Genesis 13

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.	1 Abrão voltou do Egito para Negeb com sua mulher e tudo o que lhe pertencia. Lot o acompanhava.
2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.	2 Abrão era muito rico em rebanhos, prata e ouro.
3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,	3 Ele foi de acampamento em acampamento de Negeb até Betel, ao lugar onde já uma vez armara sua tenda, entre Betel e Hai,
4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.	4 no lugar onde se encontrava o altar que havia edificado antes. Ali invocou o nome do Senhor.
5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.	5 Lot, que acompanhava Abrão, possuía também ovelhas, bois e tendas,
6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.	6 e a região não lhes bastava para aí se estabelecerem juntos.
7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)	7 Por isso houve uma contenda entre os pastores dos rebanhos de Abrão e os dos rebanhos de Lot. Os cananeus e os ferezeus habitavam então naquela terra.
8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.	8 Abrão disse a Lot: "Rogo-te que não haja discórdia entre mim e ti, nem entre nossos pastores, pois somos irmãos.
9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'	9 Eis aí toda a terra diante de ti; separemo-nos. Se fores para a esquerda, eu irei para a direita; se fores para a direita, eu irei para esquerda."
10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.	10 Lot, levantando os olhos, viu que a toda a planície de Jordão era regada de água {o Senhor não tinha ainda destruído Sodoma e Gomorra} como o jardim do Senhor, como a terra do Egito ao lado de Tsoar.
11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:	11 Lot escolheu toda a planície do Jordão e foi para o oriente. Foi assim que se separam um do outro.
12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.	12 Abrão fixou-se na terra de Canaã, e Lot nas cidades da planície, onde levantou suas tendas até Sodoma.
13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.	13 Ora, os habitantes de Sodoma eram perversos, e grandes pecadores diante do Senhor.
14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,	14 O Senhor disse a Abrão depois que Lot o deixou: "Levanta os olhos, e do lugar onde estás, olha para o norte e para o sul, para o oriente e para o ocidente.
15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.	15 Toda a terra que vês, eu a darei a ti e aos teus descendentes para sempre.
16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!	16 Tornarei tua posteridade tão numerosa como o pó da terra: se alguém puder contar os grãos do pó da terra, então poderá contar a tua posteridade.
17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'	17 Levanta-te, percorre a terra em toda a sua extensão, porque eu te hei de dar."
18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.	18 Abrão levantou as suas tendas e veio fixar-se no vale dos carvalhos de Mambré, que estão em Hebron; e ali edificou um altar ao Senhor.
