NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Al the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Todas las tribus de Israel se presentaron a David en Hebrón y le dijeron: «¡Nosotros somos de tu misma sangre!
2 In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and to you it was thatYahweh promised, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of Israel." '	2 Hace ya mucho tiempo, cuando aún teníamos como rey a Saúl, eras tú el que conducía a Israel. Y el Señor te ha dicho: «Tú apacentarás a mi pueblo Israel y tú serás el jefe de Israel».
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them inYahweh's presence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel.	3 Todos los ancianos de Israel se presentaron ante el rey en Hebrón. El rey estableció con ellos un pacto en Hebrón, delante del Señor, y ellos ungieron a David como rey de Israel.
4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years.	4 David tenía treinta años cuando comenzó a reinar y reinó cuarenta años.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; then he reigned in Jerusalem over allIsrael and Judah for thirty-three years.	5 En Hebrón reinó siete años y seis meses sobre Judá, y en Jerusalén, treinta y tres años sobre todo Israel y Judá.
6 The king and his men then marched on Jerusalem, on the Jebusites living in the territory. These said toDavid, 'You wil not get in here. The blind and the lame wil hold you off.' 8 That day, David said, 'Whoever gets up the tunnel and kil s a Jebusite . . .' As for the blind and thelame, David hated them with his whole being. (Hence the saying: the blind and the lame may not enter theTemple.)	8 Aquel día, él había dicho: «El que quiera derrotar a los jebuseos, que se meta por el canal. En cuanto a los ciegos y a los inválidos, David siente aversión por ellos». Por eso se dice: «El ciego y el lisiado no entrarán en la Casa».
9 David went to live in the citadel and cal ed it the City of David. David then built a wal round it, from theMil o inwards.	9 David se instaló en la fortaleza, y la llamó Ciudad de David. Luego construyó la ciudad en derredor, desde el Terraplén hacia el interior.
10 David grew stronger and stronger, and Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, was with him.	10 Así David se iba engrandeciendo cada vez más, y el Señor, el Dios de los ejércitos, estaba con él.
11 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, carpenters and stone-cutters, who builtDavid a palace.	11 Jiram, rey de Tiro, envió una embajada a David, con madera de cedro, carpinteros y talladores de piedra, para que le edificaran una casa.
12 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his peopleIsrael, had extended his sovereignty.	12 David reconoció entonces que el Señor lo había confirmado como rey de Israel y que había enaltecido su realeza por amor a su pueblo Israel.
13 After coming from Hebron, David took other concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and sons anddaughters were born to him.	13 David tomó otras concubinas y esposas después que llegó a Hebrón, y le nacieron más hijos e hijas.
14 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	14 Estos son los nombres de los hijos que tuvo en Jerusalén: Samúa, Sobab, Natán, Salomón,
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,	15 Ibjar, Elisúa, Néfeg, Iafía,

17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of Israel, they all went up to seekhim out. On hearing this, David went down to the stronghold.	17 Cuando los filisteos oyeron que habían ungido a David rey de Israel, subieron todos para atacarlo. David se enteró y bajó al refugio.
18 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.	18 Los filisteos llegaron y se desplegaron en el valle de Refaím.
19 David consulted Yahweh and asked, 'Shal I attack the Philistines? Wil you deliver them into mypower?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Attack! I shal certainly deliver the Philistines into your power.'	19 Entonces David consultó al Señor, diciendo: «¿Debo subir contra los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mis manos?». El Señor respondió a David: «Sube, porque ciertamente pondré a los filisteos en tus manos».
20 Accordingly, David went to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. He said, 'Yahweh has madea breach in my enemies for me, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the place was giventhe name Baal-Perazim.	20 En seguida David se dirigió hacia Baal Perasím, y allí los derrotó, David dijo: «El Señor ha abierto ante mí una brecha entre mis enemigos, como una brecha abierta por las aguas».
21 They had left their gods behind them there, and David and his men carried them off.	21 Como los filisteos habían abandonado allí sus ídolos, David y sus hombres se los llevaron.
22 Again the Philistines invaded and deployed in the Valley of the Rephaim.	22 Luego los filisteos subieron una vez más, y se desplegaron por el valle de Refaím.
23 David consulted Yahweh, who replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round to their rear andengage them opposite the balsam trees.	23 David consultó al Señor, y él respondió: «No subas de frente; da una vuelta por detrás de ellos, y atácalos por el lado de las moreras.
24 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, advance, for that wil beYahweh going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'	24 Cuando oigas un ruido como de pasos por las copas de las moreras, irrumpe decididamente, porque entonces el Señor saldrá delante de ti para derrotar el campamento de los filisteos».
25 David did as Yahweh had ordered and beat the Philistines from Gibeon to the Pass of Gezer.	25 David lo hizo tal como se lo había ordenado el Señor, y derrotó a los filisteos desde Gabaón hasta la entrada de Guezer.
