mandi via.
21 His children may rise to honours -- he does not know it; they may come down in the world -- he doesnot care.	21 Se poi i suoi figliuoli sono in onore, egli nol sa; Se altresì sono abbassati, egli non vi pon mente.
22 He feels no pangs, except for his own body, makes no lament, except for his own self.	22 La sua carne si duole sol di lui, E l’anima sua fa cordoglio sol di lui
