NEW AMERICAN BIBLE | JERUSALEM |
---|---|
As for yourself, you must say what is consistent with sound doctrine, namely, | 1 Pour toi, enseigne ce qui est conforme à la saine doctrine. |
that older men should be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and endurance. |
Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to drink, teaching what is good, | 3 Que pareillement les femmes âgées aient le comportement qui sied à des saintes: ni médisantes, niadonnées au vin, mais de bon conseil; |
so that they may train younger women to love their husbands and children, | 4 ainsi elles apprendront aux jeunes femmes à aimer leur mari et leurs enfants, |
to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers, under the control of their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited. |
Urge the younger men, similarly, to control themselves, | 6 Exhorte également les jeunes gens à garder en tout la pondération, |
showing yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect, with integrity in your teaching, dignity, | 7 offrant en ta personne un exemple de bonne conduite: pureté de doctrine, dignité, |
and sound speech that cannot be criticized, so that the opponent will be put to shame without anything bad to say about us. |
Slaves are to be under the control of their masters in all respects, giving them satisfaction, not talking back to them | 9 Que les esclaves soient soumis en tout à leurs maîtres, cherchant à leur donner satisfaction, évitant deles contredire, |
or stealing from them, but exhibiting complete good faith, so as to adorn the doctrine of God our savior in every way. |
For the grace of God has appeared, saving all | 11 Car la grâce de Dieu, source de salut pour tous les hommes, s'est manifestée, |
and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age, | 12 nous enseignant à renoncer à l'impiété et aux convoitises de ce monde, pour vivre en ce siècle présentdans la réserve, la justice et la piété, |
as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of the great God and of our savior Jesus Christ, | 13 attendant la bienheureuse espérance et l'Apparition de la gloire de notre grand Dieu et Sauveur, leChrist Jésus |
who gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his own, eager to do what is good. |
Say these things. Exhort and correct with all authority. Let no one look down on you. |
