1 Al the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Elment erre Izrael valamennyi törzse Dávidhoz Hebronba, hogy mondja: »Íme, mi a te csontod, s a te húsod vagyunk.
2 In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and to you it was thatYahweh promised, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of Israel." '	2 Tegnap is, tegnapelőtt is, amikor Saul volt a királyunk, te vezetted ki és be Izraelt, s az Úr azt mondta neked: ‘Te legeltesd népemet, Izraelt, s te légy Izrael fejedelme.’«
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them inYahweh's presence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel.	3 Elmentek tehát Izrael vénei a királyhoz Hebronba, s Dávid király szövetséget kötött velük Hebronban az Úr előtt, ők pedig felkenték Dávidot Izrael királyává.
4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years.	4 Harmincesztendős volt Dávid, amikor uralkodni kezdett, és negyven esztendeig uralkodott.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; then he reigned in Jerusalem over allIsrael and Judah for thirty-three years.	5 Hebronban, Júda felett, hét esztendeig és hat hónapig uralkodott, Jeruzsálemben pedig, egész Izrael és Júda felett, harminchárom esztendeig uralkodott.
6 The king and his men then marched on Jerusalem, on the Jebusites living in the territory. These said toDavid, 'You wil not get in here. The blind and the lame wil hold you off.' (That is to say: David will never get inhere.)	6 Felvonult ugyanis a király s mindazok az emberek, akik vele voltak, Jeruzsálembe, a jebuziták, azon föld lakói ellen. Erre azok azt üzenték Dávidnak: »Ide ugyan be nem jutsz, hacsak el nem távolítod a vakokat és sántákat, akik azt mondják: ‘Ide ugyan be nem jut Dávid.’«
7 But David captured the citadel of Zion, that is, the City of David.	7 Dávid mindazonáltal bevette Sion várát, azaz a Dávid-várost.
8 That day, David said, 'Whoever gets up the tunnel and kil s a Jebusite . . .' As for the blind and thelame, David hated them with his whole being. (Hence the saying: the blind and the lame may not enter theTemple.)	8 Jutalmat ígért ugyanis Dávid azon a napon annak, aki megveri a jebuzitákat, s eléri a tetőcsatornákat, s eltávolítja a vakokat és sántákat, Dávid lelkének gyűlölőit. Ezért mondja a közmondás: »Vak és sánta nem jut vissza a templomba!«
9 David went to live in the citadel and cal ed it the City of David. David then built a wal round it, from theMil o inwards.	9 Dávid aztán megtelepedett a várban és elnevezte azt Dávid-városnak, s kiépítette a Millótól körös-körül és befelé,
10 David grew stronger and stronger, and Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, was with him.	10 és mindinkább gyarapodott és növekedett, mert az Úr, a Seregek Istene vele volt.
11 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, carpenters and stone-cutters, who builtDavid a palace.	11 Erre Hírám, Tírusz királya követeket, majd cédrusfát, ácsokat és kőműveseket küldött Dávidhoz, és azok palotát építettek Dávidnak.
12 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his peopleIsrael, had extended his sovereignty.	12 Ekkor Dávid megértette, hogy az Úr megerősítette őt Izrael királyául, s hogy felmagasztalta népén, Izraelen való királyságát.
13 After coming from Hebron, David took other concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and sons anddaughters were born to him.	13 Jeruzsálemben, miután Hebronból odaköltözött, Dávid még vett magának mellékfeleségeket és feleségeket, s így még születtek Dávidnak fiai és lányai.
14 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	14 Azoknak a neve, akik Jeruzsálemben születtek neki, a következő volt: Sámua, Sobáb, Nátán, Salamon,
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,	15 Jibhár, Elisua, Nefeg,

17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of Israel, they all went up to seekhim out. On hearing this, David went down to the stronghold.	17 Amikor a filiszteusok meghallották, hogy Dávidot Izrael királyává kenték, valamennyien felvonultak, hogy halálra keressék Dávidot. Amint ezt Dávid meghallotta, levonult a várba.
18 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.	18 Amikor aztán a filiszteusok megérkeztek, és ellepték a Refaim völgyet,
19 David consulted Yahweh and asked, 'Shal I attack the Philistines? Wil you deliver them into mypower?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Attack! I shal certainly deliver the Philistines into your power.'	19 Dávid megkérdezte az Urat: »Felvonuljak-e a filiszteusok ellen? Kezembe adod-e őket?« Azt mondta erre az Úr Dávidnak: »Vonulj fel, mert kezedbe adom a filiszteusokat.«
20 Accordingly, David went to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. He said, 'Yahweh has madea breach in my enemies for me, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the place was giventhe name Baal-Perazim.	20 Erre Dávid elment Baál Fáraszimba, s ott megverte őket, és azt mondta: »Eloszlatta az Úr ellenségeimet előttem, mint ahogy eloszlik a víz.« Ezért nevezte el azt a helyet Baál Fáraszimnak.
21 They had left their gods behind them there, and David and his men carried them off.	21 A filiszteusok otthagyták bálványaikat is, és Dávid és emberei felszedték azokat.
22 Again the Philistines invaded and deployed in the Valley of the Rephaim.	22 Ám a filiszteusok ismét felvonultak, s ellepték a Refaim völgyet.
23 David consulted Yahweh, who replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round to their rear andengage them opposite the balsam trees.	23 Erre Dávid megkérdezte az Urat: »Felvonuljak-e a filiszteusok ellen, s kezembe adod-e őket?« Ő azt felelte: »Ne vonulj fel ellenük, hanem kerülj a hátuk mögé, s a körtefák felől közelítsd meg őket,
24 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, advance, for that wil beYahweh going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'	24 s ha majd lépések neszét hallod a körtefák teteje felől, akkor indulj hadba, mert akkor vonul ki színed előtt az Úr, hogy megverje a filiszteusok táborát.«
25 David did as Yahweh had ordered and beat the Philistines from Gibeon to the Pass of Gezer.	25 Úgy tett tehát Dávid, ahogy az Úr parancsolta neki, s verte a filiszteusokat Gibeától egészen Gézer bejáratáig.
