Genesis 13

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.	1 Desde Egipto, Abram subió al Négueb, llevando consigo a su esposa y todos sus bienes. También Lot iba con él.
2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.	2 Abram tenía muchas riquezas en ganado, plata y oro.
3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,	3 Después siguió avanzando por etapas desde el Négueb hasta Betel, hasta el lugar donde había acampado al comienzo, entre Betel y Ai,
4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.	4 donde estaba el altar que había erigido la primera vez. Allí Abram invocó el nombre del Señor.
5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.	5 Lot, que acompañaba a Abram, también tenía ovejas, vacas y carpas.
6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.	6 Y como los dos tenían demasiadas riquezas, no había espacio suficiente para que pudieran habitar juntos.
7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)	7 Por eso, se produjo un altercado entre los pastores de Abram y los de Lot. En ese tiempo, los cananeos y los perizitas ocupaban el país.
8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.	8 Abram dijo a Lot: «No quiero que haya altercados entre nosotros dos, ni tampoco entre sus pastores y los míos, porque somos hermanos.
9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'	9 ¿No tienes todo el país por delante? Sepárate de mí: si tú vas hacia la izquierda, yo iré hacia la derecha, y si tú vas hacia la derecha, yo iré hacia la izquierda».
10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.	10 Lot dirigió una mirada a su alrededor, y vio que toda la región baja del Jordán, hasta llegar a Soar, estaba tan bien regada como el Jardín del Señor o como la tierra de Egipto. Esto era antes que el Señor destruyera a Sodoma y Gomorra.
11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:	11 Entonces Lot eligió para sí toda la región baja del Jordán y se dirigió hacia el este. Así se separaron el uno del otro:
12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.	12 Abram permaneció en Canaán, mientras que Lot se estableció entre las ciudades de la región baja, poniendo su campamento cerca de Sodoma.
13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.	13 Pero los habitantes de Sodoma eran perversos y pecaban gravemente contra el Señor.
14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,	14 El Señor dijo a Abram, después que Lot se separó de él: «Levanta los ojos, y desde el lugar donde éstas, mira hacia el norte y el sur, hacia el este y el oeste,
15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.	15 porque toda la tierra que alcances a ver, te la daré a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre.
16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!	16 Yo haré que tu descendencia sea numerosa como el polvo de la tierra. Si alguien puede contar los granos de polvo, también podrá contar tu descendencia.
17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'	17 Ahora recorre el país a lo largo y a lo ancho, porque yo te lo daré».
18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.	18 Entonces Abram trasladó su campamento y fue a establecerse junto al encinar de Mamré, que está en Hebrón. Allí erigió un altar al Señor.
