Genesis 2

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Thus heaven and earth were completed with al their array.	1 Así fueron terminados el cielo y la tierra,, y todos los seres que hay en ellos.
2 On the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing. He rested on the seventh dayafter al the work he had been doing.	2 El séptimo día, Dios concluyó la obra que había hecho, y cesó de hacer la obra que había emprendido.
3 God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he rested after al his work ofcreating.	3 Dios bendijo el séptimo día y lo consagró, porque en él cesó de hacer la obra que había creado.
4 Such was the story of heaven and earth as they were created. At the time when Yahweh God madeearth and heaven	4 Este fue el origen del cielo y de la tierra cuando fueron creados.
5 there was as yet no wild bush on the earth nor had any wild plant yet sprung up, for Yahweh God hadnot sent rain on the earth, nor was there any man to til the soil.	5 aún no había ningún arbusto del campo sobre la tierra ni había brotado ninguna hierba, porque el Señor Dios no había hecho llover sobre la tierra. Tampoco había ningún hombre para cultivar el suelo,
6 Instead, water flowed out of the ground and watered al the surface of the soil.	6 pero un manantial surgía de la tierra y regaba toda la superficie del suelo.
7 Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, andman became a living being.	7 Entonces el Señor Dios modeló al hombre con arcilla del suelo y sopló en su nariz un aliento de vida. Así el hombre se convirtió en un ser viviente.
8 Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the east, and there he put the man he hadfashioned.	8 El Señor Dios plantó un jardín en Edén, al oriente, y puso allí al hombre que había formado.
9 From the soil, Yahweh God caused to grow every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat, withthe tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.	9 Y el Señor Dios hizo brotar del suelo toda clase de árboles, que eran atrayentes para la vista y apetitosos para comer; hizo brotar el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal.
10 A river flowed from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided to make four streams.	10 De Edén nace un río que riega el jardín, y desde allí se divide en cuatro brazos.
11 The first is named the Pishon, and this winds al through the land of Havilah where there is gold.	11 El primero se llama Pisón: es el que recorre toda la región de Javilá, donde hay oro.
12 The gold of this country is pure; bdel ium and cornelian stone are found there.	12 El oro de esa región es excelente, y en ella hay también bedelio y lapislázuli.
13 The second river is named the Gihon, and this winds all through the land of Cush.	13 El segundo río se llama Guijón: es el que recorre toda la tierra de Cus.
14 The third river is named the Tigris, and this flows to the east of Ashur. The fourth river is theEuphrates.	14 El tercero se llama Tigris: es el que pasa al este de Asur. El cuarto es el Eufrates.
15 Yahweh God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.	15 El Señor Dios tomó al hombre y lo puso en el jardín de Edén, para que lo cultivara y lo cuidara.
16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this command, 'You are free to eat of al the trees in the garden.	16 Y le dio esta orden: «Puedes comer de todos los árboles que hay en el jardín,
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for, the day you eat of that, youare doomed to die.'	17 exceptuando únicamente el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal. De él no deberás comer, porque el día que lo hagas quedarás sujeto a la muerte».
18 Yahweh God said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone. I shal make him a helper.'	18 Después dijo el Señor Dios: «No conviene que el hombre esté solo. Voy a hacerle una ayuda adecuada».
19 So from the soil Yahweh God fashioned al the wild animals and al the birds of heaven. These hebrought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it.	19 Entonces el Señor Dios modeló con arcilla del suelo a todos los animales de campo y a todos los pájaros del cielo, y los presentó al hombre para ver qué nombre les pondría. Porque cada ser viviente debía tener el nombre que le pusiera el hombre.
20 The man gave names to al the cattle, al the birds of heaven and all the wild animals. But no helpersuitable for the man was found for him.	20 El hombre puso un nombre a todos los animales domésticos, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los animales del campo; pero entre ellos no encontró la ayuda adecuada.
21 Then, Yahweh God made the man fal into a deep sleep. And, while he was asleep, he took one of hisribs and closed the flesh up again forthwith.	21 Entonces el Señor Dios hizo caer sobre el hombre un profundo sueño, y cuando este se durmió, tomó una de sus costillas y cerró con carne el lugar vacío.
22 Yahweh God fashioned the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.	22 Luego, con la costilla que había sacado del hombre, el Señor Dios formó una mujer y se la presentó al hombre.
23 And the man said: This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh! She is to be cal edWoman, because she was taken from Man.	23 El hombre exclamó: «¡Esta sí que es hueso de mis huesos y carne de mi carne! Se llamará Mujer, porque ha sido sacada del hombre».
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and they becomeone flesh.	24 Por eso el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre y se une a su mujer, y los dos llegan a ser una sola carne.
25 Now, both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other.	25 Los dos, el hombre y la mujer, estaban desnudos, pero no sentían vergüenza.
