1 Chronicles 17

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 It happened, once David had settled into his palace, that David said to the prophet Nathan, 'Here am Iliving in a cedar-wood palace, while the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under awnings.'	1 Cum autem habitaret David in domo sua, dixit ad Nathan prophetam: “ Ecce ego habito in domo cedrina, arca autem foederis Domini sub pellibus est ”.
2 Nathan said to David, 'Do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you.'	2 Et ait Nathan ad David: “ Omnia, quae in corde tuo sunt, fac; Deus enim tecum est ”.
3 But that very night the word of God came to Nathan, as fol ows:	3 Igitur nocte illa factus est sermo Dei ad Nathan dicens:
4 'Go and tell my servant David, "Yahweh says this: You must not build a temple for me to live in.	4 “ Vade et loquere David servo meo: Haec dicit Dominus: Non aedificabis tu mihi domum ad habitandum;
5 I have never lived in a house from the day when I brought Israel out until today, but have kepttravel ing from tent to tent and from shelter to shelter.	5 neque enim mansi in domo ex eo tempore, quo eduxi Israel usque ad hanc diem, sed fui semper migrans de tabernaculo in tabernaculum et de habitatione in habitationem.
6 In al my travels with al Israel, did I say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I had commanded toshepherd my people: Why do you not build me a cedar-wood temple?	6 Ubicumque ambulabam in omni Israel, numquid locutus sum uni iudicum Israel, quibus praeceperam, ut pascerent populum meum, et dixi: Quare non aedificastis mihi domum cedrinam?
7 This is what you must say to my servant David: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I took you from thepasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel.	7 Nunc itaque, sic loqueris ad servum meum David: Haec dicit Dominus exercituum: Ego tuli te, cum in pascuis sequereris gregem, ut esses dux populi mei Israel;
8 I have been with you wherever you went; I have got rid of al your enemies for you. I am going to makeyour fame like that of the greatest men on earth.	8 et fui tecum, quocumque perrexisti, et interfeci omnes inimicos tuos coram te fecique tibi nomen quasi unius magnorum, qui celebrantur in terra.
9 I am going to provide a place for my people Israel; I shal plant them there and there they will live andnever be disturbed again; nor wil they be oppressed by the wicked as they were in former times	9 Et dedi locum populo meo Israel et plantavi eum, ut habitaret in eo, et ultra non commovebitur, nec filii iniquitatis atterent eos sicut in principio
10 ever since I instituted judges to govern my people Israel; I shall subdue al your enemies. Yahwehmoreover tel s you that he wil build you a dynasty.	10 et ex diebus, quibus dedi iudices populo meo Israel et humiliavi universos inimicos tuos. Annuntio ergo tibi quod aedificaturus sit domum tibi Dominus.
11 And when your days are over and you have gone to join your ancestors, I shall appoint your heir --who wil be one of your sons -- to succeed you, and I shall make his sovereignty secure.	11 Cumque impleveris dies tuos, ut vadas ad patres tuos, suscitabo semen tuum post te, quod erit de filiis tuis, et stabiliam regnum eius.
12 He wil build a temple for me and I shal make his throne secure for ever.	12 Ipse aedificabit mihi domum, et firmabo solium eius usque in aeternum.
13 I shal be his father and he wil be my son, and I shal not withdraw my favour from him, as I withdrewit from your predecessor.	13 Ego ero ei in patrem, et ipse erit mihi in filium; et misericordiam meam non auferam ab eo, sicut abstuli ab eo, qui ante te fuit.
14 I shal set him over my temple and kingdom for ever and his throne wil be for ever secure." '	14 Et statuam eum in domo mea et in regno meo usque in sempiternum, et thronus eius erit firmissimus in perpetuum ”.
15 Nathan related al these words and this whole revelation to David.	15 Iuxta omnia verba haec et iuxta universam visionem istam, sic locutus est Nathan ad David.
16 King David then went in, sat down in Yahweh's presence and said: 'Who am I, Yahweh God, andwhat is my lineage, that you have led me as far as this?	16 Cumque venisset rex David et sedisset coram Domino, dixit: “ Quis ego sum, Domine Deus, et quae domus mea, quia adduxisti me hucusque?
17 Yet, to you, O God, this seemed too little, and now you extend your promises for your servant'sfamily into the distant future, making me see as it were a whole succession of men, and it is Yahweh Godhimself who raises it up.	17 Sed hoc parum visum est in conspectu tuo, Deus; ideoque locutus es super domum servi tui etiam in futurum et aspexisti me excelsum super ordinem hominum, Domine Deus.
18 What more can David reply to you for the honour you have given to your servant? You yourself havesingled out your servant.	18 Quid ultra addere potest David, cum ita glorificaveris servum tuum et cognoveris eum?
19 For your servant, and since you were so inclined, you have had the generosity to reveal al thisgreatness to come.	19 Domine, propter famulum tuum iuxta cor tuum fecisti omnem magnificentiam hanc; et nota esse voluisti universa magnalia.
20 Yahweh, there is no one like you, no God but you alone, as everything that we have heard confirms.	20 Domine, non est similis tui, et non est alius deus absque te secundum omnia, quae audivimus auribus nostris.
21 Is there another people on earth like your people Israel, whom a god has proceeded to redeem, tomake them his people and to make them famous and do for them great and terrible deeds, by driving out nationsbefore your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? -	21 Quis autem est alius ut populus tuus Israel, gens una in terra, ad quam perrexit Deus, ut liberaret sibi populum, ut faceres tibi nomen magnum et terribile eiciens nationes a facie populi tui, quem de Aegypto liberasti?
22 for you made your people Israel your own people for ever and you, Yahweh, became their God.	22 Et posuisti populum tuum Israel tibi in populum usque in aeternum; et tu, Domine, factus es Deus eius.
23 'Now, Yahweh, may the promise which you have made for your servant and as regards his familyhold good for ever, and do as you have said.	23 Nunc igitur, Domine, sermo, quem locutus es super famulum tuum et super domum eius, confirmetur in perpetuum; et fac, sicut locutus es.
24 May it hold good, so your name wil be exalted for ever and people wil say, "Israel's God is YahwehSabaoth; he is God for Israel." Your servant David's dynasty will be secure before you	24 Permaneatque et magnificetur nomen tuum usque in sempiternum, et dicatur: “Dominus exercituum, Deus Israel, est Deus pro Israel, et domus David servi tui permanens coram te”.
25 since you, my God, have disclosed to your servant that you are going to build him a dynasty. Hence,your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to you.	25 Tu enim, Deus meus, revelasti auriculam servi tui, ut aedificares ei domum; et idcirco invenit servus tuus fiduciam, ut oret coram te.
26 Yes, Yahweh, you are God indeed, and you have made this generous promise to your servant.	26 Nunc ergo, Domine, tu es Deus; et locutus es super servum tuum tanta beneficia
27 What is more, you have deigned to bless your servant's dynasty, so that it may remain for everbefore you; and since you, Yahweh, have blessed it, blessed will it be for ever.'	27 et coepisti benedicere domui servi tui, ut sit semper coram te: te enim, Domine, benedicente, benedicta erit in perpetuum ”.
