Genesis 2

1 Thus heaven and earth were completed with al their array.	1 ויכלו השמים והארץ וכל צבאם
2 On the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing. He rested on the seventh dayafter al the work he had been doing.	2 ויכל אלהים ביום השביעי מלאכתו אשר עשה וישבת ביום השביעי מכל מלאכתו אשר עשה
3 God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he rested after al his work ofcreating.	3 ויברך אלהים את יום השביעי ויקדש אתו כי בו שבת מכל מלאכתו אשר ברא אלהים לעשות
4 Such was the story of heaven and earth as they were created. At the time when Yahweh God madeearth and heaven	4 אלה תולדות השמים והארץ בהבראם ביום עשות יהוה אלהים ארץ ושמים
5 there was as yet no wild bush on the earth nor had any wild plant yet sprung up, for Yahweh God hadnot sent rain on the earth, nor was there any man to til the soil.	5 וכל שיח השדה טרם יהיה בארץ וכל עשב השדה טרם יצמח כי לא המטיר יהוה אלהים על הארץ ואדם אין לעבד את האדמה
6 Instead, water flowed out of the ground and watered al the surface of the soil.	6 ואד יעלה מן הארץ והשקה את כל פני האדמה
7 Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, andman became a living being.	7 וייצר יהוה אלהים את האדם עפר מן האדמה ויפח באפיו נשמת חיים ויהי האדם לנפש חיה
8 Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the east, and there he put the man he hadfashioned.	8 ויטע יהוה אלהים גן בעדן מקדם וישם שם את האדם אשר יצר
9 From the soil, Yahweh God caused to grow every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat, withthe tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.	9 ויצמח יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל עץ נחמד למראה וטוב למאכל ועץ החיים בתוך הגן ועץ הדעת טוב ורע
10 A river flowed from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided to make four streams.	10 ונהר יצא מעדן להשקות את הגן ומשם יפרד והיה לארבעה ראשים
11 The first is named the Pishon, and this winds al through the land of Havilah where there is gold.	11 שם האחד פישון הוא הסבב את כל ארץ החוילה אשר שם הזהב
12 The gold of this country is pure; bdel ium and cornelian stone are found there.	12 וזהב הארץ ההוא טוב שם הבדלח ואבן השהם
13 The second river is named the Gihon, and this winds all through the land of Cush.	13 ושם הנהר השני גיחון הוא הסובב את כל ארץ כוש
14 The third river is named the Tigris, and this flows to the east of Ashur. The fourth river is theEuphrates.	14 ושם הנהר השלישי חדקל הוא ההלך קדמת אשור והנהר הרביעי הוא פרת
15 Yahweh God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.	15 ויקח יהוה אלהים את האדם וינחהו בגן עדן לעבדה ולשמרה
16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this command, 'You are free to eat of al the trees in the garden.	16 ויצו יהוה אלהים על האדם לאמר מכל עץ הגן אכל תאכל
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for, the day you eat of that, youare doomed to die.'	17 ומעץ הדעת טוב ורע לא תאכל ממנו כי ביום אכלך ממנו מות תמות
18 Yahweh God said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone. I shal make him a helper.'	18 ויאמר יהוה אלהים לא טוב היות האדם לבדו אעשה לו עזר כנגדו
19 So from the soil Yahweh God fashioned al the wild animals and al the birds of heaven. These hebrought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it.	19 ויצר יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל חית השדה ואת כל עוף השמים ויבא אל האדם לראות מה יקרא לו וכל אשר יקרא לו האדם נפש חיה הוא שמו
20 The man gave names to al the cattle, al the birds of heaven and all the wild animals. But no helpersuitable for the man was found for him.	20 ויקרא האדם שמות לכל הבהמה ולעוף השמים ולכל חית השדה ולאדם לא מצא עזר כנגדו
21 Then, Yahweh God made the man fal into a deep sleep. And, while he was asleep, he took one of hisribs and closed the flesh up again forthwith.	21 ויפל יהוה אלהים תרדמה על האדם ויישן ויקח אחת מצלעתיו ויסגר בשר תחתנה
22 Yahweh God fashioned the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.	22 ויבן יהוה אלהים את הצלע אשר לקח מן האדם לאשה ויבאה אל האדם
23 And the man said: This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh! She is to be cal edWoman, because she was taken from Man.	23 ויאמר האדם זאת הפעם עצם מעצמי ובשר מבשרי לזאת יקרא אשה כי מאיש לקחה זאת
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and they becomeone flesh.	24 על כן יעזב איש את אביו ואת אמו ודבק באשתו והיו לבשר אחד
25 Now, both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other.	25 ויהיו שניהם ערומים האדם ואשתו ולא יתבששו
