1 Chronicles 17

1 It happened, once David had settled into his palace, that David said to the prophet Nathan, 'Here am Iliving in a cedar-wood palace, while the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under awnings.'	1 Or David, mentre se ne stava in casa sua, prese a dire al profeta Natan: « Ecco, io sto in una casa di cedro; e l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore è sotto una tenda ».
2 Nathan said to David, 'Do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you.'	2 Natan disse a David: « Fa tutto quello che hai nel cuore, perchè teco è il Signore ».
3 But that very night the word of God came to Nathan, as fol ows:	3 Ma quella stessa notte la parola di Dio fu indirizzata a Natan in questi termini:
4 'Go and tell my servant David, "Yahweh says this: You must not build a temple for me to live in.	4 « Va a dire al mio servo David: Queste cose dice il Signore: Non sarai tu quello che edificherai una casa per mia dimora:
5 I have never lived in a house from the day when I brought Israel out until today, but have kepttravel ing from tent to tent and from shelter to shelter.	5 infatti io non ho abitato in nessuna casa dal tempo in cui trassi Israele fino al presente; ma andai sempre cambiando i luoghi del Tabernacolo, e dimorai sotto una tenda
6 In al my travels with al Israel, did I say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I had commanded toshepherd my people: Why do you not build me a cedar-wood temple?	6 con tutto Israele. Ho mai fatto parola ad alcuno dei giudici d'Israele, ai quali comandai di pascere il mio popolo, per dirgli: Perchè non mi avete edificata una casa di cedro?
7 This is what you must say to my servant David: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I took you from thepasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel.	7 Or dunque dirai così al mio servo David: Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti: Io ti presi dal pascolo, mentre andavi dietro alle pecore, per farti essere capo del mio popolo Israele.
8 I have been with you wherever you went; I have got rid of al your enemies for you. I am going to makeyour fame like that of the greatest men on earth.	8 Io sono stato con te aovunque sei andato, ho sterminati tutti i tuoi nemici dinanzi a te, ti ho fatto un nome come quello dei grandi che son celebri sulla terra.
9 I am going to provide a place for my people Israel; I shal plant them there and there they will live andnever be disturbed again; nor wil they be oppressed by the wicked as they were in former times	9 Io ho assegnato un posto al mio popolo Israele; ivi egli sarà piantato, ivi abiterà, senza essere più agitato, e i figli d'iniquità non l'opprimeranno più come pel passato,
10 ever since I instituted judges to govern my people Israel; I shall subdue al your enemies. Yahwehmoreover tel s you that he wil build you a dynasty.	10 dal giorno in cui diedi dei giudici al mio popolo Israele, io ho umiliati tutti i tuoi nemici. Or ti annunzio che il Signore edificherà a te una casa.
11 And when your days are over and you have gone to join your ancestors, I shall appoint your heir --who wil be one of your sons -- to succeed you, and I shall make his sovereignty secure.	11 Quando avrai compiuti i tuoi giorni per andartene ai tuoi padri, io farò sorgere dopo di te uno di tua stirpe, uno che sarà dei tuoi figli e stabilirò il suo regno.
12 He wil build a temple for me and I shal make his throne secure for ever.	12 Egli mi edificherà una casa, ed io renderò stabile il suo trono in eterno.
13 I shal be his father and he wil be my son, and I shal not withdraw my favour from him, as I withdrewit from your predecessor.	13 Io gli sarò padre ed egli mi sarà figlio; e non toglierò a lui la mia misericordia come la tolsi al tuo predecessore.
14 I shal set him over my temple and kingdom for ever and his throne wil be for ever secure." '	14 Io lo stabilirò nella mia casa e nel mio regno in eterno, e il suo trono sarà stabile in perpetuo ».
15 Nathan related al these words and this whole revelation to David.	15 Natan parlò a David secondo tutte queste parole e secondo tutta questa visione.
16 King David then went in, sat down in Yahweh's presence and said: 'Who am I, Yahweh God, andwhat is my lineage, that you have led me as far as this?	16 Allora il re David andò a presentarsi davanti al Signore e disse: « Chi son io, o Signore Dio, che cos'è la mia casa da farmi tali cose?
17 Yet, to you, O God, this seemed too little, and now you extend your promises for your servant'sfamily into the distant future, making me see as it were a whole succession of men, and it is Yahweh Godhimself who raises it up.	17 E questo è parso ancor poco al tuo cospetto, e tu hai parlato intorno alla casa del tuo servo anche per l'avvenire, e mi hai reso grande sopra tutti gli uomini, Signore Dio.
18 What more can David reply to you for the honour you have given to your servant? You yourself havesingled out your servant.	18 Che potrà aggiungere di più David, dopo che tu hai glorificato fino a tal segno il tuo servo, da te ben conosciuto?
19 For your servant, and since you were so inclined, you have had the generosity to reveal al thisgreatness to come.	19 Signore, tu per amor del tuo servo, secondo il tuo cuore, facesti tutte queste grandi cose, ed hai voluto che fossero note tutte queste maraviglie.
20 Yahweh, there is no one like you, no God but you alone, as everything that we have heard confirms.	20 Signore, nessuno è simile a te: non v'è altro Dio fuori di te fra tutti quelli dei quali abbiamo sentito parlare,
21 Is there another people on earth like your people Israel, whom a god has proceeded to redeem, tomake them his people and to make them famous and do for them great and terrible deeds, by driving out nationsbefore your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? -	21 Infatti qual altro popolo è come il tuo ipopolo Israele, nazione unica sopra la terra, verso la quale è andato Dio per liberarla e farsene un popolo, per scacciare colla sua potenza e coi terrori le nazioni dinanzi a questo popolo da lui liberato dall'Egitto?
22 for you made your people Israel your own people for ever and you, Yahweh, became their God.	22 TU hai fatto del tuo popolo d'Israele il tuo popolo in eterno, tu, o Signore sei divenuto suo Dio.
23 'Now, Yahweh, may the promise which you have made for your servant and as regards his familyhold good for ever, and do as you have said.	23 Or dunque, o Signore, sia confermata in perpetuo la parola che hai detta al tuo servo riguardo alla sua casa, e fa come hai detto.
24 May it hold good, so your name wil be exalted for ever and people wil say, "Israel's God is YahwehSabaoth; he is God for Israel." Your servant David's dynasty will be secure before you	24 Sia confermata, affinchè il tuo nome sia glorificato in eterno, e si dica: Il Signore degli eserciti è il Dio d'I­sraele, e la casa di David suo servo è stabile dinanzi a lui.
25 since you, my God, have disclosed to your servant that you are going to build him a dynasty. Hence,your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to you.	25 Siccome tu, o Signore Dio mio, hai rivelato al tuo servo che gli edificherai una casa, per questo il tuo servo ha avuto fiducia di pregare dinanzi a te.
26 Yes, Yahweh, you are God indeed, and you have made this generous promise to your servant.	26 Ed ora, o Si­gnore, tu sei Dio, ed hai promesso benefìci sì grandi al tuo servo:
27 What is more, you have deigned to bless your servant's dynasty, so that it may remain for everbefore you; and since you, Yahweh, have blessed it, blessed will it be for ever.'	27 tu hai cominciato a benedire la casa del tuo servo, affinchè sussista sempre dinanzi a te, e se la benedici tu, o Signore, sarà benedetta in perpetuo ».
