1 It happened, once David had settled into his palace, that David said to the prophet Nathan, 'Here am Iliving in a cedar-wood palace, while the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under awnings.'	1 - Mentre Davide abitava nella sua casa, disse a Natan profeta: «Ecco io abito in una casa di legno di cedro, mentre l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore sta sotto le pelli».
2 Nathan said to David, 'Do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you.'	2 Natan rispose a Davide: «Fa' tutto ciò che ti passa in cuore, poichè il Signore è con te».
3 But that very night the word of God came to Nathan, as fol ows:	3 Ma in quella notte la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Natan in questi termini:
4 'Go and tell my servant David, "Yahweh says this: You must not build a temple for me to live in.	4 «Va' a dire a Davide mio servo: - Il Signore dice queste cose: "Tu non mi edificherai una casa per mia abitazione,
5 I have never lived in a house from the day when I brought Israel out until today, but have kepttravel ing from tent to tent and from shelter to shelter.	5 mentre non ho mai abitato una casa dal tempo che trassi Israele [dall'Egitto] fino a questo giorno; ma andai sempre mutando i luoghi del tabernacolo
6 In al my travels with al Israel, did I say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I had commanded toshepherd my people: Why do you not build me a cedar-wood temple?	6 e dimorando sotto una tenda con tutto Israele. Ho io mai detto almeno a uno dei giudici d'Israele, ai quali avevo comandato di reggere il mio popolo, ho io mai detto: Perchè non mi edificate una casa con legno di cedro?
7 This is what you must say to my servant David: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I took you from thepasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel.	7 Or dunque così dirai al mio servo Davide: il Signore degli eserciti dice questo: Io ti presi, quando tu seguivi al pascolo il gregge, perchè tu fossi duce del mio popolo Israele;
8 I have been with you wherever you went; I have got rid of al your enemies for you. I am going to makeyour fame like that of the greatest men on earth.	8 e fui con te ovunque sei andato; ho ucciso tutti i tuoi nemici dinanzi a te, e ti ho procurato un nome simile a quello dei grandi che son celebrati sulla terra;
9 I am going to provide a place for my people Israel; I shal plant them there and there they will live andnever be disturbed again; nor wil they be oppressed by the wicked as they were in former times	9 e ho dato al popolo mio Israele un luogo, ove si pianterà e abiterà e non sarà più mosso, nè i figli dell'iniquità l'opprimeranno, come avvenne in principio,
10 ever since I instituted judges to govern my people Israel; I shall subdue al your enemies. Yahwehmoreover tel s you that he wil build you a dynasty.	10 nei giorni in cui diedi dei giudici al popolo mio Israele e umiliai tutti i suoi nemici. Io dunque ti annunzio che il Signore edificherà a te una casa.
11 And when your days are over and you have gone to join your ancestors, I shall appoint your heir --who wil be one of your sons -- to succeed you, and I shall make his sovereignty secure.	11 Quando avrai compiti i tuoi giorni e te ne andrai ai tuoi padri, io susciterò il tuo seme dopo di te. Egli sarà uno dei figli tuoi e io stabilirò il suo regno.
12 He wil build a temple for me and I shal make his throne secure for ever.	12 Egli mi edificherà una casa e io fisserò il suo trono per sempre.
13 I shal be his father and he wil be my son, and I shal not withdraw my favour from him, as I withdrewit from your predecessor.	13 Io gli sarò padre ed egli mi sarà figlio, e non ritirerò mai la mia misericordia da lui, come l'ebbi a togliere a colui che fu prima di te.
14 I shal set him over my temple and kingdom for ever and his throne wil be for ever secure." '	14 E lo stabilirò sempre nella mia casa e nel mio regno per tutta l'eternità, e il suo trono sarà reso stabile in perpetuo" -».
15 Nathan related al these words and this whole revelation to David.	15 Natan parlò a Davide conforme a tutte queste parole e a tutta questa visione che aveva avuto.
16 King David then went in, sat down in Yahweh's presence and said: 'Who am I, Yahweh God, andwhat is my lineage, that you have led me as far as this?	16 Essendo Davide venuto a mettersi al cospetto del Signore, disse: «Chi sono io, Signore Iddio, e che è la mia casa, perchè tu avessi a darmi tutto ciò?
17 Yet, to you, O God, this seemed too little, and now you extend your promises for your servant'sfamily into the distant future, making me see as it were a whole succession of men, and it is Yahweh Godhimself who raises it up.	17 Ma questo è sembrato ancora poco al tuo cospetto, e perciò hai parlato della casa del servo tuo anche per il futuro e ti degnasti di farmi oggetto di ammirazione dinanzi a tutti gli uomini, o Signore Iddio.
18 What more can David reply to you for the honour you have given to your servant? You yourself havesingled out your servant.	18 Che cosa potrà dire ancora Davide, mentre hai glorificato e guardato al servo tuo in tal maniera?
19 For your servant, and since you were so inclined, you have had the generosity to reveal al thisgreatness to come.	19 Signore, a cagione del tuo servo, secondo il cuor tuo, tu hai fatto tutte queste grandi cose e hai voluto che tutte queste meraviglie fossero conosciute.
20 Yahweh, there is no one like you, no God but you alone, as everything that we have heard confirms.	20 Signore, non v'ha chi sia simile a te, e non vi è altro Dio all'infuori di te, fra tutti quelli, dei quali abbiam sentito parlare.
21 Is there another people on earth like your people Israel, whom a god has proceeded to redeem, tomake them his people and to make them famous and do for them great and terrible deeds, by driving out nationsbefore your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? -	21 Vi è forse un altro popolo come il tuo popolo Israele, unica nazione sulla terra, alla quale siasi rivolto Iddio per liberarla e per farla suo popolo, e per scacciare colla sua potenza e coi castighi le nazioni dalla faccia di quel popolo, che aveva liberato dall'Egitto?
22 for you made your people Israel your own people for ever and you, Yahweh, became their God.	22 Ora tu hai stabilito il tuo popolo Israele, perchè divenisse tuo popolo in eterno; e tu, o Signore, ti sei fatto suo Dio.
23 'Now, Yahweh, may the promise which you have made for your servant and as regards his familyhold good for ever, and do as you have said.	23 Or dunque, o Signore, conferma in perpetuo la parola, che pronunciasti sul tuo servo e sopra la casa di lui, e fa' quello che hai detto.
24 May it hold good, so your name wil be exalted for ever and people wil say, "Israel's God is YahwehSabaoth; he is God for Israel." Your servant David's dynasty will be secure before you	24 Rimanga e sia glorificato il nome tuo per sempre e si dica: - Il Signore degli eserciti è il Dio d'Israele e la casa di Davide, suo servo, resta sempre dinanzi a lui;-
25 since you, my God, have disclosed to your servant that you are going to build him a dynasty. Hence,your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to you.	25 poichè tu, mio Signore e mio Dio, hai rivelato al tuo servo che gli edificherai una casa; perciò il tuo servo ha trovato la fiducia di pregare dinanzi a te.
26 Yes, Yahweh, you are God indeed, and you have made this generous promise to your servant.	26 Ora dunque, o Signore, tu sei Dio, e tu hai parlato al tuo servo annunciandogli tante grazie;
27 What is more, you have deigned to bless your servant's dynasty, so that it may remain for everbefore you; and since you, Yahweh, have blessed it, blessed will it be for ever.'	27 e hai cominciato a benedire la casa del tuo servo, affinchè essa sia sempre dinanzi a te; e benedetta da te, o Signore, essa sarà benedetta in eterno».
