Genesis 13

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.	1 Dall'Egitto Abram risalì verso il Negheb con la moglie e tutto il suo avere. Lot era con lui.
2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.	2 Abram era molto ricco di bestiame, di argento e di oro.
3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,	3 Dal Negheb ritornò a tappe fino a Betel, fino al luogo dov'era già prima la sua tenda, tra Betel e Ai,
4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.	4 al luogo dell'altare che egli aveva eretto prima; ivi Abram invocò il nome del Signore.
5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.	5 Anche Lot, che viaggiava con Abram, possedeva greggi, armenti e attendamenti,
6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.	6 e il territorio non bastava ad una loro abitazione comune, perché avevano beni troppo grandi per poter abitare insieme.
7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)	7 Nacque perciò una lite tra i pastori del bestiame di Abram e i pastori del bestiame di Lot, mentre i Cananei e i Perizziti abitavano nel paese.
8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.	8 Abram disse allora a Lot: "Deh, non ci sia discordia tra me e te, tra i miei pastori e i tuoi, perché noi siamo fratelli!
9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'	9 Non sta forse davanti a te tutto il paese? Sepàrati da me. Se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò verso destra, ma se vai a destra, me ne andrò verso sinistra".
10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.	10 Allora Lot alzò gli occhi ed osservò tutta la valle del Giordano, perché era tutta irrigata -- prima che il Signore distruggesse Sòdoma e Gomorra -- come il giardino del Signore, come il paese d'Egitto, fin verso Zoar.
11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:	11 E Lot scelse per sé tutta la valle del Giordano e trasportò le tende verso oriente. Così si separarono l'uno dall'altro.
12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.	12 Abram risiedette nel paese di Canaan e Lot risiedette nelle città della valle e acquistò il diritto di pascolare vicino a Sòdoma,
13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.	13 nonostante che la gente di Sòdoma fosse molto cattiva e peccatrice.
14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,	14 Il Signore disse ad Abram, dopo che Lot si fu separato da lui: "Alza gli occhi, e dal luogo dove stai, spingi lo sguardo verso settentrione e mezzogiorno, verso oriente ed occidente.
15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.	15 Tutto il paese che tu vedi, io lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza, per sempre.
16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!	16 Renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra; se qualcuno può contare il pulviscolo della terra, anche i tuoi discendenti potrà contare!
17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'	17 Alzati, percorri il paese in lungo e in largo, perché io lo darò a te!".
18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.	18 Poi Abram acquistò il diritto di pascolare e di andarsi a stabilire alla Quercia di Mamre, che è ad Ebron, e vi costruì un altare al Signore.
