Genesis 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.	1 De Egipto subió Abram al Négueb, junto con su mujer y todo lo suyo, y acompañado de Lot.
2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.	2 Abram era muy rico en ganado, plata y oro.
3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,	3 Caminando de acampada en acampada se dirigió desde el Négueb hasta Betel, hasta el lugar donde estuvo su tienda entre Betel y Ay,
4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.	4 el lugar donde había invocado Abram el nombre de Yahveh.
5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.	5 También Lot, que iba con Abram, tenía ovejas, vacadas y tiendas.
6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.	6 Ya la tierra no les permitía vivir juntos, porque su hacienda se había multiplicado, de modo que no podían vivir juntos.
7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)	7 Hubo riña entre los pastores del ganado de Abram y los del ganado de Lot. (Además los cananeos y los perizitas habitaban por entonces en el país.)
8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.	8 Dijo, pues, Abram a Lot: «Ea, no haya disputas entre nosotros ni entre mis pastores y tus pastores, pues somos hermanos.
9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'	9 ¿No tienes todo el país por delante? Pues bien, apártate de mi lado. Si tomas por la izquierda, yo iré por la derecha; y si tú por la derecha, yo por la izquierda.»
10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.	10 Lot levantó los ojos y vio toda la vega del Jordán, toda ella de regadío - eran antes de destruir Yahveh a Sodoma y Gomorra - como el jardín de Yahveh, como Egipto, hasta llegar a Soar.
11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:	11 Eligió, pues, Lot para sí toda la vega del Jordán, y se trasladó al oriente; así se apartaron el uno del otro.
12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.	12 Abram se estableció en Canaán y Lot en las ciudades de la vega, donde plantó sus tiendas hasta Sodoma.
13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.	13 Los habitantes de Sodoma eran muy malos y pecadores contra Yahveh.
14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,	14 Dijo Yahveh a Abram, después que Lot se separó de él: «Alza tus ojos y mira desde el lugar en donde estás hacia el norte, el mediodía, el oriente y el poniente.
15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.	15 Pues bien, toda la tierra que ves te la daré a ti ya tu descendencia por siempre.
16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!	16 Haré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra: tal que si alguien puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también podrá contar tu descendencia.
17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'	17 Levántate, recorre el país a lo largo y a lo ancho, porque a ti te lo he de dar.»
18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.	18 Y Abram vino a establecerse con sus tiendas junto a la encina de Mambré, que está en Hebrón, y edificó allí un altar a Yahveh.
