NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 It happened, once David had settled into his palace, that David said to the prophet Nathan, 'Here am Iliving in a cedar-wood palace, while the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under awnings.'	1 Davide, quando si fu stabilito nella sua casa, disse al profeta Natan: «Ecco, io abito in una casa di cedro, mentre l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore sta sotto i teli di una tenda».
2 Nathan said to David, 'Do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you.'	2 Natan rispose a Davide: «Fa’ quanto hai in cuor tuo, perché Dio è con te».
3 But that very night the word of God came to Nathan, as fol ows:	3 Ma quella stessa notte fu rivolta a Natan questa parola di Dio:
4 'Go and tell my servant David, "Yahweh says this: You must not build a temple for me to live in.	4 «Va’ e di’ a Davide, mio servo: Così dice il Signore: “Non mi costruirai tu la casa per la mia dimora.
5 I have never lived in a house from the day when I brought Israel out until today, but have kepttravel ing from tent to tent and from shelter to shelter.	5 Io infatti non ho abitato in una casa da quando ho fatto salire Israele fino ad oggi. Io passai da una tenda all’altra e da un padiglione all’altro.
6 In al my travels with al Israel, did I say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I had commanded toshepherd my people: Why do you not build me a cedar-wood temple?	6 Durante tutto il tempo in cui ho camminato insieme con tutto Israele, ho forse mai detto ad alcuno dei giudici d’Israele, a cui avevo comandato di pascere il mio popolo: Perché non mi avete edificato una casa di cedro?”.
7 This is what you must say to my servant David: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I took you from thepasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel.	7 Ora dunque dirai al mio servo Davide: Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: “Io ti ho preso dal pascolo, mentre seguivi il gregge, perché tu fossi capo del mio popolo Israele.
8 I have been with you wherever you went; I have got rid of al your enemies for you. I am going to makeyour fame like that of the greatest men on earth.	8 Sono stato con te dovunque sei andato, ho distrutto tutti i tuoi nemici davanti a te e renderò il tuo nome come quello dei grandi che sono sulla terra.
9 I am going to provide a place for my people Israel; I shal plant them there and there they will live andnever be disturbed again; nor wil they be oppressed by the wicked as they were in former times	9 Fisserò un luogo per Israele, mio popolo, e ve lo pianterò perché vi abiti e non tremi più e i malfattori non lo rovinino come in passato,
10 ever since I instituted judges to govern my people Israel; I shall subdue al your enemies. Yahwehmoreover tel s you that he wil build you a dynasty.	10 come dai giorni in cui avevo stabilito dei giudici sopra il mio popolo Israele. Umilierò tutti i tuoi nemici e ti annuncio: una casa costruirà a te il Signore.
11 And when your days are over and you have gone to join your ancestors, I shall appoint your heir --who wil be one of your sons -- to succeed you, and I shall make his sovereignty secure.	11 Quando i tuoi giorni saranno compiuti e te ne andrai con i tuoi padri, io susciterò un tuo discendente dopo di te, uno dei tuoi figli, e renderò stabile il suo regno.
12 He wil build a temple for me and I shal make his throne secure for ever.	12 Egli mi edificherà una casa e io renderò stabile il suo trono per sempre.
13 I shal be his father and he wil be my son, and I shal not withdraw my favour from him, as I withdrewit from your predecessor.	13 Io sarò per lui padre ed egli sarà per me figlio; non ritirerò da lui il mio amore, come l’ho ritirato dal tuo predecessore.
14 I shal set him over my temple and kingdom for ever and his throne wil be for ever secure." '	14 Io lo farò stare saldo per sempre nella mia casa e nel mio regno; il suo trono sarà reso stabile per sempre”».
15 Nathan related al these words and this whole revelation to David.	15 Natan parlò a Davide secondo tutte queste parole e secondo tutta questa visione.
16 King David then went in, sat down in Yahweh's presence and said: 'Who am I, Yahweh God, andwhat is my lineage, that you have led me as far as this?	16 Allora il re Davide andò a presentarsi davanti al Signore e disse: «Chi sono io, Signore Dio, e che cos’è la mia casa, perché tu mi abbia condotto fin qui?
17 Yet, to you, O God, this seemed too little, and now you extend your promises for your servant'sfamily into the distant future, making me see as it were a whole succession of men, and it is Yahweh Godhimself who raises it up.	17 E questo è parso poca cosa ai tuoi occhi, o Dio: tu hai parlato della casa del tuo servo per un lontano avvenire; mi hai fatto contemplare come una successione di uomini in ascesa, Signore Dio!
18 What more can David reply to you for the honour you have given to your servant? You yourself havesingled out your servant.	18 Come può pretendere Davide di aggiungere qualcosa alla tua gloria? Tu conosci il tuo servo.
19 For your servant, and since you were so inclined, you have had the generosity to reveal al thisgreatness to come.	19 Signore, per amore del tuo servo e secondo il tuo cuore, hai compiuto tutte queste grandi cose, per manifestare tutte le tue meraviglie.
20 Yahweh, there is no one like you, no God but you alone, as everything that we have heard confirms.	20 Signore, nessuno è come te e non vi è altro Dio fuori di te, proprio come abbiamo udito con i nostri orecchi.
21 Is there another people on earth like your people Israel, whom a god has proceeded to redeem, tomake them his people and to make them famous and do for them great and terrible deeds, by driving out nationsbefore your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? -	21 E chi è come il tuo popolo, come Israele, unica nazione sulla terra che Dio è venuto a riscattare come popolo per sé e per procurarsi un nome grande e stabile? Tu hai scacciato le nazioni davanti al tuo popolo, che tu hai riscattato dalla nazione d’Egitto.
22 for you made your people Israel your own people for ever and you, Yahweh, became their God.	22 Hai reso il tuo popolo Israele popolo tuo per sempre, e tu, Signore, sei diventato Dio per loro.
23 'Now, Yahweh, may the promise which you have made for your servant and as regards his familyhold good for ever, and do as you have said.	23 Ora, Signore, la parola che hai pronunciato sul tuo servo e sulla sua casa resti per sempre e fa’ come hai detto.
24 May it hold good, so your name wil be exalted for ever and people wil say, "Israel's God is YahwehSabaoth; he is God for Israel." Your servant David's dynasty will be secure before you	24 Il tuo nome sia saldo e sia magnificato per sempre così: “Il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, è Dio per Israele!”. La casa di Davide, tuo servo, sia stabile davanti a te!
25 since you, my God, have disclosed to your servant that you are going to build him a dynasty. Hence,your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to you.	25 Poiché tu, Dio mio, hai rivelato al tuo servo l’intenzione di costruirgli una casa, per questo il tuo servo ha trovato l’ardire di pregare alla tua presenza.
26 Yes, Yahweh, you are God indeed, and you have made this generous promise to your servant.	26 Ora, Signore, tu sei Dio; hai fatto al tuo servo queste belle promesse.
27 What is more, you have deigned to bless your servant's dynasty, so that it may remain for everbefore you; and since you, Yahweh, have blessed it, blessed will it be for ever.'	27 Dégnati dunque di benedire ora la casa del tuo servo, perché sia sempre dinanzi a te! Poiché quanto tu, Signore, benedici, è sempre benedetto».
