1 Chronicles 17

1 It happened, once David had settled into his palace, that David said to the prophet Nathan, 'Here am Iliving in a cedar-wood palace, while the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under awnings.'	1 Davidde essendo fermo in sua casa, disse a Nathan profeta: Ecco, che io abito in una casa di cedro: e l'arca del testamento del Signore sta sotto le pelli.
2 Nathan said to David, 'Do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you.'	2 E Nathan disse a Davidde: Fa tutto quello, che il cuor t'ispira: perocché il Signore è con te.
3 But that very night the word of God came to Nathan, as fol ows:	3 Ma quella stessa notte Dio parlò a Nathan, e disse:
4 'Go and tell my servant David, "Yahweh says this: You must not build a temple for me to live in.	4 Va, e dì a Davidde mio servo: Queste cose dice il Signore: Tu non edificherai la casa di mia abitazione.
5 I have never lived in a house from the day when I brought Israel out until today, but have kepttravel ing from tent to tent and from shelter to shelter.	5 Imperocché io non ho mai avuto casa dal dì, in cui trassi Israele (fuor dell'Egitto), sino a questo giorno: ma andai sempre cangiando il luogo di mia residenza, e standomi sotto una tenda con tutto Israele.
6 In al my travels with al Israel, did I say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I had commanded toshepherd my people: Why do you not build me a cedar-wood temple?	6 Ho io parlato giammai ad alcuno de' giudici a Israele, ai quali diedi incombenza di governare il mio popolo, e gli ho io detto: Perchè non mi avete voi fatta una casa di cedro?
7 This is what you must say to my servant David: Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I took you from thepasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel.	7 Adesso adunque tu dirai a David de mio servo: Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti: Io ti elessi, allorché tu menavi al pascolo il gregge, per farti condottiere del popol mio d'Israele.
8 I have been with you wherever you went; I have got rid of al your enemies for you. I am going to makeyour fame like that of the greatest men on earth.	8 E sono stato con te in tutti ì tuoi passi: e ho distrutti tutti i tuoi nemici dinanzi a te, e ti ho dato rinomanza quale può averla uno de grandi, che son famosi sulla terra.
9 I am going to provide a place for my people Israel; I shal plant them there and there they will live andnever be disturbed again; nor wil they be oppressed by the wicked as they were in former times	9 E io ho assegnato abitazione al mio popolo d'Israele: ivi egli è piantato, e vi resterà, e non saranne staccato mai più: e i figliuoli d'iniquità non lo opprimeranno, come una volta.
10 ever since I instituted judges to govern my people Israel; I shall subdue al your enemies. Yahwehmoreover tel s you that he wil build you a dynasty.	10 Da quel tempo, in cui io diedi de giudici al popol mio d'Israele, e umiliai tutti i tuoi nemici. Io adunque ti fo da sapere, che il Signore fonderà stabile la tua casa.
11 And when your days are over and you have gone to join your ancestors, I shall appoint your heir --who wil be one of your sons -- to succeed you, and I shall make his sovereignty secure.	11 E quando, compiuti ì tuoi giorni, tu sarai andato a riunirti co' padri tuoi, Dio farà sorgere dopo di te uno di tua stirpe, il quale sarà de' tuoi discendenti, e darò a lui un regno perenne.
12 He wil build a temple for me and I shal make his throne secure for ever.	12 Egli mi edificherà una casa, e io farò stabile il suo trono in eterno.
13 I shal be his father and he wil be my son, and I shal not withdraw my favour from him, as I withdrewit from your predecessor.	13 Io sarogli padre, ed ei sarammi figliuolo: e non sottrarrò a lui la mia misericordia, come la sottrassi a colui che fu prima di te.
14 I shal set him over my temple and kingdom for ever and his throne wil be for ever secure." '	14 E io gli darò il governo della mia casa, e del mio regno in eterno: e immobile sarà il suo trono in perpetuo.
15 Nathan related al these words and this whole revelation to David.	15 Nathan espose a Davidde tutte queste parole, e tutta questa visione.
16 King David then went in, sat down in Yahweh's presence and said: 'Who am I, Yahweh God, andwhat is my lineage, that you have led me as far as this?	16 Ed essendo il re Davidde andato dinanzi al Signore, e postosi a sedere,disse: Chi son io, o Signore Dio, e che è la mia casa, onde tu dovessi far cose tali per me?
17 Yet, to you, O God, this seemed too little, and now you extend your promises for your servant'sfamily into the distant future, making me see as it were a whole succession of men, and it is Yahweh Godhimself who raises it up.	17 Ma questo è paruto ancor poco a te; e per questo hai parlato intorno alla casa del tuo servo, anche pe' tempi avvenire: e mi hai renduto stimabile sopra tutti gli uomini, Signore Dio,
18 What more can David reply to you for the honour you have given to your servant? You yourself havesingled out your servant.	18 Che può egli chiedere di più Davidde, avendo tu glorificato a tal segno il tuo servo, e mostratogli il tuo affetto?
19 For your servant, and since you were so inclined, you have had the generosity to reveal al thisgreatness to come.	19 Signore, tu per amor del tuo servo, secondo il tuo beneplacito, hai agito con tanta magnificenza, e hai voluto,che fossero note (a lui) tutte queste meraviglie.
20 Yahweh, there is no one like you, no God but you alone, as everything that we have heard confirms.	20 Signore, non havvi simile a te; né altro Dio vi è fuori di te tra tutti quelli, de' quali abbiam sentito parlare.
21 Is there another people on earth like your people Israel, whom a god has proceeded to redeem, tomake them his people and to make them famous and do for them great and terrible deeds, by driving out nationsbefore your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? -	21 Perocché qual altro popolo è egli come il tuo d'Israele, nazione unica sopra la terra, per cui liberare si mosse Dio, e per farla suo popolo, discacciando colla sua possanza, e co' terrori le genti dinanzi a questo popolo liberato da lui dall'Egitto?
22 for you made your people Israel your own people for ever and you, Yahweh, became their God.	22 E per tuo popolo eleggesti in sempiterno Israele, e tu, Signore divenisti suo Dio.
23 'Now, Yahweh, may the promise which you have made for your servant and as regards his familyhold good for ever, and do as you have said.	23 Adesso adunque, o Signore, confermata sia in perpetuo la parola annunziata da te riguardo al tuo servo, e riguardo alla sua casa; e fa tu quello, che hai detto:
24 May it hold good, so your name wil be exalted for ever and people wil say, "Israel's God is YahwehSabaoth; he is God for Israel." Your servant David's dynasty will be secure before you	24 E ne segua l'effetto, affinchè sia magnificato il tuo nome in perpetuo, e si dica: Il Signore degli eserciti (egli è) il Dio d'Israele, e la casa di David suo servo si mantiene dinanzi a lui.
25 since you, my God, have disclosed to your servant that you are going to build him a dynasty. Hence,your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to you.	25 Perocché tu, o Signore Dio mio, hai rivelato al tuo servo di volere fondare la sua casa: e per questo il tuo servo ha avuta fidanza di fare questa preghiera dinanzi a te.
26 Yes, Yahweh, you are God indeed, and you have made this generous promise to your servant.	26 Adesso adunque, o Signore, tu se', Dio, e hai annunziati favori sì grandi, al tuo servo.
27 What is more, you have deigned to bless your servant's dynasty, so that it may remain for everbefore you; and since you, Yahweh, have blessed it, blessed will it be for ever.'	27 E hai principiato a benedire la casa del servo tuo, affinchè ella si manotenga per sempre dinanzi a te: perocché benedicendola tu, o Signore, sarà ella benedetta in perpetuo.
