1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.	1 Uscì adunque Abramo di Egitto con la sua moglie, e con tutto il suo, e insieme con lui Lot, andando verso il mezzodì.
2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.	2 Ed egli era molto ricco di oro e d'argento.
3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,	3 E tornò per la strada, per cui era andato, da mezzodì verso Bethel fino al luogo, dove prima avea piantato il padiglione tra Bethel, e Hai:
4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.	4 Nel luogo dove avea già fatto l'altare, e ivi invocò il nome del Signore.
5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.	5 Ma anche Lot, che era con Abramo, avea greggi di pecore, e armenti, e tende.
6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.	6 E la terra non potea capirli, abitando eglino insieme: perocché aveano molte facoltà, e non potevano stare in un medesimo luogo.
7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)	7 Per la qual cosa ne nacque anche rissa tra' pastori de' greggi d'Abramo, e quei di Lot. E in quel tempo abitavano in quella terra il Cananeo, e il Ferezeo.
8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.	8 Disse adunque Abramo a Lot: Di grazia non nasca altercazione tra me, e te, e tra' miei pastori, e i tuoi pastori: perocché noi siam fratelli.
9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'	9 Ecco dinanzi a te tutta questa terra: allontanati, ti prego, da me: se tu andrai a sinistra, io terrò a destra; se tu sceglierai a destra, io andrò a sinistra.
10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.	10 Lot adunque alzati gli occhi, vide tutta la regione intorno al Giordano, per dove si va a Segor, la quale era tutta inaffiata, come il paradiso del Signore, e come l'Egitto prima che il Signore smantellasse Sodoma e Gomorra.
11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:	11 E Lot si elesse il paese intorno al Giordano, e si ritirò dall'oriente: e si separarono l'uno dall'altro.
12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.	12 Abramo abitò nella terra di Chanaan: e Lot stava per le città, che erano intorno al Giordano, e pose stanza in Sodoma.
13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.	13 Ma gli uomini di Sodoma erano pessimi, e formisura peccatori dinanzi a Dio.
14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,	14 E il Signore disse ad Abramo, dopo che Lot fu separato da lui: Alza gli occhi tuoi, e mira dal luogo dove sei ora, a settentrione, a mezzodì, a levante, e all'occidente.
15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.	15 Tutta la terra, che tu vedi, la darò a te, e a' tuoi posteri fino in eterno.
16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!	16 E moltiplicherò la tua stirpe, come la polvere della terra: se alcuno degli uomini può contare i granelli della polvere della terra, potrà anche contare i tuoi posteri.
17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'	17 Levati su, e scorri la terra, quant'ella è lunga, e quanto è larga: perocché a te io la darò.
18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.	18 Abramo adunque mosse il suo padiglione, e andò ad abitare presso la valle di Mambre, che è in Hebron: ed ivi edificò un altare al Signore.
