1 David again mustered al the picked troops of Israel, thirty thousand men.	1 David rassembla alors 30 000 hommes, toute l’élite d’Israël,
2 Setting off with the whole force then with him, David went to Baalah of Judah, from there to bring up theark of God, who bears the title 'Yahweh Sabaoth, enthroned on the winged creatures'.	2 et il se mit en route pour Baala de Juda, accompagné de tout son peuple. Il voulait ramener l’Arche de Dieu sur laquelle a été déposé le Nom de Yahvé Sabaot, celui qui siège sur les Chérubins.
3 They transported the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of Abinadab's house which is on thehil . Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the cart,	3 On plaça l’Arche de Dieu sur un chariot neuf: on l’avait retirée de chez Abinadab, au sommet de la colline. Ouza et Ahyo, les fils d’Abinadab, conduisaient le chariot:
4 Uzzah walked alongside the ark of God and Ahio went in front.	4 Ouza marchait à côté de l’Arche de Dieu et Ahyo allait devant elle.
5 David and the whole House of Israel danced before Yahweh with al their might, singing to theaccompaniment of harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.	5 David et tous les Israélites dansaient devant Yahvé, de toutes leurs forces; ils chantaient au son des guitares, des harpes, des tambourins, des cymbales et de toute sorte d’instruments.
6 When they came to Nacon's threshing-floor, Uzzah reached his hand out to the ark of God andsteadied it, as the oxen were making it tilt.	6 Au moment où l’on approchait de l’aire de Nakon, les bœufs firent un faux pas: Ouza voulut retenir l’Arche de Dieu et il porta la main sur elle.
7 This roused Yahweh's anger against Uzzah, and for this crime God struck him down on the spot, andthere he died beside the ark of God.	7 Alors Yahvé se mit en colère contre Ouza et Dieu le frappa sur-le-champ: il mourut là à côté de l’Arche de Dieu.
8 David resented Yahweh's having broken out against Uzzah, and the place was given the name Perez-Uzzah, which it still has today.	8 David était indigné de ce que Yahvé ait transpercé Ouza; depuis cet incident ce lieu s’est appelé Pérez-Ouza.
9 That day David felt afraid of Yahweh. 'How can the ark of Yahweh come to be with me?' he said.	9 Ce jour-là David eut une vraie crainte de Yahvé, il se dit: “Comment l’Arche de Yahvé entrerait-elle chez moi?”
10 So David decided not to take the ark of Yahweh with him into the city of David but diverted it to thehouse of Obed-Edom of Gath.	10 David ne voulut donc pas garder l’Arche de Yahvé chez lui, dans la cité de David; il la fit conduire chez Obed-Édom de Gat.
11 The ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-Edom of Gath for three months, and Yahwehblessed Obed-Edom and his whole family.	11 L’Arche de Yahvé resta ainsi trois mois chez Obed-Édom de Gat, et Yahvé bénit Obed-Édom et toute sa famille.
12 King David was informed that Yahweh had blessed Obed-Edom's family and everything belonging tohim on account of the ark of God. David accordingly went and, amid great rejoicing, brought the ark of God upfrom Obed-Edom's house to the City of David.	12 On fit savoir au roi David que Yahvé bénissait la famille d’Obed-Édom et tout ce qui lui appartenait à cause de l’Arche de Dieu.” Alors David s’y rendit et, en grande joie, il fit monter l’Arche de Dieu depuis la maison d’Obed-Édom jusqu’à la cité de David.
13 When the bearers of the ark of Yahweh had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fat sheep.	13 Les hommes qui portaient l’Arche de Yahvé firent les six premiers pas: on offrit alors en sacrifice un bœuf et un veau gras.
14 And David danced whirling round before Yahweh with al his might, wearing a linen loincloth.	14 David dansait et tournait de toutes ses forces devant Yahvé, il portait le pagne de lin.
15 Thus with war cries and blasts on the horn, David and the entire House of Israel brought up the ark ofYahweh.	15 David et tous les Israélites firent ainsi monter l’Arche de Yahvé au son de la fanfare et du cor.
16 Now as the ark of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul was watching from thewindow and when she saw King David leaping and whirling round before Yahweh, the sight of him fil ed her withcontempt.	16 Lorsque l’Arche entra dans la cité de David, Mikal, fille de Saül regarda par la fenêtre. Elle vit le roi qui sautait et tournait devant Yahvé, et elle le méprisa dans son cœur.
17 They brought the ark of Yahweh in and put it in position, inside the tent which David had erected for it;and David presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices in Yahweh's presence.	17 Voici donc qu’on amène l’Arche de Yahvé; on l’installe à sa place au milieu de la tente que David a dressée pour elle et David offre à Yahvé des holocaustes et des sacrifices de communion.
18 And when David had finished presenting burnt offerings, he blessed the people in the name ofYahweh Sabaoth.	18 Lorsque David a achevé d’offrir des holocaustes et des sacrifices de communion, il bénit le peuple au nom de Yahvé Sabaot,
19 To al the people, to the whole multitude of Israelites, men and women, he then distributed to each aloaf of bread, a portion of dates and a raisin cake. Then the people al went back to their homes.	19 puis il distribue à tout le monde, à tous les Israélites, aux hommes comme aux femmes, à chacun un gâteau, une part de viande, une pâte de raisin sec, et tout le monde repart chez soi.
20 As David was coming back to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him.'Much honour the king of Israel has won today,' she said, 'making an exhibition of himself under the eyes of hisservant-maids, making an exhibition of himself like a buffoon!'	20 David aussi retourna pour bénir sa maison. Alors Mikal, la fille de Saül, sortit au-devant de David et lui dit: “Vraiment, le roi d’Israël s’est couvert de gloire aujourd’hui! Tu t’es découvert sous les yeux des femmes de tes serviteurs, comme le ferait un homme de rien.”
21 David replied to Michal, 'I was dancing for Yahweh, not for them. As Yahweh lives, who chose me inpreference to your father and his whole family to make me leader of Israel, Yahweh's people, I shal dancebefore Yahweh and	21 Mais David répondit à Mikal: “Je dansais en présence de Yahvé. Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant, lui qui m’a choisi de préférence à ton père et à toute sa famille, pour faire de moi le chef de son peuple Israël, je danserai encore en présence de Yahvé.
22 lower myself even further than that. In your eyes I may be base, but by the maids you speak of, bythem, I shal be held in honour!'	22 Je m’abaisserai plus encore et à tes yeux je ne serai rien, mais je serai grand aux yeux de ces femmes dont tu as parlé.”
23 And to the day of her death, Michal, daughter of Saul, had no children.	23 Et Mikal, fille de Saül, n’eut pas d’enfant jusqu’à sa mort.
