1 Thus heaven and earth were completed with al their array.	1 - Così furono compiuti i cieli e la terra, ed ogni loro ornamento.
2 On the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing. He rested on the seventh dayafter al the work he had been doing.	2 E finì Dio al settimo giorno l'opera da lui creata; e si riposò nel settimo giorno da tutto il lavoro che aveva fatto.
3 God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he rested after al his work ofcreating.	3 E benedisse il giorno settimo, e lo consacrò, perché in esso aveva Dio cessato da ogni opera che aveva creata e fatta.
4 Such was the story of heaven and earth as they were created. At the time when Yahweh God madeearth and heaven	4 Queste sono le origini del cielo e della terra, quando furon creati, nel giorno in che il Signore Dio fece il cielo e la terra,
5 there was as yet no wild bush on the earth nor had any wild plant yet sprung up, for Yahweh God hadnot sent rain on the earth, nor was there any man to til the soil.	5 ed ogni virgulto del campo prima che sulla terra nascesse, ed ogni erba della campagna prima che germogliasse. Perché il Signore Dio non aveva ancora fatto piovere sulla terra, né v'era uomo che la lavorasse;
6 Instead, water flowed out of the ground and watered al the surface of the soil.	6 ma una fonte saliva dalla terra, e ne irrigava tutta la superficie.
7 Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, andman became a living being.	7 Formò dunque il Signore Dio l'uomo dal fango della terra, e gli inspirò in faccia lo spirito della vita, e l'uomo divenne persona vivente.
8 Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the east, and there he put the man he hadfashioned.	8 Ora il Signore Dio sin da principio aveva piantato un paradiso di delizia; ivi pose l'uomo da lui formato.
9 From the soil, Yahweh God caused to grow every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat, withthe tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.	9 Produsse il Signore Dio dalla terra ogni albero bello a vedersi e buono a mangiarsi; inoltre, l'albero della vita nel mezzo del paradiso, e l'albero della scienza del bene e del male.
10 A river flowed from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided to make four streams.	10 E dal luogo di delizia usciva ad irrigare il paradiso un fiume, che di poi si divide in quattro rami.
11 The first is named the Pishon, and this winds al through the land of Havilah where there is gold.	11 Il primo ha nome Fison; è quello che circonda l'intera terra di Hevilat donde si cava l'oro,
12 The gold of this country is pure; bdel ium and cornelian stone are found there.	12 e l'oro di quella terra è ottimo; ivi anche si trova il bdellio e la pietra onice.
13 The second river is named the Gihon, and this winds all through the land of Cush.	13 Il fiume secondo ha nome Geon; è quello che gira attorno a tutta la regione d'Etiopia.
14 The third river is named the Tigris, and this flows to the east of Ashur. The fourth river is theEuphrates.	14 Il nome poi del terzo fiume è Tigri, che si dirige verso gli Assiri. Il quarto fiume poi è l'Eufrate.
15 Yahweh God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.	15 Il Signore Dio adunque prese l'uomo, e lo collocò nel paradiso di delizia, acciò lo lavorasse e lo custodisse,
16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this command, 'You are free to eat of al the trees in the garden.	16 e gli fece un comando, dicendo: «Mangia [del frutto] di qualunque albero del paradiso.
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for, the day you eat of that, youare doomed to die.'	17 Ma dell'albero della scienza del bene e del male, non mangiare; perché in qualsiasi giorno tu ne avrai mangiato, di morte morrai».
18 Yahweh God said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone. I shal make him a helper.'	18 Disse ancora il Signore Dio: «Non è bene che l'uomo sia solo; facciamogli un aiuto simile a lui».
19 So from the soil Yahweh God fashioned al the wild animals and al the birds of heaven. These hebrought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it.	19 Formati che ebbe il Signore Dio dalla terra tutti i volatili del cielo, li condusse ad Adamo, acciò vedesse come chiamarli; il nome infatti col quale Adamo chiamò ogni essere vivente, è il suo vero nome.
20 The man gave names to al the cattle, al the birds of heaven and all the wild animals. But no helpersuitable for the man was found for him.	20 E Adamo chiamò coi loro nomi tutti gli animali, e tutti i volatili del cielo, e tutte le bestie della terra. Ma per Adamo non si trovava un aiuto simile a lui.
21 Then, Yahweh God made the man fal into a deep sleep. And, while he was asleep, he took one of hisribs and closed the flesh up again forthwith.	21 Mandò dunque il Signore Dio ad Adamo un sonno profondo; ed essendosi egli addormentato, gli tolse una delle coste, e ne riempì il luogo con della carne.
22 Yahweh God fashioned the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.	22 E con la costa che aveva tolta ad Adamo, formò il Signore Dio una donna, e gliela presentò.
23 And the man said: This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh! She is to be cal edWoman, because she was taken from Man.	23 E disse Adamo: «Ecco, questo è un osso delle mie ossa, e carne della mia carne; questa sarà chiamata virago, perché è stata tratta dall'uomo.
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and they becomeone flesh.	24 Perciò l'uomo lascerà il padre e la madre, e si stringerà alla sua moglie, e saranno due in un corpo solo».
25 Now, both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other.	25 Ora, erano nudi ambedue, Adamo cioè e la sua moglie, e non ne arrossivano.
