2 Samuel 5

1 Al the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Et venerunt universae tribus Is rael ad David in Hebron dicen tes: “ Ecce nos os tuum et caro tua sumus.
2 In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and to you it was thatYahweh promised, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of Israel." '	2 Sed et heri et nudiustertius, cum esset Saul rex super nos, tu eras educens et reducens Israel. Dixit autem Dominus ad te: “Tu pasces populum meum Israel et tu eris dux super Israel” ”.
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them inYahweh's presence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel.	3 Venerunt quoque omnes senes Israel ad regem in Hebron, et percussit cum eis rex David foedus in Hebron coram Domino; unxeruntque David in regem super Israel.
4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years.	4 Triginta annorum erat David, cum regnare coepisset, et quadraginta annis regnavit:
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; then he reigned in Jerusalem over allIsrael and Judah for thirty-three years.	5 in Hebron regnavit super Iudam septem annis et sex mensibus; in Ierusalem autem regnavit triginta tribus annis super omnem Israel et Iudam.
6 The king and his men then marched on Jerusalem, on the Jebusites living in the territory. These said toDavid, 'You wil not get in here. The blind and the lame wil hold you off.' (That is to say: David will never get inhere.)	6 Et abiit rex et omnes viri, qui erant cum eo, in Ierusalem ad Iebusaeum habitatorem terrae. Qui dixit ad David: “Non ingredieris huc, sed depellent te caeci et claudi ”, significantes: “ Non ingredietur David huc ”.
7 But David captured the citadel of Zion, that is, the City of David.	7 Cepit autem David arcem Sion: haec est civitas David.
8 That day, David said, 'Whoever gets up the tunnel and kil s a Jebusite . . .' As for the blind and thelame, David hated them with his whole being. (Hence the saying: the blind and the lame may not enter theTemple.)	8 Dixerat enim David in die illa: “ Omnis, qui percutiet Iebusaeum, attingat per cuniculum fontis claudos et caecos exosos animae David ”. 9 David went to live in the citadel and cal ed it the City of David. David then built a wal round it, from theMil o inwards.	9 Habitavit autem David in arce et vocavit eam Civitatem David; et aedificavit per gyrum a Mello et intrinsecus.
10 David grew stronger and stronger, and Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, was with him.	10 Et ibat proficiens atque succrescens, et Dominus, Deus exercituum, erat cum eo.
11 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, carpenters and stone-cutters, who builtDavid a palace.	11 Misit quoque Hiram rex Tyri nuntios ad David et ligna cedrina et artifices lignorum artificesque lapidum pro parietibus; et aedificaverunt domum David.
12 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his peopleIsrael, had extended his sovereignty.	12 Et cognovit David quoniam confirmasset eum Dominus regem super Israel et quoniam exaltasset regnum eius super populum suum Israel.
13 After coming from Hebron, David took other concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and sons anddaughters were born to him.	13 Accepitque David adhuc concubinas et uxores de Ierusalem, postquam venerat de Hebron; natique sunt David et alii filii et filiae.
14 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	14 Et haec nomina eorum, qui nati sunt ei in Ierusalem: Samua et Sobab et Nathan et Salomon
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,	15 et Iebahar et Elisua et Napheg
16 Elishama, Eliada, Eliphelet.	16 et Iaphia et Elisama et Eliada et Eliphalet.
17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of Israel, they all went up to seekhim out. On hearing this, David went down to the stronghold.	17 Audierunt vero Philisthim quod unxissent David regem super Israel et ascenderunt universi, ut quaererent David. Quod cum audisset David, descendit in praesidium;
18 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.	18 Philisthim autem venientes diffusi sunt in valle Raphaim.
19 David consulted Yahweh and asked, 'Shal I attack the Philistines? Wil you deliver them into mypower?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Attack! I shal certainly deliver the Philistines into your power.'	19 Et consuluit David Dominum dicens: “ Si ascendam ad Philisthim? Et si dabis eos in manu mea? ”. Et dixit Dominus ad David: “Ascende, quia tradens dabo Philisthim in manu tua ”.
20 Accordingly, David went to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. He said, 'Yahweh has madea breach in my enemies for me, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the place was giventhe name Baal-Perazim.	20 Venit ergo David in Baalpharasim (id est Dominus diruptionum); et percussit eos ibi et dixit: “Divisit Dominus inimicos meos coram me, sicut dividuntur aquae ”. Propterea vocatum est nomen loci illius Baalpharasim.
21 They had left their gods behind them there, and David and his men carried them off.	21 Et reliquerunt ibi sculptilia sua, quae tulit David et viri eius.
22 Again the Philistines invaded and deployed in the Valley of the Rephaim.	22 Et addiderunt adhuc Philisthim ut ascenderent et diffusi sunt in valle Raphaim.
23 David consulted Yahweh, who replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round to their rear andengage them opposite the balsam trees.	23 Consuluit autem David Dominum, qui respondit: “ Non ascendas, sed gyra post tergum eorum et venies ad eos ex adverso arborum celthium
24 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, advance, for that wil beYahweh going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'	24 et, cum audieris sonitum gradientis in cacumine arborum celthium, tunc inibis proelium, quia tunc egredietur Dominus ante faciem tuam, ut percutiat castra Philisthim ”.
25 David did as Yahweh had ordered and beat the Philistines from Gibeon to the Pass of Gezer.	25 Fecit itaque David, sicut praeceperat ei Dominus; et percussit Philisthim de Gabaon usque dum venias Gazer.
